The Beginning That's More Of An Introduction

Caroline Gizzard knew many people, but she only considered two of them to be her actual friends.
First was Arethera DeAngelo, who she liked to call Deedee. Deedee is your typical best friend character. Brave and funny, but not cool enough to take away from the spotlight of the main character. Deedee was relatively average looking, she had milk chocolate coloured hair and happy blue eyes that sparkled when she smiled. She also gave the best hugs because she had a larger body type, giving her super hugging abilities.
Caroline's other true friend was Killian Maltzer-Guy, and he was the Hermione Granger of their trio. Always studious, always reading. He had the answer to any problem they had, it was almost like a superpower. Killian had wavy sandy-blonde hair that he often had to blow out of his face, he claims to always be too busy to get it cut well so he does it himself. He also wore thin glasses with no rims, and Caroline always thought it was the coolest thing, it almost looked like lenses were just suspended in front of his hazel eyes.

These three always walked through the halls of the high school together and always ate together, though sometimes Killian was late because he got distracted in the library. Many times it was just Caroline and Deedee, and neither of them minded at all.

"Hey Carol?" Deedee had asked once.

"Please, don't call me Carol, you have no idea what music plays when people call me that." Caroline had replied. Someone had called her Carol once, the universe had bombarded her with Christmas carols in various languages for several days.

"Sorry, Caroline then," Deedee continued. "What's it like being a main character?"

"Certainly not paradise, more like a personal and public hell that you can't escape."

"So, you don't enjoy it? All the fame?"

"Not a chance, I used to think it was cool, then I got my soundtrack and everything got bad from there. I've memorized so many songs..."

That had been only one time Deedee had asked Caroline what it was like, she would often forget what she had said, and Caroline would come up with some new reason she hated being a main character, but she never lied about it, it really was like hell of Earth. Killian never asked her what it was like, he had read all the autobiographies of previous main characters and he pretty much understood that there were two types of these people. The first type of main character was the MC that enjoyed the fame and became actors or athletes or rock stars. The second type was Caroline's type, the constant attention and theme music had been slowly driving her mad.

All Caroline wanted was a normal life, she wouldn't even mind being a background character for once. Those are the people in the background used to further the main character's story. Grocery store clerks were the most common form of a background character, and when they became self aware of that fact, they often ended up going insane and running through the streets wearing a suit made from american cheese slices. Caroline had witnessed that more than once. She just wished for once that her life wasn't like a sitcom, and she didn't have to hear the same annoying song every morning when she woke up. She sometimes wondered if her life was actually a TV show, and some aliens or higher beings were watching her and her friends right now.

"Earth to Caroline!" A voice interrupted her thoughts and as she jerked up and looked wide eyed at the person speaking, a classic laugh track sounded in the back of her mind. "Caroline, you okay?"

"Yeah," She replied and looked up to the source of her new distraction. It was Diego Karls, one of the many kids at the orphanage Caroline lived at. "What's up?" She didn't know Diego that well, but from when she first met him, she could tell he was a sincere guy, he wouldn't use her for fame.

"There is someone here to talk to you." He nodded towards the doorway, sure enough, there was someone standing there, and they looked angry.
