Not Quite A Climax, But could Be One If It Happened Later On

Caroline hissed as she ran after Stephen as You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi began blasting in her ears, she had hoped that part of her past had gone away forever. Apparently whatever audience she was being watched by enjoyed the drama of her seeing her ex after a full year of not communicating. Caroline thought on this development for a moment as she ran, why did Stephen want to see her after she supposedly cheated on him? Did he actually miss her? Then realization shocked her so much she physically stopped. She knew she didn't cheat on Stephen, she had loved him with all of her heart, but Stephen was also a main character, they were the two main characters in each other's stories, like a crossover. Did his story force him to break up with her? But what reason would the universe have for him to do so?

Caroline kept thinking about the unusual black streak that now tainted her bright blue ponytail. Was that what happened when Main Characters became Side Characters? She had never heard of that happening, it was never on the news or in any of the books she had read, so what was it?

When she reached Stephen's house, Caroline didn't stop knocking on the door for an hour. Eventually she gave up, but she didn't leave, she simply sat on the porch so he couldn't leave. She felt clingy, like the crazy ex-girlfriend that couldn't let go, and maybe that was her new role in Stephen's story. But that wouldn't stop her, she was determined to not let him leave.

After a few hours, Stephen opened the front door and sighed with annoyance when he saw her sitting there, staring up at him. Caroline hopped up and stared him dead in the eyes.

"Look, explain this." She held up the black section for him to see. He rolled his eyes.

"Oh no, a bad hair day, I'm mortified."

"No, this is because of you, when we broke up something felt off, I had this strange feeling, and now that you came to where I live and confronted me, this happened. Don't you see? I know the rest of your family has black hair, that's why you dye it to fit in, but didn't something seem off when you broke up with me? You said you loved me the day before, then suddenly you believed I had hurt you."

"You're crazy..." Was all Stephen could muster. He could see where she was going with this.

"Don't you get it? I've become a Supporting Character in your story!"

Stephen froze, that was not what he was expecting her to say. He assumed she was playing her crazy ex role well, but she looked dead serious. He had never heard of a Main Character becoming a Side Character, it was then he felt a tingle on his own scalp. He watched as Caroline's eyes widened. He took out his phone and looked at himself in the camera. He felt sick. A section of his shaggy purple hair had turned blonde, Caroline's mother's natural hair colour. It was only visible at the root, as the black dye covered it up, but it was still very much there. He had become a Side Character in Caroline's story. This was bad for both of them. Generally there was only one Main Character per story, it was rare for two Main Characters to be brought together for a crossover, but neither of them had heard of something like this.

Now imagine something with me for a moment, how would you feel? You're whole life you've shyed from the spotlight, constant attention driving you completely bonkers. Now, out of nowhere, the world seemed to be collapsing around you, like the producers of your life decided your ratings were too low and were preparing to dispose of you.

How would you feel?

Caroline was mortified. She hated being in the spotlight, expected to do great things with her life. Now, everything she knew was falling down. It wasn't a comfortable life, but it had been all she'd ever known.

Stephen, now Stephen was acting the exact opposite. Not only was he not scared, he was rather excited. He had been waiting for something to happen so he could vanish from the spotlight forever. He had waited for so long, if only it didn't kill him to see Caroline so distraught. He knew their romance had been fan service, but he had felt something. Something that had confused him at first, but after he was forced to break up with Caroline, it came crashing down on him.

Neither of them really showed a reaction, everything was changing, yet they both remained silent. Caroline out of fear, Stephen out of worry for Caroline. They had been standing in silence for just a moment before a familiar song started to play in both their heads.

Children behave!
That's what they say when we're together...
And watched how you play-

Stephen rubbed his temples, he really hated this "goddess" who was known to many as Tiffany. Just Tiffany, not even a last name, how pathetic.
