Chapter 26 (Going Out)
You listened to the fan whir, staring at the back of your eyelids. You had a good night's sleep, but you were still tired. You hadn't yet opened your eyes, so you didn't even know if it was morning. Mangle wasn't on your chest tonight-instead, she thought the carpet was comfy enough to sleep on. You turned your head and peeked your eyes open, only to see something staring back at you.
"Pay your bills," they quickly demanded-you could tell by the voice that it was Toy Freddy.
"Woah!" you yelped as you darted up, waking the others up. "How long have you been there?"
"All night. Pay your bills," he replied monotonously.
"What happened?" Mangle yawned as she climbed onto the bed.
"Excuse me, only I can watch her while she sleeps," Toy Bonnie butted in.
"Nobody gets to watch me while I sleep, that's creepy. Why, though! Why were you watching me?" you wondered.
"To make sure you paid your bills. I like this place, and I don't want to have to move again. Now, go pay your bills," Toy Freddy replied.
"Gee-whiz." You sighed. "At least let me go to the bathroom first."
"Then pay your bills," Toy Freddy insisted.
"Okay! I get it," you groaned, tossing the covers off yourself.
"Good."
You glanced over at your alarm clock as you pushed yourself out of bed. "Six o'clock! It's too early," you whined as you rubbed your eyes.
"It's never too early to do what needs to be done," Toy Freddy added as you snatched your phone off the dresser.
" 'It's never too early to do what needs to be done,' " you mocked him as you walked out of the room.
"Very mature!" Toy Freddy called after you.
You reached for the washcloth, your eyes closed as you tried to avoid getting water in your eyes. You dried off your face, and some hair that got wet. You quickly checked your breath, making sure it didn't reek as much as it did when you first woke up. You flicked off the lights as you opened the door.
"Pay your bills," Toy Freddy greeted you rather grumpily.
"Screw off, Toy Freddy," you growled.
"Language!" Toy Bonnie barked from the living room.
Toy Freddy followed close behind you as you walked down the hall. His glare bored into the back of your head. You looked back to scorn at him. As you passed the archway, out of the corner of your eye, you saw Toy Bonnie jump at you from the arm chair. You caught him instinctively, and let out a sigh of relief.
"What do you have to do first?" Mangle wondered.
"I have to text the landlord," you murmured a reply as you plopped on the couch beside her, Toy Chica, and Balloon Boy.
You set Toy Bonnie in your lap as you grabbed your phone from your pocket. Toy Freddy climbed onto the couch on the other side of you as you unlocked your phone. You opened the messaging app and pulled up yours and the landlord's conversations. You quickly looked over the last messages, and thought out a reply. You mumbled your reply as you typed it out, and then when you were done, you sent it.
I'm back. Sorry I didn't tell you anything about where I went, I was really busy, and I had forgotten. It wasn't really planned, so there was no way to warn you beforehand. I'm currently starting on catching up on the payments.
"That should be good," you muttered.
"What now?" Toy Freddy asked.
"Well, I didn't see any letters at the door, or on any of the counters. Either the landlord picked them up when he came by, or they're at the post office. But, I don't think the landlord would take them if he wanted me to see them," you mused.
"So, what does that mean?" Toy Bonnie babbled.
"I have to go out," you announced, slapping your knees as you stood up.
"You do?" Mangle wondered.
"Yeah," you sighed, running a hand through your hair. "I'll need to buy groceries while I'm out. You guys wanna come with me?"
"YES!" Toy Chica shrieked.
"Sh!" you hissed.
"What?" she whispered as she shrunk.
"You gotta be quiet. It's seven o'clock in the morning, and there are still people sleeping," you told her.
"Sorry. Do I still get to go?" Toy Chica mumbled.
"Well, yeah. I'm not gonna make you stay here just because you didn't know to be quiet," you assured her, chuckling.
"Thank you!" she cheered quietly.
"I just gotta throw all the bad food out, first," you said.
"Alright, that should be all. I don't know how I didn't realize earlier how bad that fridge stank," you announced.
"Are we going, now?" Toy Chica asked excitedly.
"Well, you guys can't be seen as animals," you mused, thinking of a solution.
"You can use your backpack," Mangle suggested.
"Toy Freddy can't fit in it, and if I take it in the store, there's a possibility that someone would want to check it," you thought aloud.
"What about Balloon Boy? Isn't he too big, too?" Toy Bonnie pointed out.
"Yeah, but he's a human baby. I can just carry him around," you replied.
"You can carry us around in your pocket, like you did with Toy Bonnie at that gas station!" Toy Chica blurted.
"Yeah, I could, but Mangle wouldn't be able to fit in my pocket. Her and Toy Freddy can either turn into those wisps, or go into their plushies. Balloon Boy can carry them in their plushie bodies! Yeah! Okay, I'll go get everything ready."
The rest followed you as you walked into the hallway. You pushed into your room, and walked over to your closet. You took a hoodie out of your suitcase and slipped it on. The plushies were in there as well, so you took Toy Freddy's and Mangle's out.
"I think I'll just change into a wisp," Toy Freddy mentioned.
"Oh? Okay, I'll just put yours back," you muttered as you tossed his plushie back in the suitcase.
"Hey! Be careful with me," Toy Freddy grumbled.
"That's not you," you chortled as you looked back at him.
"It- It was me at some point," he nagged.
"It's not anymore," you sneered.
You rolled your eyes as you kicked the suitcase back in the closet and shut the door. You tossed Mangle's plush on the floor in front of her. Mangle widened her eyes as she stared at "herself." She looked up and glared at you, furrowing her eyebrows.
"Alright, you two, get in there," you said, kneeling down and opening your hoodie pocket.
"Yay! We're going on a quest!" Toy Chica cheered as she hopped in your pocket.
Toy Bonnie followed in after her, and you stood up. You chuckled when they poked their heads out of both sides. Mangle's plush waddled over to you as Toy Freddy disappeared from sight. You picked Mangle up and handed her over to Balloon Boy. He pulled her to his chest, and Mangle looked up at you.
"Alright," you huffed as you lifted Balloon Boy and cradled him on your hip.
You paused as you stared at him. He looked up at you, and then to Mangle. Mangle shrugged, and he looked back up at you. Your jaw dropped a bit, and Balloon Boy chuckled nervously.
"You can be like my child," you whispered, and he tilted his head.
"What?" Mangle wondered.
"You're my little boy! I will protect you! I won't let anybody hurt you," you announced dramatically as you held him closer to you, and he giggled.
"You're crushing me," Mangle wheezed, and you loosened your grip.
"Oh, sorry. Alright, little one-and the rest of you-let's go!"
You walked out of your room and down the hall. You had no way to tell if Toy Freddy was following you, but you assumed he was. When you got into the living room, you sighed, realizing that you would have to put on your shoes. You walked over to the front door, and stepped into your sneakers, wiggling your feet into them. You opened the front door and stepped outside.
"Holy shit!" you blurted, immediately stepping back inside and shutting the door.
"You know, you don't have to use those naughty words," Toy Bonnie got after you.
"What is it?" Mangle asked, a bit of irritation in her voice as well.
"It's hot as hell," you gasped, fanning yourself with your hand.
"You can use other words," Toy Chica pointed out.
"Oh, sorry. It's as hot as Satan's buttcrack." The rest giggled, and you chuckled as you rolled your eyes. "How is it so hot? It's, like, January." You slid your phone out of your jeans pocket and checked the date. "May! How is it May?"
"What's wrong?" Toy Bonnie worried.
"Just last week it was Christmas! No, this can't be right. How could four months pass by without me knowing it? It's like a leap century! I missed Valentine's Day, Easter, April Fool's Day!" You waved your hand around as you spoke.
"We don't have time for this," Toy Freddy grumbled from behind you.
"No, this is really trippy. It's like, I traveled into the future," you babbled as you ran a hand through your hair.
"(Y/N), you can question your existence later. Right now we need to get going," Toy Freddy insisted.
"Ah, geez. Okay." You set Balloon Boy on the floor. "I can't go out in this hoodie, it's too hot for it," you muttered, and Toy Freddy groaned, before disappearing.
"Then, what are you gonna do?" Toy Bonnie wondered as you took him and Toy Chica out of your hoodie pocket.
"We'll still get to go, right?" Toy Chica mumbled.
"Yeah, I'll just have to take my bag," you replied, pulling your hoodie over your head.
"But what about the problem with someone checking it?" Mangle pointed out.
"Well, if someone does, Toy Chica and Toy Bonnie can just change into wisps, so they don't see them," you suggested.
You sighed as you walked back through the hallway and into your room. The rest didn't take long to catch up with you. You opened your closet door and tossed your hoodie on the top shelf. You grabbed your bag from the suitcase, and hummed as you looked around.
"What?" Toy Bonnie wondered.
"I'm looking for some things to put in here," you mused.
"Us?" Had it not been for his tone, you would've thought he was being a smart-ass.
"Well, yeah. It'd just be suspicious if someone were to check it and there be nothing in it," you explained.
"What would you put in it?" Toy Chica asked.
"I don't know- Oh, pads! I can put a few of those in here," you thought aloud as you headed for the hallway.
"What are 'pads'?" Toy Bonnie wondered.
"They're-" You paused in the doorway, and looked back to see him and the rest tilting their heads. "You all are too innocent."
"Uh- That doesn't answer my question!" he called after you as you walked out.
"Alright, you two comfy in there?" you checked, looking back at your backpack.
"Yep!" Toy Chica gushed as she poked her head out.
"You guys gotta stay hidden, and don't make too much noise. Mangle, Balloon Boy, you good?"
"Yes," Mangle replied, and Balloon Boy chuckled as you wiggled your finger in his face.
"Toy Freddy-" You looked around. "I can only assume you're ready?"
You opened the door and stepped outside, shutting it a few seconds later. You walked to your car, squinting your eyes as you shielded Balloon Boy's. You opened the front door and was about to set Balloon Boy in the passenger seat.
"Holy- Wow, it's hot in there," you panted, leaning back to take a moment.
You shut the door and walked around the front of the car, you weren't going to leave Balloon Boy in there by himself-even if it was for just a few seconds, it was still a bit illegal. You hopped in the drivers seat, keeping the door open. The warmth of the chair under your legs gave you goosebumps. You started the car and turned the fans and air conditioner all the way up. It would take it a few minutes for it to start pushing out cool air.
"What are we-" Toy Freddy started from the back seat. "Oh dear goodness, goodbye."
You snickered as you rolled your eyes. Balloon Boy giggled with you, and you playfully ruffled his hat. You lifted him over and carefully set him in the passenger seat. You set your bag beside him, and shut your door. You reached over and pulled his seatbelt across him, buckling him up.
"I could totally be arrested for this. You all ready?"
"Do you have everything?" Mangle wondered as Toy Bonnie and Toy Chica climbed out of the bag.
"Yep. You guys, keys, phone- Oh, I forgot the money!" you blurted.
You quickly got out of the car and ran back to your apartment. Toy Bonnie sighed as he and the rest shared glances.
