Chapter 16 (Spirits)
"Did she say spirits?" Toy Chica worried.
"Yeah," Toy Bonnie replied as he hopped off the Show Stage.
"What did she mean when she said that if she separated us from our spirits, we 'may not come back'?" Toy Freddy demanded.
"I don't know, she just told me," Toy Bonnie defended himself as he walked up to the table.
"What all did she tell you?" Mangle wondered.
"She told me that our spirits have been contacting her, and telling her that she can separate them from us. That's all I know," Toy Bonnie explained as he took a seat.
"Our spir-spirits 'ave bee-een contactin' her?" Foxy said questioningly.
"They're talking about separating us? What does that mean?" Mangle asked.
"I don't know," Toy Bonnie muttered.
"Do you think they're plotting against us?" Toy Freddy thought aloud.
"I-I don't think (Y/N) would do anything to harm us," Toy Bonnie pointed out.
"But if our spirits had talked her into it?" Toy Freddy tried to convince him, and Toy Bonnie's ears twitched as he stared down at the table. ". . . I'm only thinking of possibilities."
"She did say something about not knowing if she wasn't supposed to tell me about them," Toy Bonnie mumbled.
". . . If she said she didn't know if she was supposed to tell you, then that means the spirits didn't tell her not to. Which means that, most likely, there wouldn't be anything bad to tell you," Toy Chica reasoned.
"What else did she say, Toy Bonnie?" Mangle asked him.
"Before she told me about the spirits, we were talking about why she would say things about why we couldn't be together, and she told me that she was trying to push her feelings away. I clearly remember what she said, because it confused me at first: 'I don't want to lose you by chance, but then again, I can't just not help those children,' " Toy Bonnie replied, and Toy Freddy's eyes widened.
"If the spirits appeared as children, and not something more sinister, do you think their intentions aren't actually bad?" Toy Freddy blurted.
"If she were to be 'helping' them, I wouldn't think their intentions would be bad," Toy Chica added.
"Maybe ye all are-are thinkin' too-oo much in-to this," Foxy said, and Balloon Boy laughed in agreement. "If our spirits s-said somethin' a-bout separatin' them fr-om us, that does-doesn't technic-ally mean th' beauty plans t' do-o anythin' about it-it; 'n even if sh-she did, I don't reck-eckon she would do anythin' t' hur-urt us. 'ave a wee-ee trust in th' lass. If, by-by chance, th' spirits do mea-ean harm, either, she would 'ave al-already done somethin' by-y n-now, told us earlier, or nah 'ave br-ought it up at all-all."
". . . Foxy's got a point. (Y/N)'s been with us for weeks, and we've told her all our secrets. She knows we trust her, and I don't think she's the type of person who would take advantage of someone's trust," Mangle pointed out.
"I know she trusts us. I mean, she kind of lives with us, and there have been plenty of times she's been vulnerable and we haven't done anything to hurt her," Toy Bonnie mentioned.
"I agree with you both, but I think it'd be safe to consider the possibilities; anticipate the outcomes," Toy Freddy said, looking at the rest for agreement.
". . . Should we tell Marionette?" Toy Chica mused.
"I-I don't think that would be wise," Mangle objected nervously.
"What if he does something to my boo?" Toy Bonnie grumbled.
"I mean, Marionette's been like this the longest; maybe he'll know what to do," Toy Chica reasoned.
"About what?" a voice asked.
The animatronics quickly looked over, to see Marionette standing at the edge of the table. They never knew how he was able to sneak up on them like that, considering their advanced abilities. Balloon Boy chuckled nervously, and Foxy put his hook on his shoulder comfortingly. Marionette looked around the table, waiting for a response.
"I assume you already know," Toy Freddy spoke up.
"I know only as much as you do; I overheard," Marionette replied.
"What should we do?" Toy Freddy wondered as the rest gave each other worried looks; Marionette was, to the animatronics, the one that knew about everything, so him not knowing about the spirits communicating with someone, was worrisome.
"Right now, the only one that can do anything, is Toy Bonnie," Marionette said.
"Me?" Toy Bonnie blurted.
"Yes, you are the closest to (Y/N). You need to ask her more about our spirits ; when they started to talk to her, if they still do, and how they do so. Just try to find everything you can about their communications," Marionette explained.
"What should the rest of us do?" Toy Freddy asked.
"There's not much you can do. Until we find out what our spirits' intentions are, we can't do anything but wait," Marionette muttered.
"What should we do in the meantime, then?" Mangle wondered.
"Maybe to be safe, the rest of you should just shut down for the night," Marionette mused.
"I'll be-e headin' back t' th' Par-arts 'n Service ca-cabin, then," Foxy announced as he stood up.
"Hello," Balloon Boy said as he looked up at Foxy.
"Don't w-worry lad, I'll see-see ye to-morrow night," Foxy assured him quietly; Balloon Boy watched him sadly, as he walked past the doorway and into the Main Hall.
"The rest of us will get into our places, leaving Toy Bonnie to talk to (Y/N)," Toy Freddy instructed as he stood up.
"Wait a minute!" Toy Bonnie uttered suddenly, and the animatronics looked over at him. "Is this kind of, all up to me? Like, the pressure is being put on me?"
"Someone else could do it, if you w-"
"I mean, this is kind of all up to me? I'm the only one that can do this?" Toy Bonnie said boastingly as he stood up.
"That's not-"
"Of course!" Toy Bonnie interrupted Marionette again, and he stared at him in annoyance. "I'll do what I can."
Toy Bonnie turned and proudly walked towards the Show Stage, hoping nobody ruined his moment. He jumped onto the stage and stood beside the hatch. As he opened it, he saluted to the rest, who mainly rolled their eyes, before descending and closing the door. He walked through the kitchen and pushed the swinging doors open. His ears were pointed straight up as he walked towards the couch confidently.
When Toy Bonnie got to the couch, he saw you lying, somewhat, under the covers. He carefully sat down on the coffee table, looking at how your legs poked out from under the blanket, and the way your hands were folded on your stomach; he thought you were beautiful. Toy Bonnie slid off the table and kneeled down in front of you. He gently brushed a piece of hair out of your face, and stopped to admire you for a second; his ears slowly fell over as he studied every detail of your face.
You took in a deep breath as you shifted some, and Toy Bonnie quickly moved his hand from you, freezing in place. When he was certain that you were still asleep, he relaxed as he leaned towards you some. There was no way he could disturb you, as you were in such a peaceful state; he would just have to wait until you woke up.
You slipped the Freddy mask off your head, setting it back into your lap. You pulled up the tablet and looked through the cameras, searching for Mangle. When you heard a radio-like sound, you quickly put the mask back on. You held your breath, waiting for Mangle to leave. When you heard low banging, and it went silent, you sighed. You pulled the mask off and looked at the tablet again.
You quickly rewound the music box, and scanned through the cameras; Toy Freddy was on the Show Stage, the old animatronics were in the Parts/Service Room, Mangle was hanging from the ceiling in Party Room 2, while Toy Chica was kneeled in front of the vent in Party Room 1, and Toy Bonnie was in the Right Air Vent. You heard laughter and a rumbling sound, and you looked up from the tablet. There didn't seem to be anything in the room with you, but you couldn't be sure. You grabbed the flashlight off the table and pointed it towards the right air vent, Toy Bonnie wasn't there yet. You looked over towards the left air vent, and Balloon Boy lay staring at you from inside. You quickly set the flashlight back on the table as you picked up the Freddy mask.
"Hello?" a little boy's voice yelled from behind you, startling you and causing you to drop the mask onto the floor; you froze for a second, before slowly turning your chair, to see five dark ghastly figures standing behind you.
"Uhm, hi there," you replied, staring at the figures with wide eyes.
"You can hear me?" one of the figures asked in relief, in the boy's voice.
"Yeah," you said hesitantly.
"Y-you need to do something before something happens to us," he replied in a spastic and nervous manner.
"What?" you worried as your heartbeat quickened and your body started to tingle.
"I don't think we should worry her like this. She may end up waking up before we can explain to her what's wrong," another boy said, trying to calm you and the other boy down.
"Wh-what's going on?" you uttered worryingly.
"We're the spirits you've been talking to," the boy spoke, and you raised an eyebrow as you looked them up and down.
"You guys seem to be different? And fewer?" you wondered as you relaxed some.
"Uhm, we don't really know how to do this like the others do," a girl replied bashfully.
"Maybe we should start with an explanation: us spirits have been using your dreams to talk with each other, when we're not talking to you that is. They usually help us new ones, to take our forms. When we all communicate with you, they somehow control your dream that way there are no disturbances," the boy explained; you heard laughter come from behind you, and you looked back to see Balloon Boy standing in the office. "Like that."
"Why are there fewer of you guys?" you wondered as you turned back towards them.
"U-us five are the spirits who possess th-the toy animatronics, we're kind of the, the 'new guys,' " the girl stuttered.
"A couple days ago, when we were with the rest, they were really mad; they seemed, almost, mean. One of them though, the one that possesses Marionette, told us that they were changing. He said that they'd been that way for long enough that their anger was starting to corrupt them. He told us that he wasn't like that yet, because he was able to control it. Last night, for some reason, we weren't able to contact them," the boy added as Balloon Boy continued to laugh.
"Hold on a second," you grumbled as you turned in your chair; you grabbed the flashlight off the desk and threw it at Balloon Boy, it bounced off his head, silencing him; you hesitantly turned back towards the spirits. "You were saying?"
"W-we don't know whether it's be-because they chose not to, or, or because they're not able to," the first boy stammered as, what you thought were tears, swelled up in his "eyes," causing another spirit to start to cry; you gulped as you watched them.
"We don't know h-how much longer we have," the girl replied as tears streamed down her face; the boy started to sob, and the girl and the other spirit hugged him, trying to comfort him.
"Wh-what can I do?" you asked, trying to keep yourself calm.
"I-I hate to ask you this, but we need you to separate us from the animatronics. Sooner than later," one of the boys said nervously, and you scratched the back of your neck.
"Please, help us," the other boy said between sobs, and you frowned as your eyes started to water.
"Mm- What's gonna happen to the animatronics?" you mumbled.
"We don't know," the boy revealed, and you took in a deep breath.
". . . I, I'll do what I can," you promised them, and they looked at each other, before they started to fade away.
You watched them disappear, the boy looked at you in despair as the others hugged each other behind him. You heard laughter start from behind you, again, and you quickly turned to glare at Balloon Boy. You heard tapping coming from the hallway, and you looked into the darkness. Foxy leaped from the shadows as he screeched, heading straight for you.
You jerked awake, pushing yourself up as you gasped. A hand was placed on your shoulder, and you looked over to see Toy Bonnie. You sighed, steadying your racing heart. Toy Bonnie kneeled down beside you as his ears fell over.
"Are you okay?" he worried.
"Yeah. Just a bad dream," you replied, and he slid his hand off your shoulder.
You tossed your blanket off yourself as you moved your legs off the edge of the couch. You leaned forward and pulled out your suitcase, sliding it between your feet. Toy Bonnie sat back on the coffee table as you grabbed your blanket and rolled it up. You stuffed it, along with your pillows, into the suitcase. You zipped it up and pushed it back under the couch; and then leaned back as you sighed.
". . . About last night," Toy Bonnie started, and you looked over at him.
"Yeah?" you asked.
"I, as well as the rest of the animatronics, may have overreacted a bit. Uhm, you were talking about our spirits, contacting you?" Toy Bonnie mentioned.
"Yeah."
"Have they been contacting you? Like, for how long? How do they do it? Are their intentions bad?" Toy Bonnie questioned, and you scrunched your eyebrows.
"What?" you wondered.
"Are our spirits' intentions bad?" he worried.
"No, your spirits' intentions are not bad," you muttered.
"Could you tell me more about them? Please?" he asked, and you sighed.
"Fine. Uhm . . . Do you remember that night when we did that first trust exercise, the one where we hugged each other?"
"Yeah, clearly," he replied; you were about to continue, when you noted his response and smiled cheekily.
"Anyways, after all that was the first time they contacted me, through my dreams; they didn't really say anything about them being 'spirits,' and after I woke up, I just thought I had a weird dream. The second time, was the night when you guys were playing with those paddle balls, and that was when they told me that they were your spirits; they told me that they couldn't leave, and weren't at 'rest,' because of their murderer: something Afton, I don't remember for sure; I asked them how I would be able to help them, and they told me that since I was the only one that knew about them, I could separate them from you all. The third time was a few days ago, I think, the night when you got jealous and carried me down here-"
"I wasn't jealous," Toy Bonnie interrupted you.
"Pfft-"
"I don't get jealous," he barked.
"Of course not. As I was saying, that night they explained to me what they meant when they told me about separating them from you, which would be by completely dismantling you all; they told me that they didn't know if you guys had gained your own souls, or if your consciousnesses would stay in your animatronic bodies; I asked them what they meant when they talked about you guys gaining your own souls, and they told me that when a spirit possesses an inanimate object, and it gains its own thoughts, like you guys did, that it would usually form its own soul. They said that if I were to dismantle you guys and you all don't stay, whether it be from your consciousnesses, or possibly your souls, I would be 'heartbroken'; they mentioned that you guys could completely disappear. When I asked them what I should do, they said something along the line of: 'Whatever you feel you should do,' " you explained.
"So, they didn't try to force you to dismantle us?" Toy Bonnie asked.
"No. I told you, they don't have bad intentions," you assured him.
". . . Was that the last time they contacted you?" he wondered.
"Mm-. . . Yeah. I believe so," you told him, deciding not to mention what you woke up from.
