Chapter 12 (Thriving)
"We're so cool!" Toy Chica exclaimed.
"You guys, this is great! If people are actually taking this seriously, then they understand. They're not afraid of you all anymore," you gushed.
"Ahoy beauty, I'd-I'd like t' a-apologize on be-half o' th' crew's be-behavior last night. They-they 'ave nah b-been around a-a-a human in a wh-while," Foxy said as he walked up to the table, Balloon Boy was close behind him.
"Huh? O-oh, no, it's fine," you stammered as you scratched the back of your neck.
"I be sure-sure they didn' m-mean t' make-ake ye cr-y," he assured you.
"Cry! I-I didn't cry, why would I cry?" you scoffed nervously.
"Yer v-voice was crack-in', 'n yer-yer lips w-were twitchin'," he pointed out.
". . . I-I was just excited to finally see you guys again," you came up with an excuse.
"Also, Toy Bonnie told-told me," he explained, and you quickly looked over at Toy Bonnie.
"Toy Bonnie?" you snapped.
"Sorry. When I came back up here last night, he asked if you were okay, and I told him you were crying. I didn't tell him why, though," Toy Bonnie told you.
"You were crying?" Toy Chica gasped, and then quickly stood up, walking towards you.
"Oh, you poor thing," Mangle murmured as she climbed onto the ceiling.
You raised an eyebrow as Toy Chica sat in the chair beside you, and Mangle crawled above you. Toy Chica pulled you over to her and sat you across her lap, and you widened your eyes. You looked up at her, and she tilted her head innocently. You looked over at Mangle as she sat in the chair you were in before, and she scooted closer to you. Toy Bonnie looked over Mangle's shoulder and glared at Toy Chica, his ears were back and his pupils were narrowed.
"Tell me, why were you crying?" Toy Chica uttered softly, and you quickly looked up at her.
"It-. . . It's really stupid. I shouldn't have cried over it," you mumbled as you shifted; Toy Chica put one of her hands on your hip and the other across your legs, and pulled you closer to her.
"Hey! Watch where you put your hands!" Toy Bonnie barked, and you quickly looked over at him, to see him practically smoking in jealousy.
"But you did. What was it?" Toy Chica asked, ignorning Toy Bonnie.
"Well, Bonnie, the one from the old pizzeria, didn't remember me. I mean, as a child, he was my favourite, and I had a lot of memories with him. But it turns out, that he didn't have any memories with me," you explained, and your eyes started to tear up, but you quickly blinked them away.
"It's okay," Mangle murmured as she put her hand in your knee comfortingly.
"Watch it," Toy Bonnie hissed.
"If I were you, I'd cry too," Toy Chica assured you as she hugged you.
"That's enough!" Toy Bonnie shrieked as he stood up; he walked around Mangle's chair and towards you.
"What are you doing?" Toy Chica wondered as her grip on you loosened.
Toy Bonnie pulled you up out of Toy Chica's lap, and you stumbled forward some. He wrapped his arm around your back and lifted your feet out from beneath you. You looked up at him as he glared ahead, stomping towards the Show Stage.
"Where are you going?" Toy Freddy called after Toy Bonnie as he jumped onto the stage; you quickly wrapped your arms around his neck.
Toy Bonnie ignored his question and kicked the hatch open. He hopped down to the bottom of the steps and carefully set you down. You watched him walk back up the stairs and pull the hatch shut. He walked back down to you and quickly lifted you back up again. He started towards the double doors, and you carefully wrapped your arms around his neck.
Toy Bonnie stopped, and looked over at you as his ears twitched. You met his gaze, and held contact. You scrunched your eyebrows, noticing how beautiful his green eyes were. His ears fell to the sides and he looked ahead. He walked into the employees' lounge and walked you over to the couch. He carefully sat you down, and then sat next to you.
"What are you doing?" you wondered.
"We haven't got to spend much time together. Just the two of us," Toy Bonnie replied.
"What about last night?" you mentioned.
"You had fallen asleep before we could talk about anything," he said.
"Well, what do you want to talk about?" you asked as you pulled your legs up and crossed them.
". . . I don't know," he muttered in thought.
"Toy Bonnie," Toy Chica said as she pushed the swinging doors open, and you looked back at her.
"What? You gonna come in here and take (Y/N) away from me again," Toy Bonnie growled as his ears fell back, and you turned to furrow your eyebrows at him.
"Actually, I'm coming in here to take you away from her. I think that employee's here to fix you," Toy Chica replied.
"How can you be so sure?" Toy Bonnie sneered.
"I'm not. But I am sure, that you need to get back on stage before they come in," Toy Chica added, and Toy Bonnie groaned.
"How come he hasn't come in already?" you wondered.
"Well, he seems to be taking some things out of the back of his truck," she said.
"Oh. Okay then. I guess I'll see you tomorrow, Bonbon," you mentioned as Toy Bonnie stood up.
"You're not coming with me?"
"No, I'm gonna go on to sleep."
"Oh. Goodnight, then, boo-tiful," he snorted as he bent over and gave you a "kiss" on the forehead.
"Ooh," Toy Chica squealed quietly.
You smiled, and Toy Bonnie walked out, alongside Toy Chica. You reached under the couch and pulled out your suitcase; tonight you could, for a change, change into pajamas, and brush your teeth. The spirits in the animatronics hadn't contacted you since they told you about themselves. You didn't know whether they were going to contact you tonight or not.
A couple days passed, and the business had been doing better than ever. The spirits still hadn't contacted you yet, but you didn't have the time to think about it. You also haven't been able to hang out with the animatronics much, because you're usually exhausted at the night shift, and go to sleep, and you and the rest are too busy on the day shift.
It was almost 8:00 PM, an hour more and it'd be time for the pizzeria to close up for the night. You were leaning against the doorway to Party Room 3, watching Toy Bonnie explain to a group of children parts of his guitar.
"These are the tuning pegs," Toy Bonnie explained as he carefully twisted one, making sure to turn it back to where it was before.
"Ooh," the kids said, and you chuckled.
Toy Bonnie looked up at you as his ears twitched, and the kids followed his gaze. You blushed lightly at the attention, and the children giggled. You smiled sheepishly as you pushed yourself off the wall and walked around the corner. You stood against the wall, listening for Toy Bonnie to continue.
"Hey kids, I think the show's about to start. Why not find a seat near the Show Stage?" Toy Bonnie said, and you furrowed your eyebrows; you thought it was cute how the kids were always in awe, as well as how Toy Bonnie interacted with them, but you would never admit it.
You could hear the kids start to run out, and you quickly crossed your arms casually. They all passed you and ran towards the Main Hall. When they got around the corner, you stepped into the Party Room, and came face to chest with Toy Bonnie. He took a step back as you looked up at him. You couldn't help but notice his eyes, like you have been. He blushed lightly, and you shook your head of the thought.
"Hey, (Y/N). I was just heading to the Show Stage," Toy Bonnie broke the silence between the two of you.
"Oh. Okay, then," you replied. "I was thinking of heading to the gym to take a shower, before the pizzeria closes for the night."
"Uh, would you be able to catch a show?" he wondered in hope.
"I-I don't know when the gym closes, if it's not already," you muttered as you scratched the back of your neck.
"Oh," Toy Bonnie mumbled as he looked to the side.
"I'll see you tonight, though. Maybe," you added sheepishly.
"See ya."
He walked past you, and you watched him; you didn't want to move just yet, as it would be awkward to walk in the same direction, after saying goodbye. When he got around the corner, you slowly walked into the Main Hall and towards the dining area. When you got past the doorway, you saw that people were already sitting at the tables, waiting for the hourly show to start.
You quickly walked towards the Show Stage, not wanting to draw any attention to yourself. You hopped onto the stage and walked to the hatch. You lifted it up and walked down the stairs, making sure it closed behind you. As you walked through the kitchen, you saw that the chefs and employees were starting to wrap things up for the day. You walked into the employees' lounge and to the couch.
You kneeled down and pulled out your suitcase, unzipping it and rummaging through it. You grabbed your drawstring bag and put some clothes to change into; your "BOO-tiful" shirt, and a pair of grey Adidas sweatpants; as well as your hygienic products, in it. By the time you got back, the day shift would probably be over, so you wouldn't need to change back into your uniform. You thought you could clean your blanket and pillow cases at the laundromat as well, so you grabbed them and did your best to stuff them into your bag.
"Where are you going?" Toy Bonnie asked as you passed him and stepped onto the stage.
"Bed," you replied as you lifted the hatch.
"Already?" he whined.
"Yep."
You started down the steps, and Toy Bonnie followed you. You walked through the kitchen and into the employees' lounge. Toy Bonnie paused for a moment as the doors closed, and he grunted as he harshly pushed them open. You quickly fixed up the couch, putting your pillows at the top, and spreading your blanket out.
"Can't we just hang out for a few minutes?" Toy Bonnie pleaded, and you sat down.
". . . Sure," you sighed, and patted the spot beside you.
"Yay!" he cheered as he quickly walked past you and sat beside you. "What do you wanna do?"
"Mm- Why don't we try-"
"Your shirt!" Toy Bonnie blurted.
"Why don't we try my shirt?" you questioned.
"Your shirt. It's beautiful," he gasped, and you looked down at it.
"Don't you mean: 'boo-tiful,' " you snickered, and Toy Bonnie snorted. "I got it just for you."
". . . You got it for me?" he asked as his head tilted, and you blushed brightly.
"I mean, I thought you'd like it, since you're always calling me 'boo,' and 'boo-tiful,' " you replied nervously.
"I love it!" he exclaimed.
"That's good," you giggled.
". . . Uhm, what were you saying before?" he asked sheepishly.
"Uh . . . Oh, I was saying that we could try another trust exercise," you told him.
"Oh. Yeah, that sounds cool. Wh-what exer-"
"We can hold eye contact for a few minutes," you blurted, and Toy Bonnie's ears fell over; you knew "gazing into each other's eyes," was supposed to be romantic, but you needed an excuse to look at his eyes again; you had this feeling the last few times, and you needed to know what it was for sure.
"O-okay," Toy Bonnie stuttered as he looked over and scratched the back of his head.
"We can go for however long we feel," you mentioned as you pulled your leg up and twisted towards him.
You grabbed both Toy Bonnie's hands, and he glanced down. When he looked back up at you, he met your gaze, and you held his eye contact. He looked between your eyes nervously, and you focused intently on his pupils. His eyes glowed lightly, and a sly grin slowly spread across your face. Your gaze relaxed, and you tilted your head some.
You leaned over, against the back of the couch. Toy Bonnie followed you, leaning against the couch beside you. You smiled softly, keeping his eye contact, and his ears twitched. You slowly blinked, and Toy Bonnie quickly blinked in response. You giggled as you closed your eyes. When your grip loosened, Toy Bonnie lightly squeezed your hands, and you squeezed back.
Your smile faded as you started to fall asleep, and Toy Bonnie sighed. He carefully let your hands go and stood up. He put his hand against your back, and leaned you back, on your pillows. He pulled the blanket out from under you, and draped it over you. You gripped the edge of the blanket, and cuddled up to it. Toy Bonnie pecked the top of your head as he gently rubbed your shoulder, and you smiled.
"Hello, (Y/N)," a girl's voice said from behind you, and you looked back, to see the animatronics' spirits; you glanced around, to see yourself in the office.
"That didn't take very long," you chuckled.
"We didn't want to waste any time," the girl mentioned.
"Didn't wanna waste any time? Is something wrong?" you worried.
"In fact, there is something wrong. The last time we talked with you, we had told you that you would be able to help us, by separating us from the animatronics. We thought you would've gotten the hint, but you didn't," she said.
"What hint?"
"When we told you that you could seperate us from the animatronics," a boy added.
". . . I still don't get it. What's wrong about not getting the hint? Why didn't you guys just tell me before?" you questioned.
"Well, we didn't tell you, because we didn't know if it would work for sure. And there's no problem about not getting the hint, it's about your relationship with one of the animatronics," the girl explained.
"Toy Bonnie? I-I mean- Which animatronic?" you gulped, and the children snickered to each other quietly. "Shush! What about my relationship? I-I thought you guys said that you wouldn't affect my relationship with them?"
"Well, we've recently had a few thoughts; if you were to seperate us, we don't know if the animatronics would keep their consciousnesses, or not," she mused.
"H-how would I seperate you guys?"
"You would have to completely dismantle the animatronics."
"O-oh," you stuttered.
"We don't know if they've gained their own souls, and it'd keep them mindful that way, or if their consciousnesses would still linger in the animatronic bodies, or-"
"Hold up, backtrack a bit. What was that part about gaining their own souls?" you babbled in bewilderment.
"When a spirit possesses an inanimate object, and it gains its own thoughts, which is incredibly rare, it usually forms its own soul. If their 'bodies' are destroyed, but their soul is still forming, they can gradually possess larger things," she explained.
"How do you know this?"
"We've seen it happen before."
". . . So, what's wrong?" you asked sheepishly, still not understanding what they were getting at.
"You're starting to develop affectionate feelings for one of the animatronics-"
"Is that what I've been feeling?" you wondered.
"Yes."
"Would that be considered wrong?"
"Depends. If the fact that they aren't just animatronics, and they have their own thoughts, is taken into account, possibly not," she added.
"Okay then," you mused, thinking back to Toy Bonnie.
"Focus now," she snapped you out of your thoughts, and you looked up at her. "If you were to dismantle the animatronics now, and their consciousnesses, or souls, don't stay, you would be heartbroken."
"Oh. Why would it matter how I feel? A-as long as you guys are free, it doesn't matter," you assured them nervously.
"We know that's not how you really feel," she said, and you sighed as you sat in the chair.
"I mean, they've got their own thoughts, which you said is rare, so they should have developed souls, right?" you mentioned.
"We would think, but we're not for sure. If they haven't already, and you destroy them, they could completely disappear," she explained, and you leaned back.
"What do I do?" you uttered quietly.
"Whatever you feel you should do," she replied, and your body began to feel tingly as things blurred away.
You opened your eyes, to see the back of the couch. You wiped your eyes and rolled over. When you were face to face with something, you quickly shot up. You relaxed when you realized that it was just Toy Bonnie. His ears twitched as his pupils dilated.
"Good morning, boo-tiful," he cooed, and you stretched.
"Morning," you yawned, and he snorted.
"It's almost 6 AM," he told you softly.
"How long have you been there?" you wondered, and looked at him through tired eyes.
"Uh-uhm, that doesn't matter," he said nervously. "Employees should start coming soon, and I wanted to make sure you weren't asleep when they came down here."
"Oh, okay," you muttered as you pulled your feet onto the floor.
You sighed as you closed your eyes, and Toy Bonnie tilted his head. You quickly stood up, wanting to get the day started. You kneeled down and pulled out your suitcase, planning to get your uniform out and change. You unzipped it and searched through it. When you couldn't find it, you paused for a moment.
"Are you looking for this?" Toy Bonnie wondered, and you looked over at him, to see him holding up your drawstring bag.
"Maybe," you muttered as he handed it to you, and you pulled it open and spotted your uniform; you remembered now that after coming back from the gym and laundromat, you had just tossed your bag under the couch, not bothering to take anything out of it. "Thank you."
"I love your shirt," Toy Bonnie brought up, and you raised an eyebrow at him.
"Yeah, I know, you told me last night," you told him.
"I know, I'm just reminding you," he commented as he winked at you, and you blushed lightly.
