Chapter 1 (Coward)
You stirred awake to the sound of a phone ringing. You peeled your eyes open, and lifted up your head. You looked over towards your bedside table, and saw the screen of your cellphone lit up. You groaned and reached for it. Sliding it off the table, you didn't even bother to read the caller ID, answering it and putting it up to your ear.
"Hello?" you muttered groggily.
"(Y/N)! You have to come get me!" a voice pleaded.
"Who is this?" you murmured, your eyes slowly closed.
"It's Peter!" they replied; it was your roommate, he was working the night shift at a pizzeria.
"Dude, it's-" you looked at the clock, "two, o'clock, in the morning? Why are you calling me?" you grumbled.
"Please come get me," he croaked.
"Why?" you sassed.
"They're trying to kill me," he squeaked.
"Who?" you asked, your eyes widened nervously as you sat up.
"The animatronics!"
"The animatronics?" you jeered, squinting in a glowering manner.
"They're alive, (Y/N)! The animatronics are alive, and they're trying to kill me," he sputtered.
"Oh, Pete," you sighed, you leaned against the bed backboard. "Don't you think you're being a bit paranoid? I mean, animatronics, are trying to kill you?"
"Please, (Y/N), come pick me up. You don't have to believe me. I just want out of this place," he quavered.
You sighed and threw your head back against the bed frame. You could hear Peter breathing heavily.
"Fine," you growled through gritted teeth.
"Oh, thank you-"
"Yeah, you owe me later for this," you insisted.
"Hurry, plea-"
You ended the call before he could finish. You dropped your phone back onto the bedside table, and groaned, rolling your eyes to the back of your head. You threw the blanket off yourself and slid your feet out of bed.
You had always knew Peter to be chickenhearted, ever since you moved in with him. You didn't look down upon him for it, though. Granted, there were times, like now, that his cowardice nature was a pain in the butt.
You hopped onto the floor and walked to the foot of your bed, in front of your dresser. You pulled out a pair of bootcut jeans, and a shirt that said "BORN TO BE REAL NOT PERFECT." You remembered that it had been raining all day, and it was chilly out, so you took out a pair of black thigh socks.
After you got changed, you grabbed your phone, and earbuds, and shoved them into your pockets. You slipped on your high tops, not bothering to tie them.
You pulled in front of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, your headlights reflected off the glass double doors. You had been here earlier to drop Peter off, but with most of the town deserted, it was a lot creepier.
You turned off the engine to your car. You opened your door and stepped out onto the pavement. Shutting it behind you, you walked up to the front doors, looking around cautiously. You looked through the doors, you couldn't see anything due to the street lamps. You cupped your eyes and scanned the inside of the pizzeria, nothing was out of the ordinary.
You pulled at the handle to the one of the doors, and surprisingly, it opened; Peter must have unlocked them, or they were never locked in the first place. You stepped into the pizzeria, making sure the door closed behind you. You were thankful you wore long socks, as it wasn't any warmer inside. You could hear the faint sound of a music box playing, and the whole place smelled of pizza.
You looked around the dark place, star streamers and a few "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" banners hung from the ceiling, and the worn out walls were decorated with posters, drawings, and pizzas. To your right, there were two lights shining on the show stage, which was occupied by three large animatronics; one was pointing down onto them from the ceiling, and the other was shining on them from the top of the wall. There were a few tables in front of you, with pointed party hats set out on them. Two more lights barely lit up the left corners of the large room. Towards the far left corner was a mini carousel ride, that was surrounded with present boxes and balloons; a couple tables, and a short humanoid animatronic, that was holding a sign and a balloon, stood near it. Across from it was a counter and shelves, with plushies on them, and a giant present box, a few smaller boxes and balloons were beside them.
"What's with this place's obsession with balloons and presents?" you thought to yourself.
You stiffened when one of the lights went out. You stayed in place, somewhat afraid to move, and listened for some type of movement. A light shined from the left corner of the room, and you jumped. You carefully looked around, and started to advance towards the light. You squinted your eyes and saw that the light was coming from some type of security camera; it was probably Peter checking around the place, they must've hooked some type of flashlight mechanic to it to see easier.
The light went out, and you ran up beside the carousel, where the camera was pointing, hoping to catch Peter's attention before he switched to a different one. The light shined and you squinted, and guarded your eyes with your hand. The camera slowly scanned left, and the light turned off. You dropped your hand and stared at the camera, waiting for the spots to leave your vision. The camera started to move right.
You waved at the camera and said, "Hi! I'm here!"
You dropped your hand by your side, wondering what Peter was doing. The sound of stomping footsteps behind you, made your heart lurch. You looked back, only to see someone in a Freddy Fazbear mask, running and reaching for you. You shrieked and stepped back, the figure harshly grabbed your arms.
"(Y/N)!" they exclaimed in relief, and now hearing them, you sighed when you realized that it was just Peter.
"Man, you do not run up on a woman like that," you said as you put a hand over your heart. "You scared the sh-"
"Shh!" Peter hushed you as he put his hand over your mouth and a finger to his lip.
You gripped his wrist and slowly pulled it away from your mouth, giving him a stern look. He grabbed your hand and pulled you along with him.
"We have to get out of here!" he spouted as he ran around the carousel and towards the front doors.
"Wait, wait, wait," you said as you pulled from Peter.
He came to a stop and looked back at you. You smiled at him warmly and placed your hands on his shoulders. "Look, Peter. Everything's okay. The animatronics are in their places, and they aren't trying to kill us," you coaxed him.
"But (Y/N)-"
"This is a kids' pizzeria place, Peter. This would be the last place you need be afraid of. I'm sure it's just your head messing with you," you assured him, sliding your hands from his shoulders.
"(Y/N), we need to get out of here, before they come after us," Peter fretted, looking towards the front doors, and then back to you.
"There's still a job to be done, Peter. We can't just leave this place unsupervised. If something did happen, we could get in a lot of trouble."
Peter gulped and looked over at the animatronics shakily. You sighed and unhooked the keys from your belt loop.
"How about, you go on home and get some sleep. I'll stay here and complete tonight's shift. Does that sound okay?" you suggested, holding up the keys.
Peter hesitantly grabbed the keys and looked at you, you nodded. He sighed and took off his mask, handing it over to you.
"What's this for?" you wondered as you studied the mask.
"You'll understand once you hear the message."
"Message?"
"When you get into the office, play the pre-recorded message that's on the phone. The flashlight and the tablet, that has the camera feed on it, is on the desk," Peter explained.
"Got it," you said.
"(Y/N). Please be careful," Peter quavered, his eyes were full of worry.
"I will," you assured him, giving him a warm smile as he took a step back.
Peter sighed and lowered his head, turning and walking to the front doors. He pushed the door open, looking back at you one more time, before stepping outside and shutting the door behind him.
You waved to him as he backed the car out of the parking lot, you could still see the worry on his face. You sighed and looked around the pizzeria, wondering where the office, that Peter was talking about, was at. There was a doorway next to the large present box. You jogged up to it, now that you were closer, you could hear that the faint music was coming from inside the large box.
You popped your head into the room and looked around. It was like the rest of the pizzeria, there were a couple lights in the corners, a table with party hats on it was against the wall, the walls had posters, drawings, and pizzas on them, and there were balloons and present boxes everywhere. The only thing that was different was, instead of streamers, cords hung from the ceiling.
You noticed though, that the sound of, what seemed to be radio static, was coming from the far corner of the room. It was dark, so you couldn't see for sure what was making the sound. You took your phone out of your pocket and turned on the flashlight. You pointed the light towards the corner, and saw a mutilated animatronic.
"Oh wow," you gasped unintentionally.
You turned off your phone and put it back in your pocket, assuming that you weren't in the office. You turned back around, looking around for another doorway that could lead to the office. You walked around the carousel, and saw an opening across from the front doors. You walked past the tables and stepped into the doorway. There was a light above you, that obstructed your view from the rest of the room. All that you could see, was star decorations hanging from the ceiling, more posters on the walls, and a sign with a figure on it, that was beside an opening, that you assumed was a bathroom. There was a dim light, along the left wall, coming from a different room. You made your way through the darkness, and looked around the corner; there was a large hallway, and at the end was a room with a desk.
"Aha," you crowed.
You walked down the hall, quickly glancing into the four other rooms that were along the walls, there seemed to only be tables set out in them. When you entered the office, you walked around the desk and sat in the chair, looking around. There were two warning symbols on the wall above the entrance. A light was hanging from the ceiling, along with colored star streamers. Monitors were set atop each other against the far wall, with thick wires coming from them; there were also many papers stuck to the wall, you couldn't tell what was on them. There were two air vents on both the left and right walls, that had buttons on them. On the left wall, was a large poster that read "CELEBRATE," with the three animatronics you saw on the show stage earlier. On the right wall, were more drawings that, like the rest of them, had the words "MY DAY AT THE NEW- Freddy Fazbear's Pizza!" at the top.
You tossed the Freddy mask onto the desk, and it slid into the fan. The flashlight, like Peter had said, was on the table, but you didn't see a tablet. You looked under the desk, wondering if it had fallen off the table. In the corner of your eye, you saw something in the right air vent. You stood up and walked over to it. Picking it up, you saw that it was the tablet, you wondered how it had made its way that far from the table. You shrugged and walked back over to the desk, sitting back down in the chair.
You grabbed the flashlight and set it in your lap as you turned the tablet on. When the screen came on, it showed the camera feed from the show stage; there was a layout of the pizzeria, that took up most of the right half of the screen. In the top right corner, was a clock, it read 3 AM. There was a battery sign in the top left corner of the screen, that showed the percentage of the tablet, it was fully charged. The layout labeled the cameras, and at the top, it showed where they were positioned: you were looking at "CAM 09," "Show Stage." There was a button beside the battery sign, it said "UNMUTE CALL."
You pressed the button, unsure of what to expect, and jumped when a male voice came through the speakers on the tablet.
"Uh, hello? Hello, hello? Uh, hello and welcome to your new summer job at the new and improved Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Uh, I'm here to talk you through some of the things you can expect to see during your first week here and to help you get started down this new and exciting career path."
"I won't be here much longer, buddy," you butted in, as you set your feet up on the desk.
"Uh, now, I want you to forget anything you may have heard about the old location, you know. Uh, some people still have a somewhat negative impression of the company. Uh... that old restaurant was kind of left to rot for quite a while, but I want to reassure you, Fazbear Entertainment is committed to family fun and above all, safety."
You remembered the old pizzeria, you used to love the place as a kid. Although you didn't remember much about the place, as you hadn't been to any Fazbear pizzerias in years.
"They've spent a small fortune on these new animatronics, uh, facial recognition, advanced mobility, they even let them walk around during the day. Isn't that neat?" the man talking cleared his throat, "But most importantly, they're all tied into some kind of criminal database, so they can detect a predator a mile away. Heck, we should be paying them to guard you."
You sighed in boredom, and looked at the animatronics on the screen, trying to remember their names. You noticed though, that there were only two animatronics. You slid your feet off the desk, raising an eyebrow at the tablet. You looked up at the poster, and then to the screen; the bear and chicken were still on the stage, but the blue bunny was missing. You wondered how long it had been gone, or if it was even there when you turned the tablet on; as far as you knew, if it wasn't stolen, the bunny could've moved from its place when Peter had left.
"Uh, now that being said, no new system's without its... kinks. Uh... you're only the second guard to work at that location. Uh, the first guy finished his week, but complained about... conditions. Uh, we switched him over to the day shift, so hey, lucky you, right? Uh mainly he expressed concern that certain characters seemed to move around at night, and even attempted to get into his office. Now, from what we know, that should be impossible. Uh, that restaurant should be the safest place on earth. So while our engineers don't really have an explanation for this, the working theory is that... the robots were never given a proper "night mode". So when it gets quiet, they think they're in the wrong room, so then they go try to find where the people are, and in this case, that's your office."
You sighed, supposing that the blue bunny was just doing what was in its system, and that nothing was actually wrong.
"So our temporary solution is this: there's a music box over by the Prize Counter, and it's rigged to be wound up remotely. So just, every once in a while, switch over to the Prize Counter video feed and wind it up for a few seconds. It doesn't seem to affect all of the animatronics, but it does affect... one of them."
Studying the map, you switched over to CAM 11, and mentally fist-pumped when you got to the Prize Corner on the first try. Next to the pizzeria layout, was a button that said "Wind Up Music Box," and beside it was a circular timer. You pressed the button, and wound the music box back up.
"Uh, and as for the rest of them, we have an even easier solution. You see, there may be a minor glitch in the system, something about robots seeing you as an endoskeleton without his costume on, and wanting to stuff you in a suit, so hey, we've given you an empty Freddy Fazbear head, problem solved! You can put it on anytime, and leave it on for as long as you want. Eventually anything that wandered in, will wander back out."
"So that's what had Peter so worked up. Some guy putting nonsense in his head," you grunted. "It is nonsense, right?" your voice cracked.
"Uh, something else worth mentioning is kind of the modern design of the building. You may have noticed there are no doors for you to close, heh. But hey, you have a light! And even though your flashlight can run out of power, the building cannot. So, don't worry about the place going dark. Well, I think that's it. Uh, you should be golden. Uh, check the lights, put on the Freddy head if you need to, uh, keep the music box wound up, piece of cake. Have a good night, and I'll talk to you tomorrow."
The call ended, and you looked through the cameras spastically, searching for the blue bunny. A thump in the right air vent, made your skin crawl. You looked over at the vent, your heart jumped into your throat with every beat, and a queasy feeling formed in your stomach.
(Author's Note) I've finally wrote something. I don't have anything else written at the moment, but if I didn't go ahead and post this, I knew I'd procrastinate until I was uninterested in it. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the story.
