Keirstrider (the assumed to be male but actually female orange Pumla) and Hafaleil (the blue female) are semi-tamed pumlas that belong to Thorn and Sharp, and it's via them that the two can get from the island they live on to the mainland. Both are fully grown and can effortlessly support the weights of either or both owners and the weight of many groceries. 

Pumlas typically have black wings and a black tail tip, whereas their scruffs, bellies, paws and snouts tend to be white. Outside of that they come in many colours and can have many patterns of spots and stripes. Well adapted to high altitudes and cool temperatures, these flying beasts are rare but valuable companions. Hunters untamed ones will prey on livestock, Thorn and Sharp however keep their pumlas content with a steady diet of fish. While both Thorn and Sharp think Keirstrider is male, she's actually female, furthermore she and Hafaleil are a mated pair.
