She's a Mermaid He's a Pirate Chapter 2
Soul's POV
I pulled Black Star aside to have a 'little chat' with the bluenette.
"Hey cap'n. Why are you so protective over that fish?"
"First off, don't call her a fish! Second off, I just met her and she gave me this." I said while holding up the blue crystal bracelet.
Black Star's eyes widened.
"Cap'n! Do you know how much money we could get for that!! It must be worth a fortune and would probably quadruple in value if we threw in the girl." He said, rubbing his chin while daydreaming about the money.
I slapped the back of his head.
"Idiot! We aren't going to sell it! It was a gift."
"Miss Low Tide over there gave that to you?"
I nodded and looked down at the small crystals glistening as the sun finally set.
"You like her, don't you cap'n." He gave me a mischievous grin as I stuttered.
"N-no! We're just friends! I've known her for about 3 hours now!"
"FOOLS!"
Black Star and I cringed as we turned to the stowaway who had wandered onto our ship.
I gave a nod to the blue-spiked man and he grinned before giving Excalibur a good kick. The white, whatever he is, bounced off and squeaked like a toy.
I walked back on deck only to be met with a burst of light. I covered my eyes with my hands and faced the semi naked girl sitting in front of me.
Her face was a deep red as she screamed, "LOOK AWAY!!"
I did so, but not before blood shot out of my nose.
Tsubaki, our cook, came sprinting onto the deck.
"What's going on here?!" She screeched before her eyes landed on Maka.
Her frantic state vanished and was replaced with kindness as she quickly snapped her fingers and yelled, "I NEED A MAKEOVER!!"
Suddenly, footsteps that started from what seemed like the very bottom of the deck quickly became louder and slammed into Tsubaki.
"How do you want to look? I think blue is your color don't you? We should start with the hair! Or maybe the wardrobe!" She droned on and on.
"Sorry Liz, it's not for me. It's for this girl." Tsubaki said while gesturing to Maka.
Liz's eyes sparkled and she grabbed Maka's wrist, while Tsubaki shielded her, and rushed below deck.
After they had left, Black Star chuckled. "Hey cap'n. You aren't thinkin' about making that fish apart of our crew are you?"
I froze, "W-well. I was going to offer, but we don't know if she'll say yes."
He shook his head in dismay, "Forget about it."
He trudged off to the wheel of the ship. I let out an exasperated breath.
A giggle echoed throughout the boat. Well I guess Patty met Maka. I smiled to myself and returned to my original spot on the railing. The stars twinkled overhead and I gazed at the patterns and constellations.
"Intro-ducing the new and improved Maka!" Liz's voice announced.
I looked over in her direction and gasped at the sight. She was still wearing her jewelry and headdress but a white blouse covered her bust with a pair of tight black pants, a thick belt, and boots shielding her lower half.
Her hair hung in waves down to her lower back and she smiled at me.
"H-hi." She blushed.
I sent her a warm grin while hopping off of the rail.
"Would you like to join my crew?"
Her eyes widened in surprise as she happily nodded. My signature shark-smirk slid onto my face.
I ordered for Black Star to secure a hammock outside since we didn't have much space below deck. Kid, our navigations expert, pulled out a ruler to make sure it was symmetrical. After, he was satisfied, I left Maka to get some rest.
The next day, I woke up to a splash. Maka was swimming around happily. I watched her from the crows nest. I heard a soft melody drift up from the water. My eyes softened and I listened to the tune. When she leaped onto the deck, she quickly transformed back into her human form.
I jumped down to stand in front of her. She smirked.
"Show-off." She muttered playfully.
I lifted my hands in mock surrender.
"Land-ho!!" Black Star yelled.
I grabbed the telescope from my jacket and my eyes settled on the small pinprick on the horizon.
We docked at the town and I helped Maka off of the ship. I sent Liz, Kid, and Patty to get some more food and provisions while Black Star and Tsubaki stayed behind to watch the boat. I led Maka down the winding street to the market place.
Many merchants were shouting and urging people to buy goods from their stands. We passed by many tents of bright colors until a faded purple one seemed to catch Maka's eyes.
Fortune Telling
I chuckled, "would you like to get your fortune told?"
She nodded eagerly and I handed the lady, wrapped in many scarfs, a silver coin before letting her step inside.
I heard a few muffled conversations going on inside. I leaned my head against the post.
"Who do I fall in love with?"
I visibly tensed, shocked at the question. I tried to eavesdrop and managed to snag the conversation.
"Well my dear let's take a look. Hm, well he is very powerful and strong, he possesses unique abilities, yet he is often misunderstood. This man is different than many. Would you look at that? He seems to be a sailer with his own ship. Perhaps you know him already? He is also-"
A loud crash was heard from inside. My heart was trying to calm down from the new information.
"I knew it, I knew it! It seems a mermaid has stumbled into my tent!"
My eyes widened, "Maka!"
Soldiers stormed inside before I could move and threw Maka out forcefully. She curled in on herself and gasped. I ran to her and held her in my arms.
"What happened?!" I questioned.
"Lady...spilled water...on me....can't...breathe." She said in between labored breaths.
I clutched her tightly.
"Why can't you turn back?!" I yelled as the troops circled us.
"It wasn't...regular...water." She sputters.
My eyes hardened as I set her down gently on the ground. I concentrated as my right hand began to glow and transformed into a razor sharp red and black blade.
"I-it's him! He's the one from the prophecy!" A soldier exclaimed.
"The name's Soul Eater, but you can call me Death Scythe." I smirked crouching down into a protective stance in front of Maka, who was beginning to pass out from the lack of hydration.
Guess I'll have to make this quick.
A brave soldier stepped forward and I attacked. He dodged but I swung my hand from underneath and caught his stomach. He flew backwards into the crowd. I glanced behind me once again to see Maka looking deathly pale.
I have to get her out of here.
Another soldier nervously came forward but I slammed him onto his back with lightening speed. The others backed away.
"Leave this island and take your prize." A man yelled.
"Too bad she's been cursed." Another whispered.
My mind didn't dwell on the last comment as I scooped up Maka's terrifyingly limp form. My legs moved swiftly as I raced to the ocean and prayed that I wouldn't be too late.
