35.
Sol was right, it had been a long night.
Artemis yawned before she scowled at the female in front of her. The other two humans were awake now, not that she cared much. They were both male and Sol had lined them up so they sat next to the female, all of them tied up, leaving very little to no room for escape.
The male on the end seemed to be the most outspoken one from the trio. He was actually the only one that was willing to talk while the female cowered against the man she was sat next to. It seemed that they were a couple with the way the man next to her seemed to be comforting her with quiet words which he believed the two werewolves wouldn't be able to hear despite everything he had learnt about them.
Their conversation wasn't of much interest so Artemis didn't pay any particular attention to them as she snuggled into a blanket on the couch, covering her mouth as she yawned. Sol, on the other hand was fully awake as he sat on the coffee table in front of her, his side portrait facing her as he bared his teeth at the human male on the end of the pathetic three musketeers.
The human on the end whom had muttered 'Darius' under his breath when she had asked for his name earlier was the sourest and most bitter man she had ever met. It seemed that he permanently woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
It had been about an hour and a half since Sol had called up elder Jackson so they should be here soon.
"I demand that you let us go." His voice was loud and clear, pretending to not be scared of the situation he had gotten himself into.
Sol snorted haughtily. "And who are you to demand things?" He chuckled darkly.
"You're going to regret this."
Sol snorted again and turned to face her with a smirk on his face, still playing with the butcher's knife in his hands. "Did you hear him?"
Artemis pouted and smiled at him sleepily. "Did you guys have to break into our home today?" She turned to the human trio on the ground though the question was mainly directed to Darius since he seemed to be the spokesperson amongst them.
Sol didn't say anything regarding her calling his cabin their home but it did touch his heart.
"Did I interrupt your beauty sleep, princess?" The human snarled at her, curling up his lip in disgust.
"Don't speak to her that way." Sol snapped at her, not at all happy with the human scum speaking to Artemis in that way. She was far above him and he didn't like that this human thought for even a second that he was on the same level as her.
Darius scowled but didn't say anything, his eyes trained on Sol. He didn't dare say anything to the male werewolf. They had warned him about the male being an Alpha and a strong one at that. Darius absolutely hated werewolves but he wasn't a complete idiot where he thought that he would be able to take on a werewolf with their super-human everything, and let alone an Alpha at that. Plus, Solomon looked absolutely furious with having a mini group of humans come into his cabin and invade his privacy while he was asleep.
Upsetting him more than they had already done would be begging for a long, torturous death.
They had been warned several times to the point that it got annoying, not to get caught in their house. That was the last thing Darius had intended to happen since he knew that the chances of them getting out of it alive now were slim.
He had no qualms about pissing off Artemis though.
"Shut up, Darius." Artemis snapped at him, not at all happy with a stranger being absolutely horrid to her for no reason, especially since they had never met before.
"Make me, bitch."
Sol growled and threw the knife at Darius. He missed her intentionally but the human didn't know that. As expected, the human female, Poppy shrieked in fear. Artemis didn't even flinch while the other human male, Harry flinched enough for all of the beings in that room, both human and supernatural while Darius eyes grew significantly in size.
Sol sat back and chuckled darkly, retrieving the knife from next to the human's leg before he got any great ideas. "I told you not to speak to her that way." He growled out, his eyes menacing as he stared down at the
Artemis was just glad that he hadn't wet himself.
Darius merely squeaked in response but nodded his head in agreement.
If Harry could, Artemis was sure that he would distance himself and Poppy as far away from Darius as they possibly could. Neither of them clearly approved of the way Darius was choosing to act in the situation that were in.
Sol sat back down on the coffee table, watching as the human attempted to scamper away from him, though with no luck as he was tied down and there was no where he could escape to. Plus, Sol would have him back on the ground and begging for his life in less than a heartbeat.
"Now, why don't you tell me what you're doing in my cabin tonight."
Harry looked like he had begun sweating in fear but no one but the woman next to him seemed to care even in the slightest, and the other human was too busy trying to keep himself alive after having just nearly got himself killed.
Artemis would have laughed at the situation if she wasn't so tired after having been very rudely awakened a few hours ago now.
Lucky for them, Darius chose for now to be the moment that he would keep to himself, that including everything and anything he had to say.
Sighing, Sol assessed the situation, his eyes running over all three of the humans, making sure that they were all securely tied up before he got up from the hard and cold glass of the coffee table. Dropping himself down on the sofa next to Artemis, he offered her a lopsided smile.
"We've just got to wait for the elders now," she whispered quiet enough so that only he could hear as she rested her head on his shoulder, holding the blanket up so he could drape it over his body too as he joined her underneath it.
In less than half an hour, all three elders had piled out of their car which they had parked in the driveway and made their way into the houses. Neither of them sat down as they stood in front of the humans, scrutinized them. Artemis would be nervous if she was one of the humans on the floor right now, but she just yawned on the sofa instead.
Sol rubbed a hand over his face. "We couldn't get them to talk." He sighed as he dropped himself down on the sofa, resting his elbows on his knees as he leaned forward, snarling at the human Darius that had been caught staring at him.
"I'm not surprised." Elder Oscar snorted. "They couldn't just make things easier for us, could they?" He voiced sarcastically.
Elder Jackson shook his head. "What are you doing here?"
None of the humans spoke but Harry and Poppy shared a look, almost as if they were unsure about what to do. For the first time that night, Darius chose to remain quiet as he stared down at the ground, his lips locked as he ignored al the werewolves that were staring down at them.
"Darius," Artemis called out to him, sleepily. She stared at him until he huffed and finally teared his eyes away from the ground to spare her a glance. "You could just make things easier for us by telling us what you want."
"Who says we wanted anything?"
"So, you just break into people's houses during the middle of the night for shits and giggles?"
He shrugged. "Pretty much."
Sol was started to get annoyed. The past two days had been tiring and he had planned to spend the night sleeping in his own bed, under his roof with Artemis in his arms and these humans had very rudely ruined anything. "It's no secret that we're werewolves."
The humans didn't even act shocked. All the werewolves in the room shared knowing looks. Their suspicions had been confirmed.
Elder Jackson shuffled around the coffee table as he finally sat down on the edge of it, facing the humans directly. "It's no coincidence that you chose to break into this cabin in the middle of the night."
Darius pouted his lips and pretended to be clueless. "We just stumbled across it and decided to let ourselves in."
Elder Henley snarled at them, crossing his arms over his chest menacingly as he stared them all down. He growled when the human female whimpered in fear but everyone else ignored her. They didn't feel much pity for them at the moment, especially since they had literally walked themselves into the situation that they were now trapped in. "Dressed in radioactive suits and gas masks?" The elder snapped at them, baring his teeth when Darius glared at them.
It didn't seem like Darius was much of a people's person, though it didn't seem that he cared too much at the moment. He certainly wasn't doing himself any favours, angering a room full of werewolves whom were all very tired and sleep deprived.
Artemis was sure that if Harry had his hands free at the moment, he would strange his human companion just to keep his mouth shut. It seemed that neither him nor Poppy appreciated Darius dragging them down with him.
"We were at a fancy-dress party," he shrugged again, not caring that the elder sat directly in front of him on the coffee table was very visibly running out of patience.
Artemis sighed and turned her body on the sofa so she was now facing Sol. He looked over too and must have realised that she wanted to say anything so he scooted himself closer to her on the sofa, despite them both being werewolves. If he wanted, he could have just stayed where he was and would have been able to hear her perfectly clear.
He cocked a questioning eyebrow.
"Can't you scare them?" She whispered aware that all the elders in the room could hear, not that she cared. As long as she was quiet enough so that the humans had no idea what she was saying, they were good.
"You're going to need to explain more than that." He offered her a lopsided smile.
"Darius doesn't seem like he's going to crack any time soon," she paused and watched as he nodded in agreement. Artemis could feel the obnoxious human male staring at her, trying to make out what they were whispering but there was no way he would be able to hear without supernatural enhanced hearing. "But Poppy seems like the easiest target. If you apply enough pressure in the right places, I'm sure she'll crack and spill everything she knows."
Sol leaned back against the sofa as he pondered over what she had suggested.
His lips twisted into a slow smile a she leaned over and pressed his lips behind her ear, thanking her for the great idea.
Artemis truly was a blessing.
Standing up, he caught elder Oscar's eye who showcased all his teeth in the evil smiling he was baring. Sol nodded at the elder as he walked up to him. "We need to get her away from the other two," he mumbled under his breath. The elder nodded and turned to face the human female.
As expected, she started sobbing hysterically when the elder crouched down at her feet to untie them as Sol held back Harry whom seemed to be panicking more than her but with less tears. Darius barely batted an eyelash. That human surely was scum.
Sol's phone started ringing from where he had left it earlier on the sofa.
Artemis' eyebrows raised in surprise as she stared at the blaring device. Who called this earlier in the morning? It was still dark outside.
"Sol," she called out to him but when she looked up at her, he motioned for her to pick it up as he worked with the elder to disentangle the human female from Harry whom seemed determined not to let her leave the room without him.
They must have been correct to assume that those two humans were an item. That could very easily work in their favour.
Picking up the phone, she stared at the caller ID for a brief second before she rushed to pick it up, dread running down her spine. "Clark?" She answered the call, gulping as she listened him speak a hundred words a minute, rushing to explain what had happened.
"Sol!" Artemis called out to him for the second time, the phone still pressed to her ear. "We have a problem."
That had gotten his attention. In fact, that had gotten the attention of everyone in the room, both human and werewolf.
