Chapter Twenty-Seven
y'all better be ready for some confusion between names
Jenny and Dean sat next to one another across from Sam at the motel dining table, who was drawing a tree. The two were looking through Sam's computer at potential cases.
"All right. I've been cruisin' some websites. I think we found a few candidates for our next gig. A fishing trawler found off the coast of Cali— its crew vanished. And, uh, we got some cattle mutilations in West Texas." When Sam didn't respond, Dean turned to his brother. "Hey." Sam looked up from his drawing. "Am I boring you with this hunting evil stuff?"
"No. I'm listening."
Jenny frowned as Sam for a moment before peering over Dean's shoulder again. "Okay, uh... Sacramento. Got shot himself in the head... Three times." She looked up at Sam in hopes it would spark his interest. Nothing.
"Sammy." Dean waved his hand in front of his brothers face. "Any of these things blowin' up your skirt, pal?"
Sam stared at his drawing before frowning. "Wait. I've seen this."
"Seen what?" Sam got up from his chair and started searching through his duffel bag. "What are you doing?" Dean continued to ask as Sam ignored him, finding a photo. He looked between the picture and his drawing of the tree, scoffing.
"Guys, I know where we have to go next." He showed the drawing and the photo, Jenny frowning in confusion. "Back home— back to Kansas."
Jenny's eyes lit up at the thought of going back to Kansas. She could see Bobby.
"Okay, random. Where'd that come from?" Dean interrupted the girls thoughts as Jenny just had a thoughtful smile on her face.
Sam walked over to the two, handing them the picture and drawing. "All right, um, this photo was taken in front of our old house, right? The house where Mom died?" Dean nodded. "And it didn't burn down, right? I mean, not completely, they rebuilt it, right?"
"I guess so, yeah. What the hell are you talkin' about?" The older Winchester frowned, Sam sighing quietly.
"Okay, look, this is gonna sound crazy but....the people who live in our old house— I think they might be in danger."
"Why would you think that?" Jenny tilted her head in confusion as Sam scratched the back of his neck.
"Uh...It's just, um... Look, just trust me on this, okay?" Dean scoffed, shaking his head.
"Come on, man, that's weak. You gotta give me a little bit more than that." Dean frowned.
"I can't really explain it is all."
"Well, tough. I'm not goin' anywhere until you do." Dean spoke as Sam sighed as the two waited expectantly, Jenny crossing her arms onto the table.
"I have these nightmares."
"We've noticed." Jenny commented, leaning back in her seat.
"And sometimes... they come true."
Jenny an Dean's eyes widened, stunned by what Sam had said. "Come again?". Dean leaned forward slightly.
"Look... I dreamt about Jessica's death— for days before it happened."
"Sam, people have weird dreams, man. I'm sure it's just a coincidence." Sam sighed, sitting down on his bed.
"No, I dreamt about the blood dripping, her on the ceiling, the fire, everything, and I didn't do anything about it 'cause I didn't believe it. And now I'm dreaming about that tree, about our house, and about some woman inside screaming for help. I mean, that's where it all started, man, this has to mean something, right?"
Overwhelmed, Jenny and Dean shared a look, shrugging. Sam stood up quickly, walking back over to sit down across from the two. "I don't know." Dean answered, his brother scoffing.
"What do you mean you don't know, Dean? This woman might be in danger. I mean, this might even be the thing that killed Mom and Jessica!" Jenny's eyes widened as she realized Sam had only mentioned two of the deaths caused by the monster, having forgotten they weren't aware she was also a victim of the creature.
"All right, just slow down, would ya?" Dean stood up slowly, pacing as he ran a hand through his hair. "I mean, first you tell me that you've got the Shining? And then you tell me that I've gotta go back home? Especially when..." He trailed off as Jenny frowned.
"When what?" She asked softly, Dean shook his head as a sad look crossed his face.
"When I promised myself I wouldn't go back there?" Jenny and Sam looked at one another.
"Don't you think we should at least check it out, Dean? Just to make sure?" Jenny asked as he looked at her, nodding.

Jenny had fallen asleep in the back of the Impala, Sam was reading through something on his phone, most likely an old text since there was no service around.
Dean glanced over at his brother, frowning when he caught a glimpse of whose name was on the top. "You really reading through her texts?" He spoke up, killing the silence. Sam looked over at his brother quickly, flipping his phone shut.
The younger Winchester cleared his throat. "Looking back on old memories, I guess." Dean hummed, turning back to the road. He looked at Jenny in the rear view mirror, her phone playing the soft tune of Tetris before it finally shut off.
"Are you sure you weren't just... Having a nightmare? You really think these people are in danger?" Dean asked as Sam shrugged.
"Yeah. I do think they are in danger. Besides..." He trailed off, turning around to look at Jenny. "Don't you think she's a bit curious about where it all started?"
"She's never asked. So no, I don't think she's curious." Sam frowned at his brother.
"So, you aren't curious about her upbringing, either? Why she's so terrified to hunt a werewolf?"
"I know why she's scared of them, Sam. That's why I don't ask." Dean gave his brother a harsh look. "If she feels like talking about it, then I'll let her. I'm not going to pressure her into talking about something she doesn't want to talk about."
There was a pause of silence, and Dean frowned. "Why are you even asking?" Sam shrugged at Dean's question.
"I guess I'm just curious. She's not really scared of a lot of things." Dean chuckled as he shook his head, Sam gave him a confused look.
"I've been working cases with her for the last few years, Sam. Trust me, she gets scared. We all do."
"Even Dad?" Dean paused, looking at Sam before nodding.
"Even Dad."

Jenny yawned as she woke up, rubbing her eyes and looked around. "Rise and shine, Jen." Dean smiled from the driver's seat as Jenny shot up quickly, looking out the window.
"Cute house." She complimented, Dean looking over at his old family home. He hummed quietly.
"For the most part." He commented l, the two joining Sam outside the car.
"So... That's the tree." Jenny looked at the large tree that stood in front of the house, Sam nodding.
The three made their way to the front door, Sam knocking on it as Jenny looked around. "I always wanted to know about this place." She spoke, Dean looking at her.
"Well. Welcome." He said in a not-so-enthusiastic voice, the door opening to reveal a short blonde woman. Sam's eyes widened in shock, the woman looking between the three.
"Yes?" She answered in a soft voice, Jenny cleared her throat.
"Hi. Sorry to bother you, ma'am but we're with the Federal—"
"I'm Sam Winchester, this is my brother, Dean, and our friend Jennifer Price." The woman looked at Jenny with an odd look. Sam frowned at her for a moment. "Uh— We used to live here. You know, we were just drivin' by, and we were wondering if we could come see the old place."
"Winchester and- Price, you said?" Sam nodded as the woman hummed. "Yeah, that's so funny. You know, I think I found some of your photos the other night."
"Photos? Wait— what?" Jenny frowned in confusion as the woman nodded.
"Yeah. Some photos I found in a box... Had the names Winchester and Price on them." The trio's eyes widened in bewilderment. The woman stepped to the side, gesturing through the door. "Come on in."
Jenny and Dean shared a confused look as Sam walked in, followed by the older two. For a moment, Jenny paused as she stepped into the house, an odd feeling bubbling up in her stomach and she let out a soft groan, Dean turning to her.
"Jen?"
"I'm okay." She reassured, walking deeper into the house, attempting to ignore the dark feeling that rose inside her.
The blonde woman lead them into the kitchen as Jenny looked around the house slowly, a small smile on her face as she tried to imagine a much younger Dean running around.
"Juice! Juice!" A young voice yelled, grabbing Jenny's attention. A toddler was jumping up and down in a play pen as a young girl was at the table, doing homework.
"That's Ritchie. He's a bit of a juice junkie." The mother grabbed a sippy cup from the fridge, giving it to her son as the other Jenny smiled at the young boy, and stood next to Dean. The woman walked over to her daughter, gesturing to the Winchester's. "Sari, this is Sam, Dean and Jennifer. The two boys used to live here."
"Hi, Sari. I like your name." Jenny complimented as the girl gave her a shy smile.
"So... You just moved here?" Dean asked as the woman nodded.
"Yeah, from Witchita."
"You got family there?" Jenny asked as the woman shook her head.
"No. I just, uh... needed a fresh start, that's all. So, new town, new job— I mean, as soon as I find one. New house.
"So, how you liking it so far?" Sam asked as Jenny looked around again.
"Well, uh, all due respect to your childhood home— I mean, I'm sure you had lots of happy memories here." Dean smiled weakly, though Jenny wasn't sure it was all that true. "But this place has its issues."
Sam frowned, tilting his head. "What do you mean?"
"Well, it's just getting old. Like the wiring, you know? We've got flickering lights almost hourly."
"Oh, that's too bad. What else?" Dean frowned somberly, Jenny pausing to notice a small carving on the walls molding by the kitchen entrance.
"Um... sink's backed up, there's rats in the basement." The woman paused for a moment. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to complain."
Dean shook his head. "No. Have you seen the rats or have you just heard scratching?"
"It's just the scratching, actually."
"Mom?" The woman kneeled down next to her daughter. "Ask them if it was here when they lived here."
"What, Sari?" Sam frowned as the girl turned to him.
"The thing in my closet." She whispered as the hunting trio shared a look.
"Oh, no, baby, there was nothing in their closets." She rubbed her daughters shoulders, looking at the three. "She had a nightmare."
"I wasn't dreaming. It came into my bedroom— and it was on fire." Dean and Sam's eyes widened in shock, Jenny frowned in confusion.
She looked at the two boys, who appeared to have the same expression.

At a gas station, Jenny walked down the aisle of candy, grabbing a pack of gummy sharks. She looked over at Dean, whose hand was shaking as he grabbed a bag of gummy bears. She frowned, taking her hand in his and continued to walk.
"You alright?" She asked quietly as Dean stayed silent, eyes glued to their interlocked hands. Jenny paused, looking up at him. "Dean?"
The two stared at one another for a moment before Dean nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay." He smiled reassuringly, Jenny frowning at him.
"You are a horrible liar." Dean looked away, the two continued walking.
"It's just ... well. What if that thing is back? That killed my mom?" Jenny's expression didn't falter, though her gut was flipping with the nerve to tell Dean the truth. "If it is... We don't know how to kill it."
"We'll figure it out like we always do, Dean." Jenny looked at him, and Dean tensed for a moment. "They don't exactly call you the Winchesters for nothing." Dean rolled his eyes as Jenny snickered at her own joke.
"Never make that joke again." The two bought their food and walked back out to the car, Sam turning to them with a small smirk, noticing that they were still holding hands.
"About time." Sam called out as they frowned at him, eyes widening when they came to the realization and quickly let go of one another. Sam frowned before deadpanning, sighing quietly.
"Okay, well. We had our sad talk, awkward moment, now let's uh— blast some Kansas in Kansas and research what we don't know." Jenny smiled as Sam shrugged and nodded.
"Yeah, I'll just be right back. Bathroom." Dean handed Jenny his Gummy Bears walked away, leaving her and Sam alone.
"So. You've finally gotten to the hand holding stage." Sam joked as she glared at him, throwing the bag of gummy bears at his chest. Sam laughed as Jenny flipped him off.
"You're a bitch." She spat playfully as he hummed.
"Jerk."
"That's you and Dean's thing." She gestured to Dean who had disappeared, and Sam shrugged.
"You know what's not a thing? You and Dean." Jenny scoffed as she slid into the backseat.
"You act like a child."
"A child that's trying to get his best friend and brother to finally admit their feelings for each other." Sam gave her a playful look as she flicked him in the head. "Ow!"
"Trust me, Samurai. If Dean wanted to, he would."
"Oh, trust me, Jenny. He does." Sam laughed as Jenny frowned at him, turning to see Dean walking back to the car.
Captain Sam Winchester of the Denny (Or Jean) Ship is now struggling to make it set sail. Hopefully he fixes the sparks in the loose wires.
