Chapter Thirty-Two

Jenny and Dean walked down a dim hallway, shining their flashlights at the plaques for each door they walked past. Jenny had used her flannel as a sling, which seemed to work for the most part, but now she just had to put her arm back in its place.

"I just have one question." Jenny whispered as Dean turned to her. She faced him slowly with a frown. "Why am I always being tossed around like a Raggedy Anne doll?" Dean looked at the floor as he thought, shrugging.

"Everyone needs a damsel in distress?" He joked as she slapped him gently on the shoulder."Okay, sorry."

"If anything, I'd be the damsel that... Sometimes fights back." Jenny continued walking down the hallway, Dean following. "But I just want to know why every monster we have ever hunted has a fascination with separating me from you and Sam. Do they get a kick out of you guys freaking out?"

"Hey, I do not freak out—"

"Mhm. Keep telling yourself that." She smiled sarcastically at Dean as he scowled at her. Jenny aimed her flashlight at one of the plaques, pausing. "137."

"You found it?" Dean walked over quickly, looking at the number by the door. Jenny went to open the door, pausing when it didn't budge.

Dean then pushed it, hearing something scrape against the floor. The two shoved their way inside as broken furniture crumbled next timo the door. "Love what they've done with the place." Jenny joked as Dean nudged her gently.

"The sarcasm is going to kill me faster than these ghosts will." He complained as Jenny frowned.

"I think my sarcasm is has long-term effect." She smiled, walking into the middle of the room.

Dean walked along the wall, pausing when he noticed a panel out of place. "This is why we get paid the big bucks." Dean joked as Jenny frowned at him.

"We get paid in bruised and scars." Dean paused, stomping to look at her as he held a satchel, deadpanning at Jenny. He shook his head at her, opening the satchel and pulling out loose papers and a journal.

Dean grabbed one of the chairs, sitting down on it as Jenny looked around, noticing it was the only one that looked like it could hold some weight. She glared at the older Winchester, walking over and stood behind him. She leaned down to look over his shoulder at the notes, examining the drawings.

"Well all work and no play makes Dr. Ellicott a very dull boy." Dean chuckled as Jenny hummed in amusement.

A loud thud caused the two to look up quickly, Dean standing up as Jenny patted her back, sighing in disappointment.

"Damn it. I forgot I lost my gun." She spat, the two sharing a look before slowly peeking out of the room, looking around.

"Well. I think we got all we need from 137." Dean said as he waved the journal. Jenny nodded, holding her shoulder before the two walked out and down the hall.

"After this. I'm getting a drink... or three." Jenny mumbled, frowning. "But... after I slam my arm back into place." Dean chuckled as he nodded in understanding.

"Yeah. I could probably use a damn drink t—" Dean froze as a loud pop went off, throwing himself and Jenny behind the wall they barely walked past. Jenny winced in pain as he slammed into her shoulder, Dean apologizing quietly.

"Don't shoot us!" Dean yelled from behind the wall.

"Sorry!" Jenny and Dean frowned as they barely recognized the voice, peeking out from the wall. Dean looked at the marks left from the shotgun, eyes wide.

"What the bell are you two still doing here? Where's Sam?" Dean asked as Kat and Gavin shared a look.

"He went to the basement. You called him?" Gavin frowned as Dean and Jenny shared a look of confusion.

"I didn't call anybody." Dean said and Kat nodded.

"Someone called and he said it was you."

"Basement, huh?" Dean walked over to his bag, pulling out a few more weapons as Jenny started to walk over. "Ey. No." Dean pointed at the woman, who gave him a shocked look. "Don't look at me like that."

"Are you trying to bench me or some shit?" She frowned as Dean stood up, nodding as he gestured to the sling on her shoulder. Jenny rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"Sorry, Jennifer. You've already been hurt this week." Jenny frowned at Dean's use of her full name, shaking her head.

"Dean, I'm fine— Ow!" Jenny groaned in pain as Dean grabbed her injured arm, and she looked away in annoyance.

"Really? Fine? Stay here with these two, Jen." Dean walked off, rounding the corner they had just come from. Jenny slowly turned back to Gavin and Kat, who gave her a suspicious look.

"Are you two—"

"Jesus Christ everyone says that!" She yelled, facing the wall and rested her head against it. Kat and Gavin shared a look, then turned back to Jenny.

"So... That's a no?" Kat raised a brow as the older woman slowly turned her head to them.

"It's... Complicated."

"Complicated? Have you seen the way he looks at you?" Kat frowned l, gesturing to where Dean had just left. "Or how you look at him. Jeez, it's like watching my dad stare at meatloaf." Gavin nodded in agreement.

"Her dad really likes meatloaf." Jenny rolled her eyes, sliding against the wall and sat down. "So... If you guys like each other so much... Why aren't you together?"

"Trust me, over the last few weeks we've been trying to build up to that part. But it's like— Like everything in our lives is stopping us right before it gets to the good part." Jenny fell silent for a moment, taking in a sharp breath. "I don't get very close to people in case something happens to them."

"Then why are you with them?" Gavin asked as Jenny shrugged.

"They're all I've got." She smiled softly, looking at the two. "I don't think either of you two will understand this sort of pain until... Well, you're older. When it's the right person, and everyone thinks so... But it's always the wrong time." The two teenagers shared a look before Kat walked over, sitting next to Jenny.

"In my opinion. It's never the wrong time to be with someone you love." Jenny scoffed a smile and shook her head, staring at her knees. "If you want to be with Dean, then do something about it."

Jenny looked at the young girl and gave her a lopsided smile. Jenny suddenly whipped around at the sound of a gun going off, looking at Gavin and Kat before standing up.

"Stay here." She ordered, grabbing a shotgun as Kat's eyes widened.

"But Dean said—"

"Oh who cares what he says, huh? I've killed a vampire with a broken arm!" Jenny ran off, leaving the teenagers as she searched for the basement.

Jenny almost tumbled down the stairs as she had discovered the basement, spitting Sam standing in front of a broken door. Jenny's eyes widened when she spotted Dean, unconscious.

"Sam what did you do?!" Jenny yelled as Sam turned around slowly. Her eyes widened at his bloody nose, aiming the shotgun at her. She took a step forward, gripping her shotgun in her free hand. "Sam..."

"Don't take another step, Jenny." Sam ordered, fixing his handle in the gun. Jenny frowned at him.

"Ellicott is doing this, right?" She asked, stating frozen in her spot. Sam said nothing for a moment.

"You just always come running when something sounds bad, don't you? You can't listen when Dean or I tell you to do one simple thing." Jenny gave the young Winchester a baffled look. She clenched her jaw, tightening her grip on the shotgun.

"I guess that's always been the problem with you. Can't listen. Can't stay unharmed for more than a week. You're always running into danger before thinking. Have you ever thought about how Dean woukd feel, how I would feel if you got killed?" Sam stepped forward, still aiming the gun at Jenny.

"I do it to make sure you guys aren't the ones getting hurt." Jenny answered through clenched teeth, Sam shook his head.

"No. You do it so you won't loose us. It's pathetic how alike you and Dean are. You can't fathom a world without me and him. He can't possibly imagine a world without you and me. You two are selfish." Jenny shook her head as she forced the tears back.

"It's Ellicott playing with your head, Sam. You don't actually mean all of that?"

"I mean every word I say. If Dean were to die, you'd do everything you can to make sure who killed him suffered. And then you'd try and bring him back because he and I are all you got." Jenny sucked in a sharp breath and stepped forward. Sam cocked the gun in his hands.

"That's how you truly think of me?" Sam paused, looking at her up and down.

"I think you're the type of person that would follow Dean around like a lost puppy, because it doesn't have a real home to go to." Sam took another step forward. "The type of person that ignores all the signs they are going after the wrong person." Jenny frowned in confusion as Sam dropped his gun.

As she attempted to step back, Sam grabbed Jenny's face, forcing her into a kiss. Her eyes went wide with shock and she kneed the Winchester in the dick, causing him to fall down in pain.

"Jesus Christ!" Jenny spat as she stepped back. Sam grabbed her leg, yanking her. Jenny fell back, her head slamming into the ground, knocking her out.

Sam huffed in pain and stood up slowly, grabbing his gun and walked back over to Dean, who gasped as he woke up.

"Sam." Dean breathed, looking up at his brother. He looked over, eyes widening as he saw Jenny, unconscious on the cement. "Jen?"

"Oh, she's fine." Sam scoffed as Dean slowly stood up, glaring at his brother.

"What did you do?" Sam only smiled viciously.

"At least she got to kiss a Winchester. Even if it wasn't the one she meant to kiss." Dean's eyes widened with rage, fighting everything in him to not lurch himself at his brother.

"We gotta burn Ellicott's bones and all this will be over, and you'll be back to normal."

"I am normal. I'm just telling the truth for the first time. I mean, why are we even here? 'Cause you're following Dad's orders like a good little solider? Because you always do what he says without question? Are you that desperate for his approval?"

"This isn't you talking, Sam."

"That's the difference between you and me. I have a mind of my own. I'm not pathetic, like you."

"So what are you gunna do, huh? Are you gunna kill me? What would Jen think if you did?"Sam shook his head, raising his brows.

"It doesn't matter what Jennifer thinks. She'll think it was Ellicott. Say it's not my fault. But it's all me doing this. And... You know what? I am sick of doing what you telling me to do. We're no closer to finding Dad today than we were six months ago."

"Well, then here. Let me make it easier for you." Dean reached behind his back, slowly pulling out his gun and handed it out to Sam. "Real bullets work a hell of a better than rock salt." Sam hesitated, staring at the gun. "Take it!"

Sam grabbed the gun from his brother's hand, aiming it at his face. "You hate me that much? You think you could kill your own brother? Then go ahead." Sam hesitated again. "Pull the trigger. Do it!"

Sam pulled the trigger. A clink echoed in the room, but nothing too loud. Dean was still standing. Sam pulled the trigger two more times. Nothing.

Dean punched his brother square in the jaw, the gun flying out of his hand as the younger Winchester fell to the ground. "That was for actually going through with it. You really think I'd give you a loaded pistol?!"

Dean slammed his fist into Sam's face again, knocking his brother out and almost falling with how hard he had struck him. "And that's for kissing Jenny."

Dean whipped around at the sound of coughing, seeing Jenny stir as she began to wake up. "Ooooh that hurts." She groaned, holding the back of her head with her unharmed arm.

"Jen—" Dean rushed over to her, helping her sit up. "I told you to—"

"Yeah yeah I know.. I heard a gunshot and— Well now I wish I chose to stay upstairs." She smiled awkwardly as Dean nodded unnoticeably.

"Yeah... Me, too." He grumbled, leading her to the stairs. "I'm going to find the douches body. Stay." Jenny waved her hand, watching Dean walk back into the other room.

After a moment or two, the loud clang of a something crashing alerted Jenny and she stood up quickly.

"Dean?!" She grabbed her shotgun from the floor, rushing into the room and jumped over the unconscious Sam, only to see Dr. Ellicott crumble as his remains were burned by Dean. She dropped her arm in relief, turning to see Sam start to Sam start to wake up.

Sam flexed his jaw painfully, looking at the two. His eyes widened nervously as Jenny glared at him, along with Dean.

"You aren't going to try and kill me, are you?" Dean asked as Sam shook his head, rubbing his jaw.

"Or kiss me?" Jenny asked as Sam looked away.

✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧

Jenny and Sam stood off to the side as Dean talked to Ka and Gavin. The two had been in an awkward silence for the moment, Jenny clearing her throat.

"Jenny look I'm really—"

"I know."

"You know I wouldn't do that without—"

"I know."

"Can you stop interrupting me?" Sam frowned as she finally looked at him. "I'm sorry. Really... really sorry. I wouldn't have done something like that to you, Jenny."

She only nodded slowly. "Are you... Going to say anything?" Jenny sighed quietly, shoving her hands in her pockets.

"I love you, Sam. I dot, but... It's more of a brotherly love." Sam pressed his lips together awkwardly, nodding. "Look, I'm not going to leave because of something you literally had zero control over. I don't hate you for kissing me, even though I didn't like it." The two stayed quiet for a minute and Jenny took in a sharp breath. "But, you were right. You guys... plus Bobby... You're all I got. And if I left you two... I don't know what I'd do. Hunting wouldn't feel as exciting without you guys. And if you haven't noticed..." Jenny raised her injured arm up, chuckling softly. "It's probably best I stick with a partner or two."

Sam couldn't help but laugh with Jenny, who dropped her arm back down. "And yeah. Maybe I am a little stupid for risking my own life to make sure you guys are safe... But that's all that matters to me. Knowing that you guys are at least decently safe is what gets me to sleep." Sam smiled softly as the two embraced, Jenny rubbing Sam's back. "I forgive you, Sam."

"Thanks. I'm still sorry." Jenny hummed as they walked over to Dean.

"Be as sorry as you want. You do it again, I'll punch you to Australia." She gave Sam a serious look as he smiled awkwardly, nodding.

"You got it."
