Chapter Fifty-Eight
"you just have to surround yourself with people who have the sam heart as you." - Courtney Peppernell
Michael held up the office phone in a threatening stance, finger hovering over a 9. "You're crazy! Just go away or I'm calling the cops!" He yelled as Jenny raised her hands to Michael.
"Michael, you gotta believe us, okay?" She pleaded, but he shook his head.
"This thing came through the window and it attacked your brother. I've seen it. I know what it looks like. Cause it attacked my brother once, too." Dean spoke up, Michael turning his attention to the older Winchester.
He slowly lowered the phone. "This thing...is it... like... it has this long... black robe?" Jenny's eyes widened and she nodded quickly.
"You saw it last night didn't you?" She asked. Michael looked down for a moment.
"I thought I was having a nightmare."
"I'd give anything not to tell you this, but sometimes nightmares are real." Dean tried to smile, but it faltered.
"So, why are you telling me?"
"Because we need your help." Jenny gave him an attempt at a comforting smile, the little boys eyes widened.
"My help?"
"We can kill it. Me her and him, that's what we do. But we can't do it without you." Dean said, and the boy shook his head again.
"What? No!"
"Michael, listen to me. This thing hurt Asher. And it's gonna keep hurting kids unless we stop it, understand me?" Michael looked between the three hunters before shaking his head and running to the back. Jenny, Sam and Dean sighed in defeat, slowly walking out.
After getting back in their motel room, Dean sighed again, loudly. "Well that went crappy."
"What did you expect? You can't ask a adult to do something like that, much less a kid." A knock at their door alerted the three, Jenny standing up quickly. Dean slowly approached the door, opening it to see Michael.
"If you kill it, will Asher get better?" He asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.
"We don't know." Dean answered honestly, shrugging.
"You said you were a big brother." Michael mentioned, looking at Dean.
Dean nodded slowly, looking over at Sam.
"You'd take care of your little brother? You'd do anything for him?" He nodded again.
"Yeah... I would."
"Me too. I'll help."

Jenny sat at the edge of Michael's bed as she watched Dean finish hooking up a security camera, staring into the lens. Sam was in another room, watching as his brother set it up.
"This camera has night vision on it so we'll be able to see clear as day." Dean said, raising his voice for Sam to hear. "Are we good?"
"A little more to the right!" Sam called out, Dean adjusting it. "Okay, you're good!"
Jenny turned to Michael, smiling softly. "We'll be just in the other side of the door. Don't worry, I'll make sure you'll be okay." She promised, Michael nodding slowly. "Make sure to stay under these covers, alright?" Jenny patted the blanket, Michael nodding again.
"What do I do when it gets here?" Michael's asked softly, Dean looking back at Jenny and the little boy.
"When we get in here, we'll have guns. I want you to duck under your bed."
"What if you shoot me?" Michael spoke in a worried tone, Jenny shaking her head.
"We won't shoot until we know you're clear, alright? Don't come out until one of us says you're okay. You ever hear a gun before?"
"Only in movies..." Dean chuckled softly.
"It's gonna be a lot louder than in the movies. So I want you to stay under the bed, cover your ears." Dean gestured to his ears as the little boy nodded in understanding. "Michael, you sure you want to do this?" The boy didn't answer. "You know you don't have to, we won't be mad."
"No, i'm okay. Just don't shoot me." Jenny and Dean smiled softly, nodding.
Jenny's smile slowly dropped as she turned to Dean, then my back to Michael. "We won't let anything happen to you." She stood up, following Dean out of Michael's room and shut the door.
"You're good with that kid, y'know?" Dean spoke in a hushed tone, Jenny leaning against the wall for a moment. "You'd be a good mom."
Jenny smiled at the compliment, faltering for a moment. "I like to think I would be." The two walked into the other room, Sam staring at the computer.
"What time is it?" Dean asked, walking over to watch the camera. Sam looked at the clock on the wall.
"Almost three. You sure these iron rounds are gonna work?" Dean nodded, Jenny rocking back and forth nervously.
"Consecrated iron rounds, and yeah it's what Dad used last time." Dean mentioned as Jenny walked over to them to watch the camera.
"Hey, Dean, I'm sorry." Sam spoke up, his brother looking down at him.
"For what?"
"You know, I've really given you a lot of crap, for always following Dad's orders. But I know why you do it."
"Oh, god, kill me now." Dean mumbled as Sam and Jenny laughed, the three sitting in silence for a moment. Dean looked back at the camera. "Wait, look."
Movement from outside of Michael's window caused the three Hunters to lean forward, watching as the Shtriga slid it open. "Now?" Sam asked, Dean shaking his head.
Jenny watched Michael with an intense stare, noticing how frozen in fear he was as the Shtriga moved closer to him. She grabbed her gun quickly, rushing out of the room, Sam and Dean following quickly after.
Jenny swung the door open as the Shtriga started to draw out Michael's energy, cocking her gun. "Hey!" Dean yelled, startling the monster.
"Michael get down!" The boy rolled off and under his bed, the Hunters starting to open fire onto the Shtriga. After a moment, it paused before falling to the ground.
"Mike, you all right?" Dean asked, waiting for the boys response.
"Yeah." He answered, still under the bed.
"Just sit tight." Dean said as he approached the shtriga, still aiming his gun at jt. The shtriga didn't move and the three relaxed slightly. Dean turned to glance at Sam and Jenny before shtriga suddenly rose, grabbing Dean by the throat and throwing him against the wall.
"Dean!" Sam and Jenny yelled as the Shtriga moved towards them. Jenny went to shoot it again before being chucked into Michael's dresser, hitting the ground with a hard thud and a loud groan.
The shtriga moved to Sam, throwing him against a wall. It grabbed the younger Einchester by the throat, opening its mouth and started to suck at his energy.
"Hey!" The shtriga turned to Dean, who then shot it right between the eyes. It dropped Sam and fell to the ground, Sam gasping for breath as Jenny sat up, rubbing her shoulder.
"You two okay?" Dean looked between Jenny and Sam, both nodding. Sam unsteadily held up two thumbs, getting to his feet. Jenny looked under Michael's bed, seeing he had his eyes glued shut and his ears covered. Three more gunshots startled both Jenny and Michael, turning ti see Dean aiming his gun at the Shtriga, which then disintegrated.
Michael opened his eyes slowly, looking at Jenny. "It's okay. You can come out now." Michael took Jenny's hand, who then pulled him out from under the bed. "You sure you're okay?" He nodded, hugging her tightly.
"Thank you." He mumbled, Jenny hesitating to hug the little boy back.

Jenny tossed her duffel bag in the trunk of the Impala, slamming it shut as Joanna walked over. "Hey, Joanna. How's Asher doing?" Dean asked as she smiled.
"Have you seen Michael?" She asked just as her son came running up to her, and hugged him. "Hey!"
"How's Ash?" The little boy asked, his mother grinning.
"Got some good news. Your brother's gonna fine."
Michael mimicked her grin. "Really?!"
"Yeah. Really. No one can explain it— it's a miracle. They're going to keep him in overnight for observation and then he's coming home."
"That's great to hear." Jenny smiled, and Joanna nodded in agreement.
"How are all the other kids doing?" Sam mentioned, and the mother shrugged
"Good. Real good. A bunch of them should be checking out in a few days. Dr. Travis says the ward's going to be like a ghost town."
"Dr. Travis? What about Dr. Hydecker?" Sam frowned, looking at Dean and Jenny.
"Oh he wasn't in today. Must have been sick or something."
"Yeah. Yeah must have." Dean mumbled, scratching the back of his neck.
"So, did anything happen while I was gone?" Joanna asked, looking down at her son.
Michael glanced at Dean and Jenny. "Nah, same old stuff." He lied, Jenny smiling and giving him a wink. Michael attempted to mimic her, but only blinked harshly.
"Ok. You can go see Ash."
"Now?" Michael spoke excitedly, turning to Dean, who smiled
"Only if you want to." Michael beamed, sprinting to his moms car as Joanna let out a soft laugh. "I, ah, I'd better get going before he hotwires the car and drives himself." The four chuckled before Joanna walked off to her car.
"It's too bad." Sam spoke up, looking at Michael, who waited in the car impatiently.
"Oh, they'll be fine." Jenny waved goodbye to Michael and Joanna as they got in their car.
"That's not what I meant. I meant Michael. He'll always know there are things out there in the dark -- he'll never be the same, you know?" There was a long pause between the three. "Sometimes I wish that..." He trialed off for a moment.
"What?" Dean turned to his little brother.
"I wish I could have that kinda innocence." Sam sighed softly.
"If it means anything, sometimes I wish you could, too." Dean answered slowly, watching Joanna and Michael drive off.
They all exchanged a look. Dean climbed in the car and started the engine, Sam and Jenny following and they pull out of the motel car park and back onto the freeway.
Can you imagine if I had the motivation to write up to 13 SPN books so we could have Jenny and Jack.. Omg their relationship would be absolutely everything. Now I want to but I know I won't.
Anyways the book is almost finished! Only four more episodes 🥲 i have so many plans for the later seasons that i actually might just write the entire series... but what would it be called—
Anyways Dean saying that Jenny would be a good mom broke my heart a bit bc she knows she would never be able to raise a kid without the possibility of a monster coming after her. Anyways... hope you enjoyed the chapter 😻
