Personality: Derek is very serious and can come off as tough and emotionless.  He is all business and purposely keeps his emotions out of the way when he fights so that nothing distracts him though he still cares about people.  He might not show it but he has a lot of love and respect for the kids he teaches.  He's the type of person that shows tough love to help others.  He can be cold and sometimes even distant but he will never give up.  Very rarely there is a fun side that comes out and he might crack a joke or two or even become sarcastic just to get a laugh.  This behavior is really rare for him but it's not impossible to see.  Ever since "the incident" he hasn't been the same.  This is most of the reason why he is so serious now.  He doesn't like getting off track of the mission or not focusing on the overall goal of the BSC which is too win the war and free mankind.

Powers/Abilities: He has a slightly enhanced healing factor (maybe like half as enhanced as normal vampires) and excellent fighting skills.  He was trained by the BSC but after an incident he trained harder than ever before.  He one of the best officers in the BSC.

Weapons: He uses a sniper rifle when he's sniping and a great sword when he's fighting on the ground.

Background: Derek had an overall great life until the virus broke out and the war started.  He was immune but his parents weren't.  He watched them die that day and had been surviving alone ever since.  He was struggling until people from the BSC found him.  They took him in and trained him.  He was a quick learner and quickly rose through the ranks the longer he trained.  One day he was on a mission with his squad.  It was supposed to be an easy mission with just a few soldiers in the area.  The problem was that it was a trap set by vampire officers.  The squad fought as hard as possible and were almost successful until one specific officer, Azazel, came out of no where.  He slaughtered Derek's closest friends one by one and stopped at a wounded Derek.  He just gave a smirk before raising his weapon to finish him.  That's when Max ran in and blocked the attack, fending Azazel off and rescuing Derek.  Derek was brought back to the BSC where, along with his healing factor, he was able to recover pretty quickly though he wasn't the same.  Since that day he hasn't stopped training to one day defeat Azazel.  He lost a bit of himself that day and he'll never be the same but he does want to get past it.  Since he came back from that mission he has stayed solo, but teaches recruits.  He trains the kids and makes sure they're prepared to fight before they actually join a squad and go on missions.  Really he's like a father figure to most because as tough as he is, he really cares about all of them.

Fears: Messing up on the field and costing someone their life again, not being able to save the people he cares about, and the vampires winning the war.

Strengths: He's very determined, he's an amazing fighter, he has excellent aim, he can kill vampires before they even know he's there, and he is very intimidating so others will listen to him and the orders he gives.

Weaknesses:  He is willing to sacrifice himself for others not matter what the situation (Which could also be a strength),

Likes: Keeping everyone safe, teaching kids how to defend themselves and fight, sniping, people listening to his orders, sometimes the BSC superiors, and going on missions with the kids he has trained.

Dislikes: Vampires, those he cares about getting hurt, thinking about what happened in his past, not being able to do anything to save people, and sometimes the superiors in the BSC.

Other: He hated Max at first even after he saved his life, because he knew he was a vampire.  He partially blamed him for not saving anyone else but he has come to terms with the fact that no one else from his group could have been saved and it wasn't Max's fault that they died.  He's grown to actually have a soft spot for the boy and isn't as harsh as he used to be.  He treats him like he would any other kid in the BSC.
