If I didn't already have enough questions about Shoto Todoroki, I definitely did now.
He could read minds.
He could probably read minds.
As soon as I got upstairs I went straight to my computer, pulling up a search engine.
I spent about twenty minutes just looking up as much as I could find on "mind reading", "mind readers", and "psychics".
To no one's surprise, I didn't find much useful information. It was mainly just ads anyway.
Next I grabbed out the book I was almost assaulted to obtain. Flipping through it didn't seem too promising and I almost threw it across my room.
But then I found exactly what I was looking for. The wolf legend.
It told me pretty much everything Kacchan had already covered, with one difference.
Instead of the Aizawas being in the story, the enemy clan was simply referred to as 'the cold ones'.
Bingo.
With that one term in my search bar, I got instant results.
The next half hour seemed to go by in a blur, only key words and phrases standing out to me.
Immortal.
Cold-blooded.
Blood thirsty.
Everything was flashing past me as my fingers moved almost too fast for my computer to keep up with.
Then I found my answer.
With a gasp, I slammed my computer closed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I barely slept that night, my mind racing with that one word.
There was an urgent need to speak with Todoroki that forced me to wait outside for him that fateful morning.
It was like he was expecting it. We made eye contact and that was all it took for him to follow after me into the woods.
With the knowledge I had at that point, most sane people would think I was the biggest idiot on the planet, even more so than a white girl in a horror movie.
I would even agree under any other circumstances, but this was different.
It was Todoroki. For some God forsaken reason, I knew he wouldn't hurt me.
I trusted him.
"You're incredibly strong," I started once I knew we were far enough from the school.
"Impossibly fast. Your skin is pale white and ice cold. Your eyes change color."
I could hear his footsteps behind me, getting closer. I took a deep breath before continuing.
"You never eat or drink, or go out in the sunlight. You only said no to the beach trip after you found out where it was. Because of the treaty."
The last reason must have surprised him, because he took a final step, closing the gap between us. I could feel him there, just barely pressed against my back.
"How old are you?" I asked in a murmur.
"Seventeen."
"How long have you been seventeen?"
A brief pause.
"A while," but the words were strained.
I took a deep breath, preparing myself. I was about to cross the line. I knew everything would change after this.
For better or worse.
"I know what you are."
He leaned even closer to me, he could have rested his chin on my shoulder if he had wanted. Instead I could feel his cold breath against my cheek as he ordered, "Say it. Out loud."
I swallowed hard.
"Vampire..." I whispered in answer.
"Are you afraid?"
I didn't trust my voice, but I couldn't move my head with him so close.
"No," I said, my voice shaking.
"Then ask me the most basic question," he said, his voice taking on a harsh tone. He was mad.
"What do we eat?"
He moved back a fraction. I was able to spin around to face him now.
I shook my head as I said "You won't hurt me. I know you won't."
Todoroki let out a sudden and cold laugh. "You think you know me?"
After a brief moment of contemplation, he took hold of my hand. He started to drag me behind as he marched through the trees.
"Where are we going?" I asked, trying to hide the panic from my voice. I knew he wouldn't hurt me, but that didn't mean I was completely relaxed.
"There's something you need to see."
His grip wasn't bruising, but the force he pulled me along with was. I could barely keep up, tripping over every branch or root as we went.
Eventually he seemed to get annoyed with my utterly uncoordinated human limbs, scooping me up in his arms. He took off at a run, zipping through the trees at a speed I could only achieve in my wildest dreams.
Not that I regularly dreamt of running.
I held onto him as tight as I could. There were more than a few times where he'd jump to avoid something and I was sure I'd be thrown from his arms.
But his grip never wavered. I stayed safe and secure.
One we reached the top of the mountain, he set me down. I only had enough time to steady myself before he shot off again, this time only a few feet away.
There was a break in the fog and trees, leaving a small sliver of open sunlight. Todoroki was heading straight towards it.
I'm not sure what anyone else would think, but all of the vampire stories I had heard during my short life span said that sunlight was fatal to them.
"Wait!" I called out, worried he was going to hurt himself.
He didn't listen, stepping into the sun after unbuttoning his shirt. He didn't burst into flames, so I assumed that was a myth.
Slowly turning towards me, I gasped as I finally caught sight of what he wanted to show me.
His skin was glowing, sparkling in the light.
"This is why we can't show ourselves in the sun. People would know we were different," he explained. He stood there expectantly.
"You're... beautiful." I mumbled.
Way to go, Izuku. That didn't sound gay at all.
"I'm... what?" It looked as if he might laugh at me again. "This is the skin of a killer, Midoriya."
Todoroki jumped down to the forest floor again, buttoning his shirt as he walked towards me.
"I don't believe that," I said defiantly.
He shook his head at me. "That's because you believe the camouflage. I'm the world's most dangerous predator. Everything about me invites you in."
He stepped closer, invading my space as he did earlier. He circled me like a shark.
"My voice. My face. Even my scent."
My breathing shuttered from his proximity.
He scoffed and stopped in front of me, "As if I'd need any of that."
Todoroki took off, so fast I only see where he comes to a stop.
"As if you could outrun me. As if you could fight me off." He ripped a hanging root out from the ground, throwing it against a tree. I jumped as it splintered apart.
"I'm designed to kill." He said in a low voice, suddenly in front of me again.
I shook my head, "I don't care."
"You should."
"I trust you, Todoroki, " I said, holding my ground.
He lifted a hand, as if to push hair from my face, but stalled in the air. "I wanted to kill you. I've never wanted to kill a human so bad. I'm a threat to you."
I grabbed his head from where it was frozen and brought it to rest against my cheek. "I trust you, Shoto."
