Guilty!Will

"I failed." I mumbled, sitting on the counter in the break to of the infirmary. "I, I failed," I repeated, hands making their way up, twisting roughly into my gold curls. "I failed! I failed them!" I was sobbing now, and didn't notice my boyfriend appear from the shadows.
"Will,"
I jolted, a noise of surprise escaping me. Nico walked forward, taking my hands in his, palm up. I tried yanking my wrists back from his grasp, but he held in tightly.
"Let go Nico! I, I,"
Nico looked at me, and for the first. time, I noticed a new gentle expression on his face. Not sympathy, but empathy.
"I know Will. Believe me, I know. I thought that I failed the living too, the first thousand times I felt their souls leave them, taken away by Thanatos, and brought to my father, in the realm of the dead. But I realized, long ago, back just after I was an ignorant tween, and thought I could bring back the dead, that I couldn't. Death is not something that can be reversed, or prevented. Only slowed, but never, stopped."
Nico dropped my wrists, but before he could leave, I gripped the sides of his face, and pulled him into a deep kiss, my mouth immediately bombarded with the taste of dark chocolate, and I sighed in content.
"Thank you," I whispered after pulling away. "I needed to hear that."
Nico nodded, a small smile playing at his lips. "I love you Sunshine. And I'll always be here for you."
I hugged him tightly, kissing his check. "I love you too, Darling. And I'll be here for you too."
He pressed a quick kiss to my lips, before he tugged me off the counter top, and into a warm hug. I held him tightly, leaning down to bury my head in his unruly black hair, breathing in the scent of pomegranates.

We just stood there until I was called back to work. Pecking his lips, I grinned, and rushed out the door, delighting in the chuckle I got from my boyfriend.
This time, I'll do it right, because I don't feel this is it for my patient. Her soul will be staying with her, for a long, long, time.
