Home Is Where The Heart Is

"I'm heading out." Will came and stood behind his husband who was busy at the counter making breakfast.

"Already?" Nico turned adjusted Will's tie. "You sure you don't want to wait for breakfast?"

Will leaned down and met his lips with his own. "I'm a guest speaker, I can't exactly blow it off, as much as I want to." He hated seeing the flash of sadness that would briefly cross his husband's face whenever he spent all week away at a conference. It was unavoidable, but he hated leaving his family for that long. "I'm sorry, but this weekend I'm all your's and Cassie's."

"Promise?"

Will kissed him once more, trying to delay the inevitable for as long as he dared. "Promise. I've already booked the days off work."

Nico poured coffee, one in a mug, one in a travel cup and sent Will on his way. He had just sat down to eat his breakfast when a sharp scream cut through the house. He bit back a groan of frustration before reluctantly getting up from his seat and heading for the nursery. "Hey baby girl," he cooed, scooping up his daughter from her crib and cradling her in one of his arms before heading back into the kitchen to warm up a bottle of formula. "You just missed daddy, sorry vita mia.

Casslin continued to scream her lungs out, only stopping once the bottle was placed against her lips and she started drinking. "Baby, please don't do this today," Nico begged, exhaustion overwhelming. The past week had been spent trying to get her to sleep at night to no avail. He had been tempted to take her to the pediatrician, but Will couldn't see anything wrong with her. He wasn't sure how much more crying he could handle before he lost his mind, especially since he was on his own this week.

The bottle was finished and she kept screaming louder than should have been possible with her tiny lungs. Nico was trying to keep his tears away too. "Oh vita mia. It's okay darling, it's okay." He spent three hours walking around the house singing, trying to get her to calm down, breakfast sitting on the table cold. His phone rang.

"Hello?" He picked up the phone, putting her daughter in her crib and closing the door to let her cry it out on her own. He went into his room and shut the door so it was quiet enough to hear the person on the other end.

"She still isn't settling down?" Will's voice was filled with concern.

"Only stops when I'm feeding her." It was getting really hard not to let out some tears himself. "I hate seeing her like this."

"She isn't teething yet, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to bring her into the office if she's still like this in a few days. How are you doing?"

"I miss you. I need sleep. I can't wait for this weekend." Nico closed his eyes and ran his hand through his hair, closing his eyes.

"Maybe you should call Hazel, you could do with a few hours off, love."

Nico mumbled a non-commital reply. That was the last thing he wanted to do, it would be like accepting defeat.

"Love, you need to sleep. Doctor's orders." Will was using his no-nonsense voice he used on his patients.

"I know."

"Listen, I love you and you can do this."

"I love you too."

"Just five days, and I'll be home."

Nico hung up the phone, feeling a little better. Until Casslin started screaming louder.

Nico was currently passed out on the rocking chair, Cass in his arms, content with a soother for the moment. His phone rang, making her cry again. "What?" Nico was too tired to filter the grumpiness out of his voice. He was not at all impressed with whoever phoned and started Cass up again.

"I talked to Lewis today, Dr. Ortega, and he can fit you in tomorrow at two."

"Will,"

"Non-negotiable. He's under strict instruction to break down the door if you don't show up."

"I look like crap, I haven't slept more than an hour or two in the past week and a half."

"You always look beautiful. I love you, darling."

"I love you too amore. Two more days."

"I couldn't find any health issues, but I suggest trying Melatonin, just to see if we can get her to sleep easier. I have a bottle here, and I'll write down dosages for you." Dr. Ortega grabbed a pad of yellow paper and scribbled something down before tearing it off and taping it to a small bottle. "If you have any questions Will can't answer, don't hesitate to call or pop by the office."

"Thank you so much." Nico stood, shaking his hand, holding Cassie's car seat in the other. When he left the building he texted Will to call him when he got the chance, but that she was perfectly healthy so don't even tink about worrying and just focus on your presentation.

Will phoned and Nico picked up. "Hey babe."

"Are you driving? I can call back."

"I'm on hands-free. Cass has finally fallen asleep so I'll just drive around town for a while."

"What did Lewis say?"

"She doesn't have any health issues, she just hates me." Nico winced as his voice cracked with emotion.

"Love, you know that's not true, you are an amazing Papa."

"I know, it's just, hard not to take it personally." He flipped his turn signal and pulled over, wiping a tear that was making its way down his cheek. "I'm sorry, you shouldn't have to worry about this while you're gone for work. He gave us some Melatonin to try tonight so things will hopefully get better."

"Hey, listen to me," Will said soothingly. "You and Cass are my first priority, always. You understand that, right? I love you, I'll be home tomorrow. Just hang in one more night."Sorry, I'm just exhausted. What time is your flight tomorrow?"

"I'll be home by noon. Just a few short hours away."

Nico woke up to a smiling Will holding a tray with pancakes and fruit. "What are you doing home already?" Nico leaned forward to kiss him, not caring about morning breath. "I missed you, amore."

"I managed to find someone at the conference willing to trade tickets with me so I could get home sooner. Hazel is taking Casslin for the day, and I have you all to myself." Will leaned in for a kiss before putting a strawberry in his mouth instead. "Eat up!"

"Tease," Nico mumbled before grabbing his plate and digging in.

Once they were finished Will brought the dishes to the kitchen before crawling into bed and curling up against his husband, burying his nose in his hair. "You're incredible, you know that?"

"You're not so bad yourself," Nico whispered before falling back asleep listening to Will's heartbeat.

(A/N: You guys should thank @Fall_Out_Girl_16 for this nice little family oneshot instead of the one without a happy ending I was going to write tonight. I'll just save that for next time. Not going to lie, I'm tempted to add another oneshot book just for my happy little Solangelo family oneshots, but I'm lazy and don't feel like making another cover so I'l probably just leave them sprinkled throughout this one)
