Parents Day at Camp Half- Blood
Hello! Super super sorry about not updating, but here it is! I decided to publish my first ever fan fic I wrote when I was ten. It's full of cringe and bad writing, so feel free to judge. It's not Solangelo and it takes place right after the war with the giants, so I'll apologize ahead of time for the pathetic lack of fluff. Also, read my friend floralmindset's book of poems, which are very good. Anyway, enjoy!
Percy's POV
I was sitting with Tyson outside of my cabin, waiting for Poseidon to show up. Most of the gods and goddesses were already there, but then again my dad was coming from the bottom of the sea, so being late was fine.
I gazed around the U of cabins, where demigods clustered around their godly parents. The Hephaestus cabin was gathered around a big, burly man who, I knew, was Hephaestus. His hands were fiddling around with a piece of wire, and his beard kept catching fire. I noticed Aphrodite teaching her kids how to always get your good side in a picture. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Hermes leading Connor, Travis, and the rest of the cabin in a raid of the camp store. I heard a thwack somewhere to my left. The source of the noise was the Ares cabin throwing darts at a picture on the side of the cabin. I took a closer look and saw that the picture was of me. Then, Apollo and his cabin got into a fight with Ares and his cabin about how to get the best aim. It was starting to get ugly, so I looked over to the Athena cabin.
Annabeth and a bunch of her blonde, grey eyed siblings were watching a woman who could always be Athena solve impossible looking algorithms. Annabeth glanced over and caught my eye. I knew that she was wishing that she could call me "seaweed brain". I was about to grin back when Mr. D, our camp counselor, came sauntering over to Tyson and me.
"Well, Peter."
"Percy," I corrected.
"Where's old barnacle beard? Didn't care enough to come? Even Zeus found time to come." I looked over, and he was right. Thalia, daughter of Zeus and hunter of Artemis, was deep in conversation with her dad. The rest of the hunters, no doubt, were hunting in the forest with Artemis. I was about to retort when a great gush of water rose up from Long Island Sound. The gush of water carried a man with black hair and sea green eyes. it deposited him in front of my cabin.
"You were saying, Dionysus," Poseidon said.
"Nothing, nothing," Mr. D mumbled. He walked back over to his son, Pollux, so he could keep teaching him how to properly make wine.
"Well," Poseidon smiled at Tyson and me. "Why don't we go down to the beach?"
Poseidon, Tyson and I had spent a nice relaxing day swimming, surfing and fishing for sea monsters. Now, we were having a nice picnic of baked sea monster(it was surprisingly good), when I noticed a small figure darting around the trees. Instantly I knew who it was.
"Hey," I said, getting up quickly. "I'm going to... go to the bathroom." And with that, I rushed away.
I found Nico Di Angelo sitting on a hollow log, fingering his silver skull ring from Bianca.
"Hey," I whispered, sitting down next to him. "Everything okay?"
"No," he responded in a quiet, chocked whisper. He looked up at me and I was surprised to see a tear making it's way down his face. "I just thought that he would come." I knew what he was talking about, of course. Nico's dad was Hades, god of the underworld. I guess Nico was hoping that he would come. That was probably the reason Nico had decided to come to camp in the first place.
"Maybe he got lost, or maybe he had an emergency," I said, trying to sound consoling. It didn't work.
"Doubt it," Nico sniffed. "Maybe he forgot I existed, or maybe he just didn't care enough to come.
As soon as Nico said that, an idea flashed into my head (Annabeth would have been proud of me).
"Or maybe," I began loudly. "Hades didn't want to come because all of the other Olympians came. He probably didn't want to make them unhappy by making them see him." Nico stared at me with a mixture of hurt and anger. I felt bad, but Nico would be thanking me if my plan worked out. I looked around for signs that my plan had succeeded, but they didn't come for a few more minutes. Finally, the ground opened up and a man shot out of it.
"Hello, Nico," Hades said. Then, he turned to me. "Jackson." He turned back to Nico. "So, why don't we go grab some dinner?" I know of a great place near a California graveyard." NIco smiled, which Hades took as a yes. He gave me one last dirty look, then disappeared into a cloud of black smoke. Before Nico shadow traveled away, he turned to face me.
"Thanks," he said with a look of gratitude on his face.
"No problem," I responded. I watched him shadow travel away before turning back out of the forest. I had my own family to get back to.
When I got back to the picnic fifteen minutes later, Poseidon raised an eyebrow.
"Sorry I'm late," I apologized. "Sea monkey does not go down well." Poseidon raised another eyebrow.
"Let's have some ice- cream," I said quickly.
"Yay!" Tyson cheered. My dad smiled, and we finally settled down to finish our family meal.
Cringy, right? Anyway, let me know what you thought and I'll be updating again on Friday. Hope you liked it!
Nina
