I'll Be Your Server(part 4)

I had a request for one last part of this to tie everything up in a nice little bow, so here it is but beforehand, I think a backstory might be nice. This is a year and a half after the previous part, and Nico and his parent's haven't spoken since, although he and Hazel are still in constant contact. Will is working at the local hospital and Nico works at an animal shelter. They have an apartment together in New York City and they're about to get married. Enjoy!

Nico's POV

I scanned the throng of people in central park, searching for the heads of two people I hadn't seen in almost two years. "Do you think they'll show up?" I fretted, turning to my younger sister Hazel, who was looking radiant in a long white dress that matched the flowers in her hair. "We sent them an invitation, right?" Hazel nodded, and I could see in her eyes that she was doubtful that my parents would show up for my marriage, one of the most important events in my life. They had already skipped my graduation, which had been a few months ago, and I knew I would be crushed if they didn't show up, even though I pretended I didn't care.

"Nico, I talked to them when I had dinner with them a few nights ago," Hazel sighed. "They got the invitation, but they didn't say anything about coming."

"Well, we have two extra seats for them in case they come, right?" I asked. "And extra party favors?"

"If they come, we have enough of everything so that they'll be treated like any other guest," Hazel promised.

"Good." I let out a relieved breath. "I know we haven't spoken in a while, but I want them to be here. I want them to see me get married."

"I completely understand," Hazel assured me. "Do you know when Will is coming out?" She asked, changing the subject to my soon to be husband. I stood on my tip-toes, just able to see the long white tent that Will was inevitably waiting in, getting ready for the ceremony to start.

"I have no idea," I responded, letting my feet sit flat on the rose petal covered ground again. "He told me that it was bad luck to see the groom in his tuxedo before the wedding and shut himself in the tent three hours ago. He's been in there ever since."

Hazel laughed. "Well, he'll be out soon, I'm sure. The ceremony starts at three, and it's two fifty now." She gave me one last scan from head to toe, straightening out my black bow tie. "Come on, we should get to the end of our aisle."

Will and I weren't exactly sure how to set up our wedding. Neither of us had ever been to a gay wedding, and we had both wanted to walk the aisle. So, a compromise arose. We had one long, black aisle strewn with rose petals stretching throughout the chairs that had been set out for the wedding guests with the altar sitting in the middle. Will's father would be walking Will to the altar and since my dad wasn't here, Hazel would be taking his place. It was all in order, besides two major puzzle pieces that left a gaping hole in the picture.

Will's POV

I stared at myself in the full length mirror on the side of the tent, smoothing out stray wrinkles on my white suit. I straightened my bow tie, making sure my outfit was as perfect as I could get it. I could feel the presence of both of my parents behind me and I turned around to see their smiling faces beaming at me.

"You look amazing, honey," my mother told me, giving me a kiss on the forehead. "Nico is going to be knocked off of his feet when he sees you."

"Speaking of Nico, are his parents going to be here?" my father asked. "We still haven't met them."

"We don't know yet," I said a little bit too quickly. "He's still rocky with them, but we sent them an invitation."

"Well, no matter what happens with him family, we will always be Nico's family," my dad assured me. He gazed at my reflection in the mirror, observing my white suit and carefully styled hair. "Come on," he said. "We should get outside. The ceremony is about to start."

I linked my arm in my father's as he pushed back the flap of the tent, stepping onto my side of the aisle. For the first time this summer the sun was lightly shining down on the Earth, making for a pleasantly warm day. At the other side of the aisle I could see Nico, standing with Hazel in his black suit. As the band started to play Here Comes the Bride I took a deep breath as I started to walk down the aisle.

Hazel's POV

As the band began to play Here Comes the Bride I started to walk Nico down the aisle, still scanning the crowd for my parents. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a new couple in the back of the guests and I strained my neck to see my parents standing awkwardly, looking nervously at the proceedings. Not wanting to disrupt the ceremony I gave Nico a small nudge on the arm, quietly pointing out our parents on the outskirts of the crowd. His eyes lit up when he saw them, giving them a small wave. His face broke out into a smile when they waved back.

I turned my attention from my parents back to the matter at hand; the soon to be husband and husband. I had coordinated the entire event and outfits, with the help of a few of Nico and Will's friends, and I had to say I had done a decent job. I had put Nico is a black tuxedo and Will in a white one, making it seem as if, when they came together at the altar they would be like ying and yang, the perfect fit to one another.

We arrived at the altar, and I could see a small tear of happiness at the corner of Nico's eye, his wide smile threatening to make it spill over his eyelid and onto his cheek. I let go of Nico's arm, fanning out next to him, Will's father doing the same on the opposite side. Nico and Will took each other's hands, and the reverend started to read the vows.

Will's POV

His hands were in mine, his dark brown eyes locked on to my light blue ones. The reverend was reading the vows but it seemed like his voice was underwater. The words in sickness and in health floated into my brain, but I was barely paying attention, my only focus on Nico, standing in front of me with one of the biggest smiles I had ever seen.

"Do you, William Solace, take Nico Di Angelo to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The reverend's voice washed over me, presenting me with the question that would forever change my life.

"I do," I responded, gazing at Nico so hard it felt like I was looking into his soul.

"And do you, Nico Di Angelo, take William Solace to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do," Nico answered, returning my passionate gaze.

"You may now kiss the groom." I swept Nico into my arms, dipping down into a long kiss. He wrapped his arms around my neck, holding himself up. It felt like a kiss you would see in the movies, one of the passionate, staged kisses that everyone loved. But this kiss wasn't staged. It was as real as my love for my new husband. I could hear cheers from the crowd, and next to us, Hazel let out a squeal. When I looked up again the crowd was dispersing, heading toward the five tier cake, gorgeously decorated. Some couples were taking the dance floor. Nico grabbed my hand, leading me somewhere. I assumed he was taking me to the festivities but he pulled me away from the party and to the small cluster of guests who hadn't made their way to the fun. At the back of the crowd were two people, two people I hadn't seen in a year and a half.

"Hi Mom, hi Dad," Nico said, yanking me to his side. We were so close I could feel his body shaking against mine. "It's so great you could come. We didn't think you would make it."

"We're so glad you invited us, honey," Nico's mother said, giving him a slightly awkward pat on the back. "We would never have missed your marriage."

"Even if I'm marrying a man?"

"Even if you're marrying a man," Nico's dad assured him. "We haven't exactly been on the best of terms this past year and a half-"

"Understatement of the century," Nico muttered into my ear, so quietly that only I could hear him. I had to refrain from laughing.

"But we want to fix that," Nico's father continued.

"We both feel terrible about how we've been treating you," Nico's mother said. "We want you back in our lives, Nico. It might take us a little while to get used to who you really are but I promise that eventually, we will come to understand." I could tell that they were trying to extend an olive branch. They had treated Nico awfully the last time he had seen them, and now the only question was whether he would accept their offer or cut them from his life forever.

"I'd love that," he finally decided, grinning at his parents. They let out a sigh of relief, drawing him in for a hug.

"It's so good to have you back, Nico," his mother said. "Now, go join the festivities. It is your day, after all."

I could almost feel the happiness radiating off of Nico as we walked hand in hand across Central Park, the sun warming our backs.

"How come you did it?" I wondered, the question that had been nagging at the back of my mind spilling out of my mouth.

"Did what?"

"Forgave your parents. They treated you terribly, you didn't have to forgive them."

"I know," Nico sighed. "But they're my parents, and I still love them. Besides, life is too short to hold grudges." A grin crept onto his face and he started to pull on my hand, dragging me toward the festivities. "Now, come on. We're going to miss all of the fun!"

"Okay, okay, I'm coming!" I laughed. Sun shining down happily and laughter drifting over to our ears, Nico dragged me across the green expanse of Central Park.

Hi guys! So I hope you liked that little ending to the group of stories I've been writing and remember, requests are always open.
