Coming Out Solanglo Style
A request from @Demigod_HorseLover9 who wanted a solangelo coming out story in the canon universe, so here you go!
Nico's POV
"They're going to find out," I fretted, wringing my hands as my boyfriend hung a Welcome Gods! sign at the front of the big house. Will glanced down at me from his perch on the ladder, smiling kindly.
"Neeks, relax," he chuckled. "The gods are here for one day to make sure the camp is in good condition and to meet with their kids. Hades is not going to find out we're dating, I promise."
"They will!" I insisted. "Our initials are carved into the side of my cabin, so there's no changing that. Besides, someone's bound to tell him." Heaving a sigh Will climbed down from the ladder, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me into him.
"You'll be fine, whatever happens," Will said, running his fingers through my untamed hair.
"That's easy for you to say," I muttered, grudgingly giving in to his embrace. "Your dad is bi. He'll be completely accepting. Hades, not so much."
"You're his only son," Will reminded me. "I can assure you that, whatever happens, Hades will still love you for who you are." He kissed me lightly on the head. "Besides, I'll always be here, no matter what happens."
He turned his focus from me to Half Blood Hill, where twelve imposing figures were coming into view, marching up the hill like an army.
"Speak of the devil," Will muttered, detaching himself from me to get a better view of the immortals who were about to cross the threshold to Camp Half Blood. "They're here." He broke into a light jog, joining the hundreds of campers, both from Camp Half Blood and Camp Jupiter, who were going to meet the gods. "Come on!" Will called, waving at me to follow him. Groaning inwardly, I started jogging, coming to meet the hoards of people, excited for the day to begin.
The gods came down to Camp Half Blood about once a millennia to make sure the camp was in good working order. The camps were allowed quite a bit of freedom, but they had to make sure to avoid a catastrophe, such as a massive civil war or Chiron leaving the camp and letting a couple hundred demigods run wild. Because the gods were so rarely on Earth together we had invited Camp Jupiter to meet the Greek versions of their parents and have a nice day with the people who they no longer hated. Everyone had been looking forward to it for months. Everyone except for me.
Hazel and I being the only two children of Hades, we were sought out immediately. After Chiron gave his speech, saying how the camp was working better than it had in a millennia and that there was nothing to worry about the crowd began to disperse, breaking off into groups based on their godly parents. I caught Will's eye as he began to walk away with the Apollo clan, mouthing I'll see you later! before he was swallowed up by the crowd. Hazel, Hades and I were left alone, standing in an awkward semi circle before Hades, realizing that it was up to him to start the conversation, cleared his throat.
"Well, then," he said, gazing around the camp. "Nico, I believe it would be best to take us to your cabin?" I flashed back to Will and I, carving our names with a pocket knife into the side of my cabin. It was between risking coming out to my father or possibly being incinerated for not listening to him.
"Sure," I responded, eventually deciding not to show him the back side of the cabin, where our initials were. I lead him and Hazel to my cabin, showing it off with a flourish of my hand. "Here's the great Hades cabin," I said, keeping my speech brief. "I sleep in it, I sometimes hang out in it, and that's about it. How about I show you the lake?" I couldn't think of anything near the lake that would risk outing me to my father.
"Wait," he protested, beginning to walk around the side of the cabin. "I've heard that this cabin is in front of some lovely woods, and I'd like to see." I couldn't stop him as he turned to the side of the cabin, thoroughly observing his surroundings. Before he could turn to the back I grabbed his arm, digging my heels into the ground, trying to pull him back.
"Come on, there are woods everywhere," I told him. "There's noting really special about them. We can go to the lake instead." I felt an acorn bounce again, a dryad angrily huffing away. My father watched her storm off, shrugging.
"Fine," he decided. "Let's see this lake you seemed to be obsessed with."
Another group was at the lake, another small, three person family sitting on a cropping of rocks on the edge.
"Hi, guys!" Percy grinned, waving at us from his perch. I began to walk over, leading my father and Hazel to the small group.
"Dad, I think you've met Percy before," I said. Hades greeted him with a small smile and wave. "And this is his half brother, Tyson."
"Nice to meet you, sir!" Tyson grinned toothily. "Hello, Hazel!"
"Nice to see you again, Tyson," Hazel smiled. Hazel had always taken a liking to Tyson, whether it because of how kind he was to Ella or his generally sunny demeanor.
"So, Nico, how come Will's not with you?" Percy asked. "I mean, you guys are practically inseparable." I could almost see the questions beginning to form in Hades's brain, the ones that would eventually yield answers that I doubted he would like."
"I'm right here!" I spun around to see Will jogging away from his group, waving. He slowed down when he got close to me, giving me a light punch on the arm. "Hi, bud!" He gave everyone cheery waves, diverting everyone's attention from Percy's question. "My group's right over there," he informed us, pointing towards the rest of the Apollo clan. Apollo didn't seen too concerned that one of his sons had left him, and was serenading his children with What Makes Me Beautiful which, according to him, was not inspired by One Direction.
Will was clearly trying to squash any thoughts in Hades's mind that I was gay. I could see it in his strained smile, his babble that seemed to leave Hades speechless, a feat that, to my knowledge, had never been done before. I loved Will, and I loved Will for doing this for me, but I couldn't let Will pretend he didn't love me, or pretend I didn't love him.
"I need to talk to you," I said, grabbing Will's arm and pulling him away.
"What's wrong?" he asked as soon as we were out of earshot. "Am I not acting straight enough?" I shook my head, squeezing my eyes shut.
"Will, I can't let you do this," I sighed, thinking hard. "The only way I'm going to be happy is if my dad knows we're together."
"You're coming out?" Excitement was apparent in his voice, and he was bouncing on the balls of his feet. I nodded.
"Can we do it together? Just grab our parents and do it privately? I know the entire camp knows, but I would feel much more comfortable doing it like that."
"Of course," Will responded. "Let's go."
"Dad, I need to talk to you," I murmured as soon as I returned to the lake. "Can we go somewhere private?" He looked surprised at my request but nevertheless he nodded, following me to the edge of the woods.
Will's POV
Nico and Hades were waiting for us at the edge of the forest, Nico tapping his foot nervously on the ground and Hades staring at Nico awkwardly, wondering what this was about. I stood on Nico's left side, separating the group into parents on one side and boyfriends on the other.
"We have something we need to tell you," Nico began, taking a deep breath. "I'm gay."
"We're gay," I put in.
"We're gay for each other," Nico explained. To prove his point he gave me a huge kiss on the lips, silently assuring me that he knew that everything would be fine.
When we broke apart I took a moment to observe the faces in front of me. Apollo's expression was slowly turning from a look of surprise to overwhelming joy. He jumped up and down, finally springing into a hug, squeezing me so tight I could hardly breathe.
"I just knew that my children were gay!" he exclaimed, clapping his hands. "After all I myself am gay, and I simply could not imagine that a single child of mine would not inherit the trait!" He continued to babble, not noticing when I turned my attention to the other god.
Hades was stoic, possibly shocked by the news. He and Nico were locked in a staring match, neither one wanting to breath the gaze and neither one of them wanting to say something.
"So, Dad, are you okay with it?" Nico finally asked. His voice had lost some of its previous bravado, almost retreating into his body. I grabbed his hand, trying to convey the message that whatever happened, I would be there for him. He straightened up, returning to the semi- confident Nico Di Angelo, the one I had grown accustomed to and loved, not that I didn't love Nico no matter what.
"Of course I'm okay with it," Hades said finally. Nico let out a breath next to me. "You're my son, Nico. Even though I was surprised at first, I will always be accepting of you. You never have to worry about that." Nico grinned, swinging my arm slightly.
"Do you really mean that?"
"Of course."
"Isn't this great, Uncle?" Apollo gushed, giving Hades a huge slap on the back. "Our sons are dating! This will give us plenty of chances to hang out more!" He gave a dramatic gasp. "Maybe we can even plan their wedding together!" Hades started to walk away, Apollo following, making extravagant plans for our wedding in ten years.
"Apollo," Hades grunted. "Please leave me alone."
Nico and I laughed, watching the conversation fold out.
"I believe the picnic lunch is starting soon," I stated. "Shall we go over? I don't know about you, but I'd like a chocolate slide at my wedding, and I don't want Apollo to plan the entire thing.
"Let's go," Nico decided. Hand and hand we walked to the crowd gathering by the lake, a huge weight lifted off of our chests.
Hi guys! So I hope you liked that one, but I have some bad news. I'm going to New York, Philadelphia and D.C. next week, so I won't have enough time to update. However with summer here I'll have more time to write, so I can update more often. Also if any of you ship jarchie read my friend crustbucket s book, I can promise you'll like it.
Nina
