Present Day

Anirudh could sense the sadness in Bondita's voice when she apologized, and he didn't know why she was apologizing.

"What's wrong?" he asked, feeling a strange sensation in his own heart as he heard her sad voice.

Bondita took a deep breath and said, "There's something... I haven't... said..."

She had to tell him about Paritosh. About how she was supposed to get married to him in a few weeks, and how she had no other option, because Mami had left her with no choice.

"Yes Bondita?" Anirudh asked.

She hesitated though. She was worried. She was afraid, that he would take the pressure upon himself to sort out her life, and she was only going to burden him by telling him about this. She was afraid... that even though his Mom had claimed that he liked her, he still hadn't confessed it to her.

She wanted to hear it from his own mouth first.

She took a deep breath and asked, "Who... am I... to you?"

Anirudh was stunned by her sudden question, and he said right away, "Y - You're Bondita!"

Bondita felt her heart ache when he said this, even though there was a depth in the way he said it. It was as if the way he took her name itself was way deeper than any name he could give their bond.

However... this was the 21st century, and Bondita wasn't yet aware of the bond that she shared with him in the past; a bond which was nameless, undefinable, timeless.

This Bondita was only focused on a definition.

"But what's our relationship?" she asked him, her eyes coated with tears.

"I dunno..." Anirudh mumbled, feeling very strange about this, because no matter what label he gave it, it just didn't feel right

If he called her his girlfriend, or even if he called her his friend, it felt strangely shallow. Like it was an injustice to their bond, by giving it such titles.

What was this feeling?

"You... don't... know?" she asked, her heart aching.

"Do we have to give it a name?" Anirudh asked her over the phone, and he took a deep breath, "Alright you tell me, what name do you want to give it?"

Bondita squeezed her eyes shut, taking deep breaths, and she said, "No... we don't have to."

She said that she wouldn't force him. How could she pressure him like this?

"Bondita, are you okay?" Anirudh asked.

She pressed her hand to her forehead and whispered, "I'm okay. I'm just not feeling well. I'll talk to you later."

"What? Bon --" But she had already hung up.

Anirudh sighed as he stared at the phone, wondering what happened to her all of a sudden. He knew she was worried to go back home. Did something happen there?

Also who had she been so disturbed by earlier? Was it her Mami?

"Who is this Mami of hers, and why is Bondita so disturbed by her all the time?" Anirudh muttered under his breath, angrily.

--

A few days later, Anirudh had gone to meet Batuk to deliver the good news of meeting Girish. He had been sitting on the sofa, next to his grandfather who had been helped out of his wheelchair.

"Thakurda, you always said that you missed your Dada and Boudi's kids, right?" Anirudh asked him.

A lost look appeared in the 99 year old's eyes, and he nodded.

"Very much... I never got a chance to even properly hold them, although... I always dreamed, about being their Super Chachu," Batuk whispered, pain in his old and raspy voice.

Anirudh felt a strange ache in his heart and he said, "What if you get a chance to meet them now?"

Batuk looked at Anirudh with shock and asked, "How is that possible?"

"I... ran into one of them..." Anirudh said softly to him.

"What?" Batuk asked, his eyes widening on his wrinkly face. "Are you joking?"

Anirudh smiled and he said, "No Thakurda, it's not a joke."

"That's right... you aren't as funny as I used to be," Batuk mumbled. "Just like my Big D!"

Anirudh frowned slightly, wondering whether this was an insult, or his Thakurda was just bragging about himself.

Then Batuk looked at Anirudh with excitement, "And they are willing to meet me?"

"Of course. Girish was his name. Girish Roy Choudhary. He said he would love to meet you," Anirudh said softly.

Batuk's eyes glistened with tears when he heard this.

"M - My nephew w - wants to meet me?" Batuk asked, sounding emotional.

Anirudh nodded, smiling, and gently held his grandfather's hand.

"And... and my nieces?" Batuk questioned.

Anirudh felt a strange sensation in his heart.

"Nieces?" he asked.

"Do they want to meet me too?" Batuk asked.

"I... haven't asked about them," Anirudh admitted. "But I have Girish Jethu's number, and I told him that I'd arrange for you two to meet."

Batuk looked at Anirudh, looking heavily emotional.

"C - can I speak to him?" Batuk asked.

"Of course, let me call him," Anirudh said with a smile.

Anirudh took his phone and dialled his Jethu's number.

A younger man's voice answered. "Hello?" the man's voice said.

"Hi... is... Girish... there?" Anirudh asked, not referring to him as Jethu, because he didn't know who he was speaking to and didn't want to give any shocks to his family, in case they had no idea about this.

"Oh, Baba? Yes, one second!" the man's voice said.

Baba? Girish Jethu had a son?

Anirudh glanced at his Thakurda and whispered, "He said Baba. You have another grandson, Thakurda!"

Batuk's eyes glistened with tears again and he whispered, "That means... my Big D and Boudi have grandchildren."

A lone tear rolled down Batuk's cheek, and Anirudh just smiled at his Thakurda's tears of happiness.

"Hello?" Girish's old voice said over the phone.

"Hello, Jethu? It's me... Anirudh," Anirudh said.

There was a soft silence, one that felt welcoming.

"Anirudh..." Girish said, sounding like he was smiling, "How are you Baba?"

Anirudh felt a strong feeling in his heart, as if he too was getting emotional.

"I'm with my Thakurda, and he would like to talk to you," Anirudh said. "Your... Super Chachu."

"Super Chachu?" Girish asked, sounding emotional.

Anirudh handed the phone to Batuk, and Batuk's emotional voice said, "Hello? G - Girish?"

"S - Super Chachu?" Girish asked, sounding just as emotional.

Tears spilled from Batuk's eyes and he was unable to form anymore words, because he was too emotional.

"I - I'm out of town for some time, I had to leave because of some urgent work, but when I come back, we will meet, okay, Super Chachu?" Girish's emotional voice asked Batuk.

"Y - yes, come soon though Girish. Your Super Chachu is very old," Batuk whispered into the phone, "I don't know how many days I have left."

"Don't say that... I'll come soon. Wait for me," Girish murmured.

Batuk smiled through his tears and he said, "And your sisters? How are they Girish?"

"I'll talk to them and we will all meet with you," Girish said. "We are all good."

"Good," Batuk said, his heart feeling strangely at ease.

Batuk glanced at Anirudh and looked at him with a loving smile, giving him all the blessings in the world through his gaze.

--

Anirudh didn't understand why Bondita didn't call him for a few days. He had called her once, and she had just responded that she was busy and would talk to him later. It sounded like she was among people, so he didn't pressure her.

She wasn't even replying to his texts though, and it was driving him nuts.

That night, he opened their conversation on whatsapp and wrote: are you going to continue ignoring me?

Bondita, who was lying in bed, looked at the text, and saw that the last few days, everyday he had written a hello, and she hadn't answered, either because she had been around people, or because she was scared to respond to him.

How could she continue leading him on, when her marriage was fixed with someone else? And if he was interested in her, then how could she pressure him to accept his feelings any quicker, just because of her marriage?

She wanted to give him freedom, she didn't want to bind him.

That night though, she was losing any sense of self-control she had in herself.

She replied: I'm not ignoring you.

Anirudh: Oh really? Then won't you tell me what's going on?

Bondita: I've been busy.
Bondita: There's a celebration happening.

Anirudh: a celebration?

Bondita: some function is happening in our house soon...

Anirudh: What kind of function?

Bondita: forget it... it doesn't matter...

Anirudh stared at his phone for a few seconds, wondering why she was responding this way.

Anirudh: Can I call you?

Bondita: People will hear us, the walls are thin.

Anirudh: Then why don't I come and meet you?

Bondita's heart suddenly started to hammer hard in her chest when he said this, and she was feeling an excited jitter at the possibility.

Bondita: It'll be hard to sneak out.

Anirudh: I'll kidnap you then and bring you with me.

A smile appeared on her lips.

Bondita: Will you really kidnap me?

Anirudh: Why? Do you not want to be kidnapped?

Bondita: If I say, I want to?

Anirudh: Then I'll be there in a heartbeat.

Her heart was certainly beating fast and hard, as she read his texts.

Bondita: I wish... I could just hug you.

Anirudh: Should I come?

Bondita wished she could say yes. If Mami saw though, there would be a huge drama.

Bondita: Send me a virtual hug.

Anirudh: Not just that, I'll send you a virtual kiss too.

Bondita blushed, and Anirudh smiled, as he saw that she was online and not typing anything for a few moments.

Bondita: Only a kiss?

This was it. She couldn't help it. She knew she was probably wrong for engaging in this conversation, but what could she do when she also had feelings, she also had hormones, and she also had a strange kind of love for him, where she only wished to be with him and forget everything.

It was like the moment he spoke to her, she could forget about everything truly, and that was why she had been so hesitant in the past few days to respond.

The proof was now.

She was losing sense of herself, only to immerse herself in him!

Anirudh: Oh, missy, I'd do so much more

Bondita: Like?

Anirudh: You sure you wanna know? You might beg me to come over ;)

Bondita gasped when she read this, her heart hammering hard inside her chest, his words doing something crazy to her body.
