Killer Queen
Dani's pov ☀︎
Todays the last day before spring break starts. Ever since Serena left I've felt so out of it. I just feel like I haven't been myself since that night. Which I know has brought other people down, which I don't mean to. It just seems like thats happening. It's as if the color of the world had been sucked out. That everything is now gray and cloudy.
I tried pushing those thoughts away as I stepped out of my car. I then grabbed my bag out of the backseat and flung it on my back as I walked towards the building. As I made it close to the doors I heard Robins voice yell from behind me, "Hey wait up!" she yelled jumping out of Steve's car.
I turned around as she ran towards me and put a smile on my face. For most people I had to fake a smile now, but for Robin it was never fake. Just hearing her voice was able to put some peace at my mind. "Hey," I smiled as she got close to me. Robin rambled about whatever was on her mind that morning and I listened to her. Most people would get annoyed at someone for talking non stop, but when she does it, it's the cutest thing ever. I love seeing her so excited to tell me something or just hearing whatever's on her mind.
I dropped her off in the band room before I walked into the gym. Since we have a pep rally all the cheerleaders have to go to the gym first thing this morning. As I entered the gym I saw Chrissy and Lorelai sitting down and stretching together. I sat my cheer bag down on the side of the gym before joining them. As I sat down they both looked over at me giving a small smile. They continued talking about what they were before and I put my input in every now and then.
It wasn't long before we were all standing in two lines beside the entrance doors cheering as the students entered the gym. And then once everyone was in we did the routine as everyone yelled with excitement. Once we finished we ran to the front of the floor sitting on our knees as the basketball players ran out. I waved to Lucas which he acknowledged with a wave and smile back.
Once they were all out Jason was handed a microphone and he started his speech. He then started naming all the people we had lost and how they wouldn't want us to lose, and when he said Serena's name my heart dropped. My smile dropped and for that moment I just felt numb.
It's like everyone just gave up on her that quickly. It's been five months since I saw her. There's just no way she's gone. Maybe she left town for a while? I know how much she dislikes her parents. Though she'd usually just stay at my house, but I guess it isn't far away enough from them.
But when everyone started cheering I just followed along. I didn't wanna look off to everyone else so I just did as everyone else did. After everyone cheered at the end of his speech the principal came out dismissing everyone grade by grade. Once they all had left, the cheerleaders, basketball players, and band members followed everyone else out. I walked with Robin to the band room so she could drop off her instrument and get out of her band uniform, then we headed to our lockers.
On my way to mine I passed Lorelai and Max in the hallway and they seemed to be having a disagreement over something. All I really saw was Max handing her back a ticket to the game before she entered the bathroom and Lorelai stood there in defeat.
As I made it to my locker Jennifer was standing there leaning up against it popping bright pink bubble gum. "Hm?" I questioned opening up my locker.
"Are you like ok? I know Serena's been like missing and shit, but I'm sure she just hopped a bus out of this god forsaken town," she asked me in a bitchy tone.
"Damn don't you have a little sympathy or something?" I asked turning my head to look at her. She was messing with her obnoxiously teased black hair and brightly colored jumper.
"I do!" she replied standing up straight holding her binder in her hands, "I just think you should loosen up a little bit! I'm sure she's like completely fine!" she told me with the fakest smile on her face.
"God she's annoying," I mumbled under my breath with my head practically inside my locker. Which didn't last for long as I saw the younger Wheeler running up to me.
"Didn't know your kindness to nerds stretched to the freshman class," Jen said making a snarky remark as she saw him.
"Shut the hell up," I said rolling my eyes at her while taking out the things I need for my next class. "What is it?" I asked turning to Mike with a half smile on my lips. "I can't give you a ride h-"
"I don't need a ride," he said cutting me off, "I was wondering if you'd join our D&D game for this one night?" and right as he said that Jennifer started busting out laughing.
"Are you serious! You're asking Danielle if she wants to play your little stupid satanic fantasy game?" she asked through laughs.
"Will you just fuck off?" I asked getting annoyed of her presence. I'm not one to cuss at someone in a rude manor but she's just really getting on my last fucking nerve. I then turned back to Mike as Jen scurried off, "As much as I'd love to, I can't."
"What? Why not?" he questions.
"Really Mike? You're one of the smartest kids I know and you can't use context clues?" I asked looking down at my cheer uniform with the jacket on top having my name embroidered in the corner.
"You have to be there?"
"As co-captain, yes I have to be there," I say letting out a small laugh as we begin to walk the halls.
"Come on! One night that's all!"
"It's the tournament, I can't miss it!" I reply shrugging my shoulders before walking off into my classroom as he's left in the hallway. I sat down in my seat and tried my best to focus on the subject but my mind just seemed to keep drifting.
I didn't even realize class was over until everyone started walking out of the room. I quickly picked up all my things and headed for the door, but was stopped by my teacher. "Danielle, the counselor would like to see you," he told me handing me a slip of paper.
"Right," I nodded before taking the slip from him and heading to her office. I knocked on her door and she let me in having me sit down in the chair in front of her. "So..."
"You have a C in english and a B minus in math. This is very unlike you. You're usually top of the class, and I'm aware that Serena's disappearance has taken a toll on you so I thought that you might benefit from talking to someone."
"I'm fine. I'm just worried about her that's all," I told her messing with the hem of my jacket.
"I'm sure you are. But if you need to talk to someone...please talk to me," she told me trying to give a comforting smile.
"Wasn't Serena seeing you before she left?" I questioned her.
"I can't disclose any information about her visits to you. I'm sure you wouldn't want me telling people anything you say here," she reply's giving a small smile.
"But did she ever mention anything of running away?" I asked sitting on the edge of the chair. All she did was shake her head. I stood up from the chair grabbing my bag before heading towards the door.
"Danielle I want to see you when we come back from break!" I heard her say as I walked out the door accidentally bumping into Iris.
"Shit I'm sorry!" she said. As I looked at her I could tell she wasn't really sleepy that much as she had bags under her eyes.
"Are you ok?" I asked just wanting to make sure she was ok. I know they were close too and she was the last person to see her that night.
"Yeah, yeah!" she replied, but almost said it like she was trying to convince herself. "I-uh I actually have to get to somewhere. Thanks for asking D," she smiled before walking off.

It was now just moments before the game would be starting and the student section was already going crazy. The band was playing and the school paper was there. The basketball players were warming up as we got ready on the sidelines.
I saw Steve walk into the gym with Marie, he had some chips and cheese in one hand as they found seats. As they passed by I gave them a smile which they both returned.
Before it started the principal came out and announced who would be singing and to my surprise he said the name Tammy Thompson. I felt my heart practically drop through my chest. I found myself searching the band section for Robin and when my eyes finally reached her she was turned around looking at Steve with both of their mouths dropped. I selfishly hope that no prior feelings come back up.
I truly think I'd rather die than Robin have a crush on someone else. But as she started singing the anthem I could see the two trying to hold in their laughs at how bad it was. I tried pushing those thoughts away and just pay attention to the game and as soon as she was done the noisy gym was back as the players went out and we stared the "jump ball" cheer.
We went through all the cheers with an extremely close games and as the clock was about to go off Lucas scored the winning shot! Lorelai basically ran onto the court tackling Lucas in a hug with a giant smile on both of their faces. A big smile came across my face just seeing the both of them happy.
After everything calmed down I went over congratulating him, along with Robin, Steve, and Marie as we all gave him a hug telling him how amazing he did. But it wasn't long until his family called him over telling him it was time to leave.
Robin and I walked out of the building being hit by the chilling spring air. "Whys it so cold," I stated crossing my arms as we started walking.
"Here," Robin said taking off her band jacket handing it over to me as we stood in the parking lot.
"No you're gonna be cold," I told her pushing her hand back.
"Dani you're in a skirt with a light jacket. I have layers of clothes on, take it!" she smiled putting her hand out again. Even though I protested she put the jacket across my shoulders. "Better?" she asked looking at me. All I did with nod with a smile across my face. "Where are you parked?"
"Umm down here," I told her as we walked past rows of cars. We both walked close together, basically hip to hip by the time we were at the car.
"God why'd you park so far," she said letting out a small laugh.
"There was no space in the parking lot this morning," I told her before handing back her jacket as we made it to the car. "You hungry?"
"Literally starving! Like for lunch today the food absolutely sucked so all I really had were some fries," she started telling me as we both got into my car.
