Chapitre Trente Deux
Alex was going to go talk to this Thomas guy today. He wasn't going to be too aggressive or harsh. All he was going to do was introduce himself and ask this guy a few questions to see if this was the same person. Alex hoped for everything in himself that it wasn't.
John didn't want him to. It wasn't just that he didn't want to cause trouble. It was that Thomas wasn't just a homophobe. He was an everything-phobe. It wasn't uncommon for them to just be walking around campus and then for Thomas to say something rude to or about someone he had never talked to. With Alexander's history of body issues, John didn't want him to risk it.
Alex understood where he was coming from. He simply didn't care. Nobody treats his boyfriend like that and gets away with it. No matter how long ago it was, no matter if John and Alex had ever met. This asshole still did it, and he can never take that back.
Alex walked up to the new guy's room that Monday. It was the guy's second or third day, Alex really didn't know. Alex, in fact, didn't really care. He walked up to the room that had been empty for ever so long. The light was on and it was strange for Alex to see the room occupied, filled. For so long he had walked past that room while it was dark and closed up. He knocked on the door, even though it was opened and walked in.
A tall man looked up, dark skin, bearing a slight resemblance to Lafayette. He looked familiar, and Alex thought back to the photograph. He fought the urge to clench his fists and smiled at the man.
"Hi," Alex started, trying to sound warm. "I'm Alexander Hamilton. I'm one of the other social studies teachers here, and hadn't gotten a chance to introduce myself." The man smiled and gave him a friendly look.
"Nice to meet you, Alexander," the fucking jerk said. "I'm Thomas Jefferson, but you probably already heard who I was," he chuckled. Alex fake chuckled, too. Now it was time for a couple of questions.
"So, I hear you were in France for a while," Alex said. Thomas nodded. "Did you go there straight after college?" Thomas nodded again.
"Yes, I did. I wanted to have a better cultural awareness, but didn't want to go while I had a teaching job," he explained. Alex nodded as though he cared about a word this man was saying.
"You know, speaking of college, there's a teacher here who had mentioned going to college and being friends with a Thomas Jefferson. I don't know if it was necessarily you, but it would just be kind of funny if it was, you know? Anyways, his name is John Laurens, do you know him?" Alex asked. Thomas' head shot up at the mention of the name. His eyes flashed with an emotion that Alex couldn't quite place. Anger, disgust, or even... guilt?
"Um, yes, actually," he was stuttering. "We hung out quite a bit back then. Um, wh-what exactly did he say about me?" Thomas asked. Alex glared at him.
"Shit you wouldn't even want to remember," Alex said. And he turned around and walked out. He refused to let Thomas defend himself. He didn't deserve that chance.
John disagreed.
"He hasn't even been here for a week and you've made him your enemy!" John exclaimed. Alex rolled his eyes.
"Well I sure as hell don't want him as my best bud, now do I?" Alex questioned. John sighed and rubbed his face. As much as he may act like he wanted to be at peace with Jefferson, he was still wearing the sheer-white-jealousy-shirt.
"Whatever, sure," John said, not in the mood to argue about this. He knew it was coming from the goodness of Alexander's heart.
Whilst in the middle of the conversation, they didn't notice a face at the door. Probably for the best, considering it was not one Alexander particularly wanted to see. Their heads shot up at the sound of a sharp knock. Alex looked away immediately.
"Hey, Alexander, fancy seeing you here," Thomas halfheartedly. Alex still wouldn't look his way. Thomas sighed and turned to John. "Hey, Laurens. You look good."
Alex started talking before John could respond. "Don't tell him he looks good," Alex snapped. "And maybe show some respect and call him by his first name. You've put him through hell, so I feel it's the least you could do." Alexander was unrelenting in his fury.
Thomas nodded. "You're right, I'm sorry," Thomas sounded exhausted and remorseful. "John, I'm sorry for how I acted to you back in the day," Thomas apologized sincerely.
"I don't know if I can accept that," John said. "I'm still insecure about some of the things you said to me. I could barely tell my real friends when I got a boyfriend because I didn't want them to end up like you." John, who started calm, was near spitting his words at Jefferson, who didn't know how to react. Alex almost smiled. This clearly didn't go how Thomas had planned. "Now please, get out of my office," John requested, his voice back to calm. Thomas left, still seemingly not comprehending what had just happened.
John looked at Alex, his eyes begging for reassurance. Alex nodded and kissed him on the head. John didn't deserve people like that in his life. He never has and never will. And if Alexander has a say in them never entering his life, then they never will.
Woah Jeffershit is here now i wonder if he's gonna be a jerk
No really, I don't know, if I'm going to make him out to be a jerk or not
