Chapitre Soixante

House warming party. Knowing their friends, they might not make it out of the party with a house. The house wasn't huge, but it was a little bit bigger than a lot of couples' first homes. There were two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an extra room that they hadn't really figured out a use for yet. Most of the rooms were furnished, even though Alex had wanted to hold off on the party until all of them were.

The party started at 6. John arrived back at the house with one of those store bought cheese and cracker platters at 5:30. He realized, as he drove up to the house, that there was already somebody there, and only one person in their friend group had a bright-ass yellow car. Peggy.

Of course Peggy was half an hour early. She hated being late for things, and loved being ridiculously early. John braced himself before he stepped into the house.

"Honey, I'm home!" he yelled. Now that they actually had a house, he took great pleasure in being able to yell that every time he stepped inside of it. He quickly put the platter onto the counter in the kitchen, and just in time. Peggy sprung onto John, in a violent hug.

"Your house is so awesome!" Peggy screeched at the top of her lungs.

"Thanks, Pegs," John said. He tried to figure out how to set her down, since her fingernails were digging into the back of his neck.

"Where's Alex?" John asked, noticing he hadn't come to check out the commotion in the kitchen.

"He's rearranging all of the flowers in the living room again," Peggy answered, smiling slightly. "I think he's a little nervous." John laughed and agreed. He grabbed the platter off of the counter and made his way into the living room. He was greeted by Alexander, who was moving all of the pillows on the couches around. John laughed and shook his head. He put the platter on to the coffee table and pulled Alex into a hug.

"I think you have moved everything in this room around three times over, hun. Just relax," John told him, gently petting his boyfriend's hair. Alex sighed softly, and nodded a little, and they stayed like that until Peggy made a gagging noise.

"I already have to deal with Eliza and Maria, so I'm not really in the mood for lovey-dovey stuff," she said, pretending to shield her eyes. John laughed, pulling out of the hug.

"Would you rather watch Alexander frantically scuttle around the room and move everything around?" John asked her, raising an eyebrow. She contemplated the question for a second.

"You make a good point. Just watching him was giving me anxiety," she laughed. Alex rolled his eyes at the teasing, but John noticed that he stopped freaking out about how everything looked.

The three chatted for a few minutes until it was closer to 6. The first people to come, besides Peggy, were unsurprisingly the other two Schuyler sisters, accompanied by Maria. Eliza, being herself, brought a plate of home-baked cookies.

"You don't own a house until you've had homemade cookies in it," she said. The others laughed at the motto that she had no doubt made up, and the two newest members joined in on the conversation. The next were Thomas and James followed soon by Herc and Laf. Everybody talked for a while, minus John, who ended up doing more drinking then talking. Maria bought two bottles of champagne, and John was never one to shy away from free alcohol.

Angelica noticed, at one point, that Alex seemed to be still expecting somebody. "Who're you waiting for, Alex?"

Alexander shrugged. "I invited one more person, but I don't really expect him to come," Alex replied, switching his gaze from the window to Angelica. But, at around 7:15, the person Alex was referring to decided to show up. The doorbell rang and everybody whipped their heads around, confused as to who else would be showing up, especially so late. Alex got up to answer, looking equally as surprised as the others, but still knowing who was at the door. He opened the door, grinning.

"Well, if it isn't Aaron Burr," Alex said, grinning. A couple other members of the group raised their eyebrows, but nobody objected. "I didn't think you'd make it." Aaron shrugged.

"I just came to say congratulations on the new house," Aaron said.

"Come on inside, Burr!" Hercules yelled, causing Aaron to look inside the house.

"I see the whole gang is here," Aaron pointed out, noticeably avoiding Herc's suggestion. Lafayette rolled his eyes.

"You are the worst, Burr!" He exclaimed. "Is it really that hard to entrez?"

"Ignore them, Aaron," Alex said. Aaron shrugged, and decided to step inside. Laurens smirked.

"Hey, Burr," John started. "I heard you have a special someone on the side." He was giggling as he talked, and his words were mildly slurred, only making it more obvious that he was on the line between tipsy and full-on drunk. Aaron blushed.

"Really? Thought you said you were too busy with Theo," Alex said, intrigued. He had been informed a few months back that the Theodosia John and Eliza so adored was Aaron's daughter.

"You know, I should go. I wasn't planning on staying," Aaron stuttered. Alex grinned.

"Fine, but we're gonna have a chat on Monday," Alexander told him. Aaron sighed and said his goodbyes. Everybody returned to their normal banter, and even John started talking with the people around him after Alex cut him off from the champagne. They talked until nearly 11 at night, but then the girls all went home. Herc and Laf, however, ended up staying over after the decision was made that they were not safe to drive.

John and Alex went to sleep, both grinning like dorks at the fact that now they had a bedroom for people to stay over in.
