"Psst, Vivian, you awake?"
In the dead of night Vivian found James outside on a ladder just dangling down the side of her bedroom balcony waiting for her.
"Huh? James is that you?"
"Come, I have a surprise for you." He whispered, climbing back down.
Luckily for her, Vivian's bedroom was on the first floor so there was not much struggle getting down.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, hopping down the last step of the ladder.
He didn't give her any explanation, he just grabbed her hand and ran off with her.
"Wait, James," she called, being dragged along by him.
She was slowing down and so James picked her up and threw her over his shoulder and poor Vivian had to hang on for dear life as he sped through.
When he did stop and put her down it took her a second to get her head to stop spinning to stand up straight.
"Never again." She warned without even giving him a second look.
Vivian did manage to look back and she found that in front of her was probably the most beautiful scenery she had ever seen.
"What is all of this?"
"Surprise," James responded. Taking her hand and leading her towards the picnic setup.
"It's my present for you. It took awhile to actually prepare all of this, that's why it took as long as half a year to finally get you a birthday present." James told her while rubbing the back of his neck.
"You didn't have to. Having you there beside me during our excursion was more than enough." Vivian giggled. She took a closer look at the set up and noticed something.
"Did you make these yourself?" She turned to him eager for his response.
"Heh, yeah, sorry the-," but she cut him off with a tight hug.
He froze, his arms hesitant and his face pink.
"I love it," she told him as her hug tightened.
His blush deepened, as he hugged her back.
She let him go squealing as she sat down and started admiring everything.
On beautifully hand crafted porcelain plates was her little Crackle painted in the centre, with gold border and a simple flower pattern. On the same set of plates were fresh berries and on another plate were sandwiches with a butter based spread, cream and strawberry slices. Another place had chocolates shaped like cute little animals.
In the centre lay a tea set where the plates and cups were painted with Vivian's favourite flowers, Violas and Miomsia Pudicas.
They ate and sipped on their tea while enjoying the breeze and each other's company. As they did Vivian noticed a small box next to the picnic basket.
"What's this?" She turned to James as she took it into her hands and shook it trying to guess what was inside..
He smiled before replying ", open it and see."
She gave him a quizzical look before opening. James' heart was beating and all he could think was if she would like. She didn't react and then she cracked the biggest grin he had ever seen. Inside was a golden brooch of the treble clef with a sword going through it.
"I love you," she exclaimed, not exactly hearing what she said.
James froze, and when she registered what she had said her eyes widened.
"It, I-I meant it, sorry," she awkwardly laughed, tension building inside of her.
When he smiled back at her, she relaxed. They both pretended that they didn't hear it, it was best to do so, but deep down they were both confused.
But for now they would ignore it.
They lay down to watch the stars and in the morning a gardener would end up finding the two sprawled in each other's warmth.

"I'm curious though, how'd your dad take it that you're doing ice dancing?"
"At first he was a little shocked but once he heard the story, my dad was fine, plus more than anything a winner is what my family likes best," Hugo cheerfully told her.
"Okay Sofia, now watch me," Hugo told her as he pushed off his legs and spun into the fireball flip.
He came down landing steadily, he grabbed her hand and skated with her gaining speed. "The trick is in the speed you gain and pushing of the force of power that comes along and focusing that energy into the spin."
He looked at her, "ready?"
"Ready!" She enthusiastically replied.
They skated from one end to the middle and pushed off spinning into a double fireball flip.
Sofia squealed as she came down, "did you see that?! Did you see?! I did it! I finally did it!"
Hugo smiled, "I know, and I knew you could."
"Now all we have to do is to put it all together and practice," Sofia exclaimed.
"Then, let's end it here for today," Hugo told her.
She nodded her head. As they were heading back though, a strong wind blew past taking sofias scarf with it.
"My scarf!" Sofia, without hesitation, skated after it.
"Wait, Sofia!" Hugo called out.
But too late, as she got her scarf, the ice beneath her cracked and she fell through the ice.
"Sofia!" Hugo cried. Immediately he skated after her. And found her trying her best to climb out but it was too slippery. Carefully Hugo skated towards her and with a struggle got her out.
"I told you to wait!" Hugo scolded her, worry filled his voice.
She tried to apologize but she was half frozen in shock and half literally frozen cold. Taking off his coat Hugo wrapped it around her shoulders and rushed off to the castle. As the servants saw them arrive at the doors, they zoomed around the room at Hugo's orders.
An hour later, the two now sat by a fire in his room holding two mugs full of hot chocolate. She wore his pyjamas, which were so long on her that she had to roll up about five times.
"Sorry about earlier, I did not expect that, of all things to happen," Sofia explained.
"All good, I get it, you didn't know, but seriously next time be careful," Hugo nagged.
She giggled. "I will."
A knock came from the door, before Prince Axel walked in. "Hey baby bro," to which Hugo scowled at. "Hey Princess Sofia, heard what happened, good to see you doing alright though."
"What are you here for?" Hugo rushed, wanting his brother to stop bothering him.
"Right, I have your clothes Sofia, all washed and dry, I'll leave them here, but dad wants you two to join for dinner, so hurry it up," Axel fussed.
"Okay, you can go now," Hugo remarked.
Axel rose his hands up in a form of surrender, rolling his eyes, a small smile.
"What was that about?"
"I'm still mad at him from this morning."
"Why?"
Hugo blushed. "It's nothing to worry about," and before she could ask anything else, "come on, we can't keep dad waiting, quickly change so we can go eat."
She nodded as she got up to change.
Once she was ready they headed down to eat.
"Ah, Princess Sofia, how are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling just fine, thank your Highness, and yourself?"
"Oh I'm doing just fine, and please don't be so formal," he told Sofia with the corners of his face gaming a few wrinkles as he smiled.
She nodded her head, and sat in the chair Hugo pulled out for her.
She tapped Hugo's arm, asking "where's your Mum?"
"Oh, she went on business and won't be back for another three days."
"Oh," Sofia nodded.
"Wow, look who's being such a fine gentleman, unlike this morning," Axel commented, his entire aura grinning, especially when Hugo glared.
"Shut it," he hissed. Then he smirked, "you know, I've been curious about these strange noises I keep hearing late at night, almost sounds like a name being ..."
Axel's face immediately turned a bright red.
"Okay! That's enough! I'll keep quiet if you do!"
"Deal," Hugo seconded.
Sofia just tilted her head in confusion.
The two brothers had a glare off and ended it there when the food came. Conversation filled the entire eating hall. Even though Sofia was a little concerned about how normal the two brothers went back to being, she just left it and enjoyed her meal and took part in some interesting conversations with Hugo's father.
Days went by and each day was filled with practice until the competition rolled around.
Sofia wore a beautiful navy-purple ice figure skating dress with intricate silver beading designs and matching sleeves, and Hugo wore a black trousers and a black dress shirt that had a loose criss-cross drawstring on the top half of the shirt and puffy sleeves.
In the crowd sat Sofia and Hugo's parents, along with James and Vivian.
They enter the center and give a delicate wave to the audience and circle around with their hands in fourth position. Hugo takes Sofia's hand and spins her whole body around him on the ice, and then in the air. Bringing her back down Hugo takes both her hands and gives her enough speed to throw her in the air to do a flip and catches her back down. They skate down the rink with their hands behind their backs and then to the center. Hugo first throws Sofia in the air to allow her to have enough power to do four fireball flips and then immediately follows, landing on one leg. They skate and do a spin and then taking her waist lifts her and throws her in the air joining her to do stargazer spins the vertical way. Landing back down, Hugo takes Sofia's hands and lifts her above his head, where she does a split and Hugo spins them around in three circles, bringing her back down. He takes the lead and moves her hand from his right to his left skating close to her, fishing with one last jump, then comes back down, they press their foreheads together until the spotlight goes off.
They wave to the crowd as the lights come back on.
Even though there was no official winner, it was obvious whose performance was liked more by the crowd.
"Wow, Sofia, you were just amazing!" Vivian cheered.
"Thanks, I'm really happy you enjoyed it!" Sofia exclaimed.
"Yeah, dude, you were awesome!" James whooped.
"I am pretty awesome," Hugo jokingly bragged.
Life was definitely great as it was, but soon that would all change.
