9. wonder

The week was finally over and both Harry and Steph were on their way to Harrys house. He couldn't help but continually glance over at Steph, who was looking out of the window as if she were some disney princess escaping her tower and seeing the world for the very first time.

He always seemed to smile at the little things she did. She never made anything look ordinary - even if she was just looking out of a window - she made it look as if it was the first time anyone had done anything like it, and it completely blew Harrys mind.

"Don't freak out or anything, but my mums cooking us dinner. I told her that you're coming over and she insisted that we eat before studying." He said, rather nervous as he had never had anyone over for dinner before, and didn't want to scare Steph away.

They arrived and dinner was already being dished out into plates, the smell radiating throughout the house. "Hi mum!" Harry beams as he walked into the kitchen, giving his mother a hug. Steph said her hellos before also giving Anne a hug, thanking her for the dinner.

As they were eating, she couldn't help but think about how nice it was to have a proper family dinner. She hadn't had one since she was very young, and it had been something that she missed more than anything with her mum always working.

They all quickly finished the meal before helping Harrys mother with the washing. Anne insisted that she'd do it but Steph was determined to help as it was the least she could do after having such a wonderful dinner.

Harry soon began spreading sheets across his bed, varying from poems to little annotations he has made of each one. Steph was a little shocked at his annotations as she really hadn't expected him to make any. She never thought that he was the type of person to pay much attention in class, let alone take time out of his free time to do something like this.

A paper slipped off the bed and landed on the ground besides Harrys feet. "I'll get it." Steph said, not wanting Harry to stop what it was that he is doing.

"Uhm... you might want to move those." Steph said sheepishly, unsure if she should've said anything at all or just pretend as if she hadn't seen anything.

Harry looked down to see what it was that she was on about before his eyes grew wide. "They're my mums!" He blurted out, not even hesitating in giving an answer. "She came in with her hands full of laundry to collect mine and dropped some stuff. She said she'd come back later for it, but must've forgotten."

He quickly tried to kick them into the bin by his door, missing a few times before finally getting them in.

"Do you kick your mums underwear into a bin frequently?" She asked, trying not to let the laughter she was holding back from escaping her lips. It was obvious that she didn't buy into his little story, and he knew that, his face quickly turned pink as he couched, trying to ease his embarrassment.

She couldn't hold it in anymore, and the sound that Harry loved so much finally made its way through his room and stopping in his brain, resting there so he could play it over and over again. He could never get bored of that sound. That sweet sweet sound that he could never seem to forget. It gave him a high every time he had heard it, and every time it stops he wishes he had more to linger into. Her laugh was his drug. He was sure that it was the only thing that kept him functioning. And he couldn't believe that he had been lucky enough to have that laugh all to himself, not having to share it with anyone. He stood in amazement, a smile plastered on his face showing his dimples in all glory. He couldn't believe that he had made her laugh like that, and in his room too.

Monday had came and each set of pairs had handed in their english project, some more nervous than others about the work they had handed in to their skinny teacher.

Both Harry and Steph were fairly confident with the poems that they had chosen. They had made many strong points and comparisons of the two, so knew that they didn't have anything to worry about.

Despite the class being thrilled that their boring project was over, Steph couldn't help but be a little upset that it was, knowing that she now didn't have a reason to speak to Harry. She had never thought that Harry would even known that she existed, let alone someone like him actually talking to someone like her. And she couldn't help but enjoy his company and the way that he could make her laugh at silly little things. Harry had also been the first person to ever actually check up on her when something was wrong, and the only person to actually cheer her up.

She knew that she'd miss those little moment that they had shared together, and wanted to hold onto them for the rest of her life. She didn't want it to be over. She wanted to laugh with him again, even if it was going to be the last time.

But she would never tell him that - or anyone for that matter. It would just be another thing that she kept to herself, constantly playing at the back of her mind until the day she dies.

The students begin packing away, throwing their bags over their shoulders and making their way home after a very long day. "Want a ride?" A raspy voice panted. Harry had caught up to Steph, catching her by surprise.

"Oh." She said, shocked at the offer. "Thanks. but i think i'm just going to stay out for a while."

"Can i join?" Steph smiled at the request, not expecting Harry to speak to her now that he didn't have to, let alone actually wanting to spend time with her.

She nods as they make the way to his car, quickly getting in and driving away from the hell that they called a school. Steph had been giving Harry directions to the location that she wanted to go to. It wasn't anything exciting, just a place she liked to go sometimes when everything started to feel like too much and she needed to take a step away from everything happening around her.

They arrived at the small park - not too far from where Steph lives - which seemed to be completely forgotten about by the world. Maybe that was why she liked it so much. It was always empty, so she knew that she wouldn't be disturbed. She found comfort being there, smiling at the little park as she felt like she wasn't the only thing that was easily forgotten about and replaced.

"I didn't even know this place existed." Harry murmured, looking around at the park that he was seeing for the very first time.

Steph just shrugged, not surprised at his statement. "most people don't." She shrugged again as Harry looked at her, a look of amazement in his eyes.

"How did you find this place?" He asked, curious on how she had found something that he had no idea stood on the earth not too far away from where he lives. He would've thought that he knew that something like this was around, that at some point in his life before now he would've stumbled upon it, but he hadn't.

Steph took a seat on one of the old swings, causing it to give off a little squeak. "I like to get away sometimes." She simply states, as if it wasn't anything important.

Harry joined her on the neighbouring swing, looking at her in wonder. He wondered about her a lot. About little things that he wished he knew about her, such as her favourite food, colour, flower. What helps her fall asleep at night, all of her hopes and dreams. In this moment he only wondered what it was that was hung over her head, shading her white fluffy cloud and turning it a shade of grey. He wondered what it was that bothered her so much, what it was that made her feel like she had to escape everything. His mind was full of questions he wished he could ask, but couldn't. Would she had found it strange if he did? Or would she trust him enough to open up? He hoped it was the latter.
