3. told you so
It didn't take much longer for her to begin pushing through the crowd of people, still trying to find the person she had came here with. Although she stopped in her tracks when she felt a hand grab her wrist and pull her back to where she was just standing.
"I didn't know you were the party type." He says, his eyes never leaving hers.
For a moment she looked around awkwardly, unsure on what to do, hoping that Lexi would come save her, but also knowing just how much Lex would hate to see them together.
"And i didn't know you left your corner." She smirked.
Harry couldn't help but be taken back, unsure on how to respond. Nobody had ever really called him out before, so he was out of his element.
"Told you so." Steph smiles, noticing Harrys state of shock.
A laugh slipped his lips, it was the first party that he had been to where he had truly laughed at something without it being forced, even if it was only slightly. Of course, he would never let her know that.
"Right." Was all he said, before looking around the room to try and find something to say, the smile still printed on his face, leaving his pretty little dimple on full display.
Steph almost died right there and then. That damn dimple. She had always had a little crush on Harry. From the first time she saw him walk down the hall. But seeing him here, with a smile on his face, that was truly beautiful. And she was sure that it was her new favourite view.
She had never seen him smile before, and she doesn't think anyone has. He always seemed too look so serious. But right here, he was like someone else.
"Are you alone?" He asked, causing Steph to look away from his dimple and back at his green eyes.
"um- well, not really. I came here with a friend, but i lost her." She smiled, the awkwardness slowly taking hold of her again.
"I'm Harry." He says, holding his hand out as if she had no idea. She couldn't help but laugh, covering her face and looking down.
"I know." She laughed again, quickly looking across the room to avoid all embarrassment before meeting his gaze again. "Not in a weird 'i stalk you' way, just-"
"Just observant." He cuts in, smiling even more.
"Exactly. I'm Steph" She smiles, playing with her fingers before taking his hand.
"Well, Steph, i won't lie, i never thought i'd see you in a dress." He says, almost choking on his drink as he realises just how odd that sounds.
It was now Steph who wasn't too sure what to say. "I mean, you've only seen my once, and that was earlier today, so you wouldn't really know what it is that i wear." She smiles.
Harry couldn't help but laugh a little at her logic. She really was clueless. "You know, just because we haven't spoken before doesn't mean i haven't seen you before." He smiles back at her, unsure of the feeling he has inside of him.
"We might not have the same group of friends or the same interests, but i've seen you about." He finishes.
"Isn't the social ladder supposed to stop you from seeing people like me?" She asks, truly interested in what it is he says.
"The social ladder is a load of bullshit if you ask me."
They talk for hours, completely unaware of everything around them, the occasional drunk pushing past or crashing into them.
If only they had been paying a little more attention, maybe then Steph would've realised that her lost friend was no longer lost. In fact, she was in the very same room as them, watching them laugh and talk.
Lexi was having fun until then. She had been doing whatever it was that she could all night to climb up the social ladder. She even managed to befriend the popular girls. Even though she hated that they all also had a crush on Harry, she couldn't help but be glad that she had made it that far throughout the night, and she knew that she could use them to her advantage.
She began whispering into their ears, pointing over to Harry and Steph, before following her new friends over to Harrys group. The most popular guys in school. They all began whispering to each other - well, as far as whispering goes in a party. Zayn quickly looked over to his friend, not too happy with Harrys choice of company. After all. Harry was somebody and Stephanie was not.
The drunk bodies began to surround both Harry and Steph, making it hard for them to talk. It was clear that they were both getting rather annoyed by it.
"Do you want to go somewhere else?" Harry asked, not wanting to spend another second being pushed into the wall.
"Actually, i think it's probably time for me to leave." She smiled, looking around one last time to see if she could find Lexi so they could leave together.
"would you like a ride? You know, not exactly safe to walk home in the dark and it's not the safest to get into a cab alone either." Harry asked, genuinely worried about her wellbeing.
"Are you sure that's safe?" She asked, knowing that Harry had been drinking.
"I've had one drink all night. I got a bit distracted." He smiled, and she could tell that he was being honest.
"Would that be okay?"
"Of course!"
They immediately made their way through the kitchen, pushing through an insane amount of bodies. Harry quickly took ahold of Stephanie's hand, causing her to look back quickly, shocked that someone like him would ever hold her hand. They made it through to the hall, the door finally in sight.
Suddenly, a cold liquid landed over Stephs chest, soaking her and the small dress she was in. She pulled her hand out of Harrys from shock, leaving him standing behind her confused.
"Whoops!" The slim blonde says, laughing, Lexi hiding behind her doing the same.
It was no accident, that was clear. Steph didn't care much about the situation though, she just wanted to go home and get changed. Maybe that was why she didn't pay enough attention to notice Lexi.
She quickly pushed past and made it outside, Harry right behind her. "Are you okay?" He asked, slightly worried.
"Yeah, i'm fine. I'm just wet." She says before she had time to think it through.
Both of them immediately started laughing at her poor choice of words. "Here, take my hoodie" He says, pulling the large item over his head and handing it to her. "Oh, and here's a few tissues." He says, pulling the packet out from his car and handing them to her also.
"Thank you." She smiles, taking them from him and wiping her chest until it is dry. She slides Harrys hoodie over her hair carefully, making sure it doesn't touch the now soaking dress. She holds it out from her body with one hand before using her other to unzip the dress under and slide the thin material off, using the last few tissues to dry where the dress was before letting the hoodie hang naturally.
"I honestly can't thank you enough!" She says as she shuts the passenger door and strapping in.
"Don't worry about it." He smiles before turning on the engine.
