Soccer and . . .

^ Amelia Rays on the cover of a mag (but imagine her with blonde hair) I chose Peyton List to portray her character.

Chapter 19 : Soccer

Xavier has a serious obsession with wavelengths.

I looked at the two of his siblings standing in front of us. A girl my height, looking slightly older- maybe Peter's age, with dyed caramel blonde hair and big brown eyes that stands out with the perfectly put make up, which makes her appear even prettier then she already is. Her hair falls on her shoulder and she flips it back before placing her black derby hat, atop her head. It matches the black and white shirt she wears, along with her black blazer folded to her elbows revealing purple revers topped with black skinny jeans. Now I know where Xavier gets his fashion sense from.

The boy clutching her hand, Silver's younger brother, maybe four or five years of age, has jet black hair, probably the natural colour of his two siblings hair as well and is sporting a blue spiderman t-shirt and shorts. He looks a bit like Xavier but is so damn cute! I think my inner girl is squealing. I mean those cheeks, he has dimples! And his eyes are so huge! I wish I had such long eyelashes. Why couldn't he be his brother's age?

"Rose this is Violet and Gammy, siblings this is my friend Rose," Xavier says introducing me with a seeping gesture of his hand.

"Hi, I'm Amelia," The girl smiles extending her hand. "My stupid brother here seems to have a problem with remembering names"

I laugh shaking her hand. "I know the feeling, my names Daniella not Rose"

"Oh? He gave you a Rays nickname? " Amelia frowns, creasing her perfect eyebrows and glancing between the two of us with an uncomfortable interest.

"Okay, sister you met her, Bro?" Xavier interrupts her puzzlement and my own.

"Hi," The boy says shyly hiding behind his sister. "I'm Blake"

"Aww you so cute, can I hug you?" I coo crouching at his level, opening my arms. He looks at his siblings and they nod. The boy is so adorable. Plus his hugs are awesome.

"You're a fan of Spiderman?" I ask Xavier's adorable brother motioning to his shirt.

"The biggest," Blake answers his eyes gleaming with ebullience. "You like spiderman to?"

"Of course, he's amazing," I agree picking him up.

I catch Silver smiling from the corner of my eye. He really loves his family. There no doubting that. The exterior shell is just a way to keep people away. Who knew Xavier could be a softie?

"Sorry bro, I have to go, you now how the girls are, Blake you coming?" Amelia waves titling her head towards the door. It was nice meeting you Danny"

"I want to stay with Xavvy and Danny, she's cool," Blake pouts, I glance at Xavier and laugh at his nickname.

He takes his brother of my shoulder. Who very reluctantly releases his hold on me.

"Alright little webhead time to go," Silver squeezes the boy in a hug before giving his sister one as well. "Stay safe," He says sternly and kisses her forehead.

"You too Xavier, I mean it," Amelia gives him s pointed look before walking out of the house. "Watch your leg will you?"

With that they're gone.

Woah, wait a minute, if that's his entire family and his parents aren't at home then that means . . .

"Soooo . . . What you want to do," Xavier asks putting his hands in his pockets rocking on the heels of his feet the metal bracing around his foot making a clicking noise and looking at me awkwardly. "There a games room or home theatre, what do you prefer?"

I look at him with a questionable look. "So you're not going to tell me about your family?"

He runs a hand through his hair messing it up and shrugs. "Well, I didn't expect them to leave and you did say we have to get to know each other to be friends"

I stroll to the lounge the awkwardness still lingering, I sit down and he does to on the opposite couch.

"You know, I really thought your siblings were Violet and Gammy, had me fooled for a second," I cross my legs flipping through the magazine lying on the table.

He laughs. "Really Rose? I thought you were smarter than that?"

I roll my eyes contradicting his incorrect statement at once."Well it's not my fault you have a fetish for wavelengths"

"Hey, you have a thing for facts so don't judge," Xavier holds up his hands defensively. What does he think? I'll hit him with a magazine? Actually on second thought . . .

"What about the french sayings, huh?" I raise a taunting eyebrow.

"You're the one with an obsession of red," He stands up holding out his hand. "This is dumb, let's go do something," Xavier grabs my hand pulling me to my feet.

"Excuse me?"

Silver facepalms. "Gosh Rose, I meant play fuseball on the roof not like that,"

Oh, okay then . . .

My bad.

Xavier walks in front leading me upstairs. There's frames on the walls I notice as we walk, pictures of Amelia, Blake and Xavier along with their parents. It's like as we go up further the frames tell the story of the Rays family. At the bottom of the stairs is pictures of just Amelia some with Xavier as well and both their parents. But it's like once Blake was born, Mrs Rays stopped appearing in the photos.

I wonder what Xavier's parents are like. His mum shares the amber eyes but it's a lot more sparkly and bright- like Silver as a kid. She has short black hair and is really beautiful with a lovely smile. Mr Rays on the other hand has ash blond hair and dark brown almost black eyes. They're showing love at first but as the years go by they get steel like.

"One more set of stairs wanna race to the roof ?" Xavier asks breaking me out of my thoughts. He looks at the frames and his face hardens.

"You have a sprained ankle," I deadpan pointing at the metal bracing. "How were we supposed to race?"

He gives out a nonchalant shrug and pulls out a piece of paper from behind one of the frames, before handing it to me. Of course he can do that.

"What's this?" I frown taking a closer look. It has Xavier and his three friend's names along with a time. Trey having the shortest amount of seconds, then Xavier Jackson not far behind with Mark having the longest.

"It's a record of how long we take to get up the two flights of stairs," He explains tapping the page with his finger. "It's we're going to be friends, you might as well set a record Rose, who knows you could beat Trey"

"Okay," I nod as a mischievous grin sets on my face. "I'll do it"

"Yeah?"

This is ridiculous.

Silver starts a timer letting me sprint the stairs laughing as exhilaration pumos through me, adrenling flowing, when I heard him swear after falling with a echoing thud. Gosh the stairs are high like what fifty steps? I see the light finally my speed decreasing as I struggle to make it up, the adrenaline gone and my breaths shortening. I grip my knees and trudge up the last few stairs out of air. Finally at the top I collapse on the soft grass around me ignorant of my surroundings.

I see a shadow hovering over me and look up to see Xavier with a smirk on his face. "Nice climb?"

"Shut up," I reply using him to wake up. "I need water"

He shakes his head and walks away leaving me to look around. We're on the roof, standing in a sort of astro turf, there's a small, water tank in the furthest corner where Silver is. I walk to the edge, the cool breeze slashing my face, it's getting cold. I look down crossing my arms on the ledge and see the entire property, the garden outside, a big fountain standing in the middle, perfectly groomed plants, the grass all neatly grown. Potplants and statues fill empty spaces and hang on walls. The city beyond looks tiny from here, despite being only a few stories high. I gasp in awe.

"So do you know how to play football?"

I turn around and see Xavier standing with a ball in his hand, his eyebrows raised in question, he spins the ball on his finger and holds it out to me. A smile tugs in the corner of my mouth as I take out my shoes and socks letting the grass tickle my feet.

"Perhaps," I shrug my answer vague. "But there's only one way to find out"

With that I kick the ball out of his hands and run down the grassy field enjoying the wind blowing in my hair and the freedom to play football. I hear Xavier's footsteps as he runs after me catching up quickly. Darn his long legs.

"You never fail to surprise me Rose," He smiles, stealing the ball from me.

I run after him, heat rushing to my cheeks, but I don't see my shoes and end up tripping, which caused me to fall on Xavier ungracefully.

"Um . . . Sorry?" I say trying to get up. Silver doesn't respond but just stares at me. "What's wrong? Is there grass on my face? Ugh, this happened before. " I wipe my face looking for any blades of grass and find none.

Xavier pinches the bridge of his nose and helps me up. His daze gone. What was that about?

"Here's the water you asked for," He says picking up a bottle

"Oh, uh yeah," I reply rubbing my arm as I accept the bottle. That must be why my mouth is gone so dry.

We sit down, a comfortable wave of silence passes and neither of us say a word as we listen to the noise around us. I pluck out the grass and hum softly.

"It's really nice up here," I say softly. "Your siblings seem really nice, Blake's wonderful, it must be lively at home"

He looks at me for a second, something passes in his eyes. "Well actually no, dad's always working, Violet is hardly at home, she's a model so she's always going from country to country and Blake he's just a kid that loves spiderman," He sighs twirling some blades of grass."How about you?"

I shrug. "It's just my older brother and I, he's in uni and my parents to work a lot, education is very important in my family"

"Same with us, dad was furious when Violet wanted to go into modelling, but she's now a world known fashion designer as well, which I find amazing at just nineteen"

"That is pretty young," I nod understandingly. "My brother went into boxing, but even though they didn't approve of it, my parents supported him"

"So Rose, happy to know about me, are we friends?" Xavier smiles holding out a hand.

I return the gesture a smile large as his own and shake is hand. "Friends"

Xavier looks content with that and leans back on the grass,"You have the time?"

"Almost five," I respond looking at my wristwatch.

He curses under his breath jerking up, I frown in shock. "What's wrong ?"

"My dad. Flip Ugh! Rose get your stuff we need to leave right now!" Xavier's voice is urgent and I nod my head before pulling on my trainers not bothering to ask any questions at the time.

So many thoughts fill my mind, but instead I just follow Xavier back downstairs. As we race down, his hand pulling mine we get to the door and I see a man with the same hair and eyes from the frames.

Xavier's father.

The man looks at his son's hand intertwined with mine, immediately his face hardens. His and Xavier's features are the same except his father has a neat goatee and visible whitehairs.

"The hell? Xavier what did I say about your girlfriends?" The man bellows, his voice freaking me out. Silver doesn't seem to mind and gives his father the same look.

Girlfriends? As in plural. But Bec said he only dated Stephanie. Unless I was mistaken as the second.

I want to say I'm not but Xavier beats me to it, pulling his warm hand out of mine. "Father, she's just a friend and we were just leaving"

"You will come back immediately after you drop her off," Mr Rays scolds looking at me with piercing black eyes.

"Good bye, dad," Silver sneers equally fierce. They both look murderous at the moment. I hate being unaware and in the middle of it. I know a murderous when I see one because honestly if looks could kill . . .

"Uh . . . Sorry for the inconvenience," I rush an apology leaving. I feel like shit.

Halfway through a silent drive Xavier speaks up. "So I didn't want you to find out like this-"

"Hey if you're not ready to tell me something then it's fine with me, wee friends now remember? I trust you," I interrupt holding out my hand.

Ugh, when did I get so sappy?

"No, Rose I need to tell, someone else this, only Jackson knows, but the truth is gnawing at me," He sighs shaking his head.

I don't think I've ever seen Xavier Rays looking so helpless.

He always knows what to do, when to so what and how to solve situations. Always calm and collected even whilst he's fighting someone.

"What truth?"

The car stops t my house, I give him a lot to continue. "My dad . . . He got me engaged to that beach Stephanie, it's horrible, why do you think I dated her? I didn't want to, I was forced"

I'm taken aback, he said so little but it meant so much. "So . . . What now?"

"I don't know . . . I made a deal with that slug so she wouldn't tell my father about our breakup but it isn't good enough, Stephanie is a backstabbing beach, Rose, she can turn on me anytime, I'm stuck," he grips the steering wheel.

"If there's anything I can do, let me know," I smile gently opening the door.

"Sorry about my dad, he's just so . . . Frustrating," Silver apologises farrowing his brows sadly.

He apologised.

Something he never does.

"It's okay, get home in time," I reply getting out of the car, kissing his cheek as I leave.

Woah, where did that come from? Silver also looks shocked for a second but gathers his composure quickly.

"Aww you care about me Rose, but no way I'm going back there, nah I'm crashing at Jackson's"

I sigh at his nonchalance. "TTFN"

"Au revoir," he winks speeding off.

My parents are too chilled. They didn't even notice I came home like two hours after school ended. I went straight to my room and threw myself on my bed, thinking of how my life got so crazy. There's a big match against Thornfalls which I still haven't sorted out- my alter ego dealing with his - my- our, whatever problems. Good thing exams are over so I can focus on my football. Silver decides to barge into my life dragging his drama. Stephanie hates me more than ever. And what the hell is up with Audrey?

I really hope now that Xavier and the other guys accept my horrid secret which should be my foremost problem. Honestly I enjoy their company. It's weird because I judged them all without even getting to know them. Especially Silver. Tomorrow's Saturday so no training which means I can sleep in and watch football from midday to midnight.

Before I can close my eyes a message pops up on my phone. It says Xavier. Wait how did he get my number? That sneaky mustard. I change the contact to Silver Idiotic Rays.

Silver idiotic Rays :
