Louise's POV

Coming out of the restaurant feeling very full, I looked admiringly over to Conor who gazed back at me.

"Thank you for a wonderful meal!" I said. It had been the best date I could have asked for; just us, sitting there away from problems and troubles, being able to talk about anything and everything and laugh and feel comfortable.

"Don't thank me, it's the least I can do for you!" He put his arm round my waist as we walked back to his bike. Stopping in front of it I turned round and faced him.

"You look wonderful today..." I said shyly as I looked him up and down again, taking in the beautiful figure stood in front of me.

"You look beautiful today. I was going to say it when you came in but my mum stole you away from me!" He laughed. "But yeah, you look fantastic. I'm a lucky man!"

"And I'm a lucky girl!" I said, barely able to contain the grin spread across my face. Conor leant down and placed a soft kiss on my lips which I quickly returned. Conor's head stayed inches from mine.

"I've got a surprise for you tonight." He smiled as he handed me my helmet and gloves. I shook my head and put them on, jumping on the bike as quick as I could.

"You've done more than enough for me, Conor!" I said as soon as I could into the intercom.

"I could never do enough." He said back, flirtily. We drove away from the restaurant and headed in the direction of my house. I felt bad he probably wouldn't meet my family; I was never on good enough terms with my mum and sister to have a conversation with them let alone invite my boyfriend round. Conor would unfortunately never meet the guy who meant so much to me and who he had so much in common with. It was upsetting, but I knew at one point I could build up the courage to ask him to come to the cemetery with me. I don't want to freak him out just yet. Driving past my house, it suddenly dawned on me I had absolutely no idea where we were heading.

"I've got somewhere I need to stop before we get to my surprise, if that's alright?" He asked me carefully.

"Of course, whatever you need to do!" I said back. He's the one driving me around and paying for my meal, I can hardly say no! We slowed down and came to a halt; I must have been in my own world that whole journey. I looked to my right and saw a building I recognised, the florist that I used to buy flowers for my dad from... Which can only mean... I looked to my left and we'd stopped at the cemetery. A load of emotions hit me at once; shock, upset, happiness, confusion.

"Feel free to say no, but I thought I could meet your dad..." Conor said, standing awkwardly, not knowing if he'd done the right or wrong thing. He took his helmet and gloves off and helped with mine before leaving them in the top box of his bike.

"Yeah, I mean, sure... I just..." I could barely construct a sentence. Come on Louise! Sort it out. "Yes. I'd love for you to meet him! Sorry, it was just a shock that we came here!" Conor held his hand out and I put my hand in his, our fingers intertwining. I lead him into the cemetery where I strangely felt at home in and walked him to the best looking headstone in the whole place (I'm bias of course). The black marble headstone had a small picture of my dad in the right corner in a gold frame, the lettering in gold read:
Forever in our thoughts,
Forever in our hearts,
You've meant the world to us,
From the very start.

Phillip Redford
5/6/1968 – 2/1/2013

Conor stared down at the headstone and gripped my hand tighter. I didn't know if he knew he was gripping my hand any harder.

"He looks like a great man." Conor said after a while of silence. "I'm so sorry." I laughed.

"It's alright, I'm glad you met him. You remind me of him, you have similar hobbies and stuff." I smiled. "Thank you for coming here." He looked over to me, a look of empathy on his face.

"It's fine. I had to meet him. You must be so proud of him. I'm sure he's looking down proudly on you right now!" He smiled at me.

"I hope so. I want him to be proud of me." He nodded in agreement. "So what about your dad?" I asked, slightly scared I might be digging into something Conor didn't want to talk about.

"He left us all. He just got up and walked out. Haven't seen him since. And I'm glad of it." Conor said, sharply.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that!" I said sympathetically. "How old were you?"

"It was only a few months before I knew you." He said. "This year." My jaw dropped. What reason on this earth could possibly make someone leave the family they've had for that many years?

"Oh, I am sorry to hear that..." I said, inside I was angry. I knew that family and I couldn't see any problems; they were kind and loving. Yeah Conor got in trouble at school but so did I. He should have tried to deal with my family!

"He's nothing to me. I've got everyone I need." Conor said, his eyes fixated on the gravestone.

"As long as you're happy, I'm happy." I put my arm around Conor's waist and rested my head against his arm.

"And as long as I have you, my mum and my brother I'm happy." He smiled, but it wasn't genuine, I could tell.

"You want to get out of here then?" I asked, sensing he was probably feeling a little weird about this whole thing. It meant more to me than he can ever know, but I don't want him to feel forced to stay here forever.

"Only if you want to go..." Conor said. I felt so happy to have him.

"Honestly, it was amazing that you bought me here, thank you! But I think they close in a bit anyway, we may as well make a move." I said, my heart breaking at the thought of leaving my dad's grave and not knowing when I was going to be back.

"It was lovely meeting your dad though!" He put his arm around my shoulders. "He seems like a great guy." We walked out of the cemetery, the warmth and closeness of Conor keeping me going as I left my dad again.

"So where are we going?" I ask, hoping to know. Conor smirked at me.

"Nice try, Redford." He rolled his eyes. "It's a surprise!"

Conor's POV

We arrived at the place I'd been planning taking her to for ages. We were finally there. I pulled the bike up onto the kerb and switched it off, kicking the bike stand out and helping Louise off before I got off. I collected the helmets and gloves and locked them away. A smile grew on my face as I saw the reddening sky. This meant it was time for the sun to set. I asked her to shut her eyes and I grabbed onto her arm, walking her along a few pathways until we reached the highest point of the cliffs that overlooked our town. The sky was setting just behind the outskirts of the town and the taller buildings were becoming darkened silhouettes against the red sky.

"Ok, open your eyes!" I said, a grin on my face. I really hope she likes it! "I hope you haven't peeked!"

"I haven't!" She protested. "I've been good! I love surprises!" She slowly opened her eyes as I let go of her arm and she gasped, putting her hands over her mouth. "Oh My God! Conor! It's beautiful!" She looked out along the skyline, shock obvious on her face. The sun was setting just behind the group of office buildings in the centre of town. Even I was shocked at just how beautiful it was. I'd been here before, but it was all made better by the company.

"Are you telling me you've never been here before?" I said, a little shocked at how much she reacted to it. She shook her head.

"I didn't even think you could do this..." Her chin quivered. "Thank you so much. This is perfect." She threw herself onto me and hugged me tightly. "You're perfect." She added.

"Not as perfect as you!" I teased as I pulled her in tightly. Nothing felt better in my life than this moment, the moment I was with the woman I love, in a place I loved to come to get away from everything. As the hug ended and she pulled away, I took my jumper off and lay it on the floor for her to sit on. She sat down on it and I sat next to her, putting my arm round her.

"It's lovely here, eh?" I couldn't hide how happy I was.

"It's beautiful." She said, gobsmacked. Hugging into each other, we watched the sun set over the town and the moon shine over it. We watched as the street lamps came on, the house lights lit up and the whole town become illuminated. "Thank you for everything, Conor. I love you." She said before we shared a kiss.

"I love you too, Louise. I'm so happy I'm with you."

THE END.
