Connie had absolutely no idea what was in the punch.

Her guess?

Neither did Steven.

Sadie and Shep had gotten married and Steven and Connie were among the few invited to the after party. There were maybe, 50, 60 people there and Steven intended to meet every one of them. Connie mingled with the Beach City residents mostly, before she went to sit by herself and people watch.

She was drinking water when she saw the punch. It was a turquoise color and had foam coating the top. She laddled a bit into a cup and took a swig. She immediately spit it out. She knew that taste. Kool-aid, Sprite and about 15 kinds of alcohol were mixed into the punch. She sniffed the air, wondering how the blue raspberry scent masked the acrid alcohol smell so well.

Lars and the off colors were just about to leave when the Rhodenite twins started to vomit. Everyone gave a sympathetic 'oooohhh.' as they let it out.

Connie chuckled and figured it was about time to go home. Standing, she went to go find Steven. Weaving through the crowds and clusters of groups she looked for the thousand watt smile she loved so dearly. They had been dating for around 5 years now, and although Connie was content as could be, she couldn't help the twang of jealousy as people started tapping their glasses and Shep and Sadie leaned in for a sweet kiss. Her jealousy was soon replaced by confusion. She had been walking through the crowd for 5 minutes and still no Steven.

"Connie!" She jumped as she heard her name jovially called out.

She turned to see Steven bounding toward her full speed. Diamond speed. Fast enough to leave skid marks. He skidded to a stop in front of her just before he would have made her one. "You're here!" He beamed.

"Yes I am. I've been here the whole time, Biscuit." She laughed at his shocked expression. "We came together."

"Oohhhh yeahhhhhhh." He drawled before hiccuping.

"Uh, Steven?" Connie started narrowing her eyes.

"Yes, Co-nnie?" He giggled and put his hands on her shoulder.

"Have you by any chance been drinking the lovely blue punch on that table?"

"I don't drink punch... I drink slap." He burst out laughing as if he had told the greatest joke ever. He was doubled over and people were starting to glance over.

"Steven," Connie mustered her 'Mahashwaren Mom voice' and pursed her lips. "Are you drunk?"

"Yes, I think so." He was gazing off into the distance.

Connie snapped her fingers in front of his face. "Where'd you get it?" She inquired turning his head to face her.

"I took it." He started to tip over a bit and Connie clapped her hands to startle him onto his feet. She turned to the side to take a deep breath. She let out a giggle but then became serious. She turned back to him, but he was 20 feet away.

He was scanning the crowd with a dreamy smile on his face. She went over and asked him where he got his drink from again. "Took drinks... to be polite." He gave her a boyish grin. "Buck offered me some and," he hiccuped again and seemed to be changing gears before putting another thought into words. "I... can we...go home?" he suddenly asked.

Connie snorted and nodded before motioning for him to follow her. She was silently thanking her lucky stars she had caught him at this point.

She stopped in her tracks and turned to the man. "Steven, how many drinks did you take?"

"Buck, Lars, Shep, Amethyst gave me this many!" He held up two fingers and gave her another large smile.

"She gave you two?!" Connie seethed.

"Yes...because I have been really good," he said the last part proudly as if she had said he was top of the class.

Connie did the math and nearly screamed with exasperation. "Steven you've had five?!?" Connie whisper yelled. She mentally made a note to whoop Amethysts ass when she got the chance.

He nodded, his grin growing into a two thousand watt smile.

"Why?" She asked incredulous.

"I was. Offered. So I took it." His sentences were starting to get choppy and disjointed.

"To be polite?" Connie finished.

"To be polite." He gave her an affirming nod.

"Lets get you home, big guy." She said amused and exasperated at the same time.

"Awwww BUT WHYYYY?" Steven all but yelled. People were definitely staring now and even whispering. "I changed my mind I wanna stay..."

"Steven Quartz Cutie Pie DeMayo Diamond Universe! Lower your voice!" Connie squeaked. "We are going home because you, sir, are very very inebriated!"

He stayed quiet as she lead him towards the car only to be pulled back as he dead weighted and sat on the sand.

Annoyed, his girlfriend turned around, ready to reprimand him only to see a single tear slide down his cheek. She softened and knelt down to meet his gaze.

"Oh Bisky... whats wrong?" She cooed wiping away his tears.

"We gotta help them." He whimpered.

"Help who, baby?"

"The corrupted gems." He wailed. More tears were coming down his heartbroken face.

"Steven, they are already fixed." Connie tilted her head.

He nodded as if assuring himself and stumbled towards the car and into the passenger seat without her asking. They pulled away from the party and headed to their beach house. Steven was breathing softly and he began to mumble incoherently.

"Steven?"

"Close my eyes,
Let down my hair.
I'm thinkin' bout what I want
Gonna take me there." He sang a little louder so she could hear. He hiccuped twice and then sighed.

She chuckled. "I love that song."

"You?" He huffed in frustration and tried again. "You'll sing along?"

Connie smiled softly. "I don't think so, Steven."

"Okay..." he said dejectedly turning his head to look out the window again. Silence filled the car as he unintentionally pouted.

Connie sighed. "Turn the dial,
On the stereo.
I'm thinkin' bout who I want
And I won't let go."

Steven joined in for the chorus.

"You can't hold me now,
Only I can do that
You can't hold me now,
Only I can do that
You can't hold me now,
Only I can do that." Steven tapered off again, looking at Connie lovingly as she finished.

"You can't hold me now
Hold me now, oo oo oo." She smiled happily, almost glowing. She looked over at Steven to see his face scrunched up in thought. "What is it now Biscuit?"

"Did you write that song?" He asked seriously.

Connie finally let the laughter out as she cackled loudly. Wiping away the tears, she simpered. "No, Steven."

"Why nawt?" His words were becoming increasingly slurred as they pulled in the driveway.

"Because she thought of it first." She said getting out and walking around to his side.

"Who?"

"Emily King." She said trying to move him to no avail.

"Are you Emily King? Cause if you are," he started before she could answer, "If you are, you gonna haff ta change it to Masha---" he inhaled and tried again. "Mash... maswalan.... whatever your last name is to my last name after it." He stuck out his lip as she laughed at his struggles. He gave her a cocky smirk. "Cause I'm gonna marry you." He said.

Connie looked at him, and for that moment, he looked and sounded stone cold sober. "Promise?"

"I swear on everything I've ever loved." He assured.

And then he fell out of the car and landed face down onto the pavement.

Connie whistled for Lion and soon he was there looking down at Stevens unconscious body quizzically. "He's been drinking." Connie supplied.

Lion growled and gently picked him up in his mouth and followed Connie inside to put him in bed. 'Note to self: Steven is tolerable whem drunk. But barely.'

A/N: well, now we know how he handles his drinks 🤣
