Goodness Gracious

Hands shoved deeply in his pockets, Steven followed Connie idly. Each step exuded lazy contemplation at the wall of different patterns and colors before them.

"How about that one?" He pointed with his elbow at a white carpet sample.

Connie scoffed. "Steven! No sane person would ever by a pure white carpet! They stain much too easily!"

Rolling his eyes, he continued along with her. She suddenly stopped just as he started to drift into his own head making him almost trample her.

Scanning each and every grain of each and every square was tedious in his opinion. But it made her happy to have some house projects to be doing so he just shrugged it off.

"Hmmm.."

"Oooo! Connie what about this one?" He grabbed at patch of black sample.

She wrinkled her nose. "We're decorating our house, not a casket." She reminded him.

"What are we even looking for?" Steven whined dragging his feet.

"A white carpet sample that-"

"Did you not just say you didnt want white?"

"No, I want white, but with a hint of blue. Like a light light blue. Like the sky without the hint of grey."

He chuckled and ran his fingers through his hair in half mock exasperation. "Okay, Berry."

Connie had to crane her neck to see the top of the display, and Steven had to hold back a giggle every time. She was so cute and tiny. Her 5'11 compared to his 7'1 made her seem miniscule when in reality, she was pretty tall for a girl. Still, the way her lips parted as she looked up, her eyes widening in an almost innocent way...

It was precious. And by far the only part of carpet shopping he was enjoying. Stepping a bit closer, he gave her bottom a light pinch.

Yelping, Connie turned and swatted at the hybrids wayward hand. "Stop it, I'm trying to focus." She scolded.

"And I'm trying to get laid." He retorted, giving her ass a firm smack. Before she could respond, he pulled another sample out. "This guy. Its name is 'Snow on the Mountain." He smiled proudly.

Shaking her head, she looked the square out of his hand and put it back. "That ones too blue. I want a color like Pearls shirt, without the hint of green."

"So, you want blue?" He questioned dubiously.

"No!" Connie sighed and facepalmed. "I want white! Whitish blue! But not too blue!"

Steven scoffed. "Well, I liked 'Snow on the Mountain'." He huffed.

"Well, I dont want 'Snow on the Mountain'." Connie said through gritted teeth.

"Maybe, just maybe, and hear me out on this one; maybe you just need to compromise." He caught her gaze and held it, mesmerized by the pools of dark brown.

"I compromise!"

Steven let out a snort and pinched her cheek. "Remember when you wanted Chinese and I wanted Mexican, so instead of ordering both you insisted you'd eat Mexican even though your stomach cant handle it. So after that, you pouted for an entire day."

"It was not an entire day!" Connie reddened at the memory. "I was just tired!"

"Yeah okay. So what about the time you whooped my ass after finding me at the bar?"
He laughed in slight embarrassment and continued on. "For your 13th birthday, you wanted me to be at your party. Your parents didnt want me to be the only friend at a family get together. So instead they told you I could come over afterwards. But NOOOOOOO. You refused to join your party. Or when you wanted the last bite of cheesecake, instead of splitting it, you had me eat it instead."

Connie gripped the cart trying to look like she was barely listening. "Besides the 13th party, I dont see anything wrong with my behaviors in any of those situations." She lifted her chin in denial and pursed her lips, making Steven chortle.

She turned and placed her hands on his chest, seductively tracing the collar of his shirt. She smirked up at his shocked expression as he semi-hardened in his pants. "I always wanted to marry a doctor. I wanted to be the wife of a physician or a surgeon." Steven blinked at her abrupt confession. Placing his hands on her hips he pulled her closer. "Instead.... I am with a Diamond. Son of a dictator. The savior of the galaxy." Standing on her tip toes to reach Stevens ear, she bit under his ear and murmered, "And I couldn't be happier."

Letting lose a quiet growl, Steven smirked.

"And one day, you'll marry that Diamond."

"You really think so?"

"I intend on marrying my jam bud." He said seriously. "Unless....unless you leave me." His voice dropped to a hoarse whisper at the last part.

"That would be extremely difficult and stupid for me to do." Connie assured.

They went silent for around 15 minutes, still peering at samples. Connie still shooting down every suggestion of carpet Steven had with a wrinkle of her nose or a shake of her head.

"Im glad you compromised." Steven said after awhile.

"Huh?" Connie turned to catch his gaze.

"Well," he started, running his hand over his face, "You could've had anybody. Anybody at all. But you chose me. Your life could have been so much less stressful and more relaxed." He bit his cheek in deep thought, his brows furrowing.

"Oh Steven." Connie simpered. "Steven, Steven, Steven..." She gave him a lopsided grin and said, "I would choose you again and again and again."

Stevens eyes watered and Connie wiped the few quiet tears off his face before they both went silent again.

They meandered for another hour, light colors suddenly becoming obnoxious in their eyes.

Sighing, Connie leaned against Steven, her face buried in his chest, feeling the vibrations of his voice as he asked if she was okay.

Connie murmured something, but it was lost in his girth.

"Come again?" Steven leaned his head down to better hear her.

"I want 'Snow On The Mountain'." She said dejectedly.

"What?" Steven said cheekily? "Was that my Connie compromising?!"

"No, I just decided to go with the one you liked!"

"I couldn't care less about 'Snow On The Mountain'. I could not possibly care any less than I do right now." He pointed at the floor and laughed.

Connies jaw dropped. "You said you liked that one!" She whisper yelled as they headed towards the checkout. "I even compromised!"

"Come on, Connie." Steven looked to the sky in aggravation and then cupped her face in his large hands. "We've been at the mall for four hours and have been looking at samples for three and a half. I'm glad you compromised but ," he smirked kissing her in between each word. "It's time *chu* to *chu* go *chu* home!"
