Chapter 49
All In Time
T.A.2710
~"White walls surround us,
No light will touch your face again.
Rain taps the windows,
As we sleep among the dead.
Days go on forever,
But I have not left your side.
We can chase the dark together,
If you go then so will I." - Anthem of the Angles - Breaking Benjamin~

3rd POV
There was once a tale of its power, but now, it says to be myth. No one knows of its great works, for no one has seen it.
The tale of the Áthel; was a gift to the Elves, crafted by the Dwarves, with all the jewels under the mountains of Middle-earth, dipped in mithril so it would never break.
Representing something far beyond the time of their creation.
There were only five pair ever made.
After the War, they were said to be destroyed. For Saron wanted them for their power.
He failed to know the true meaning of their power. Being so, they were useless to him.
The Áthel did not get its power from wrath, control, and hate. But from understanding, compassion, and love.
The myth, now legend goes;
"They were made for two to be one.
Alone they are nothing, but together.
Bounded by blood, shall be the cost.
Started by the one who had nothing to lose.
Ending with the one who had nothing to gain.
To protect the heart they stand.
Even if it takes the others life."

Bruinen
She sang, she begged, and she prayed to the Valar for them to spare him.
She wanted to see him smile again, she wanted to see his bright blue eyes filled with life, wanting them to open again.
She wanted him alive.
As she cried, the scars on her face will not only tell the story of the warg attack, but on how it will change everything.
From the scar that scrapped her eye, two drops fell onto a jewel, more colorful than the rainbow.
Going unknowingly to her.
The amount of blood she lost finally caught up with her, now her head rested on the Prince's shoulder.
Now just looks as they are sleeping, waiting for the storm to pass.
As if the Áthel was a sponge, it soaked up the blood and tears, vanishing as if it was never there.
Then the strangest thing began to occur, both jewels around their necks began to glow, having a light blue tint to them.
The jewels lit up the cave, like a beacon.
Then as quickly as it appeared it faded.
Leaving them in the dark.
The choices they have made brought them here.
Alone, in a cave with no one coming.
Listing, to the rain that drowned their cries.
Dead, laying against one another.
Seeing, nothing but darkness.
~~~
Rivendell
The rain finally secede, nothing but the moon and puddles remained.
Lord Elrond, along with his sons; Elladan, and Elrohir waited patiently for the Prince and Lìvia, to return.
Of course the rain may have caused a slight delay.
Elrond became worried, but did not want to think of something worse, that had become of them.
A faint sound of hooves pounding the stone bridge, gave Elrond relief at last.
That is till it was clear the saddles were empty, with no rider upon them.
Easily identified as the two young elves' horses who left just a few days before.
Meríco stood on his grand hind legs, neighing and snorting in a frenzy. Followed by Legolas' pale white horse doing the same as Meríco.
Elladan and Elrohir quickly ran down the stone steps trying to calm them.
Elrond then called for Glorfindel to help aid his sons to find Legolas and Lìvia.
After retrieving his own horse, which he now sat on, Glorfindel waited for the twins. Elladan sat on Legolas' horse, as Elrohir sat on Meríco.
"Alright boy, take us to them."
Hidden Pass
The sun started to rise, as they entered Bruinen. Elrohir noticed the sun as they rode, a red sun.
"Elladan. The sun."
His twin nodded, seeing the sun as well.
"Let us hope it is not theirs."
They searched for hours, their hopes of life grew thin.
Their search came to a horrid halt, when their eyes landed on dead wargs, and orcs.
Sliding off their horses, their feet, now covered in mud. Walking around checking for their kin, hopefully alive.
Elladan yanked out an arrow from a warg, fearing the truth they dreaded.
"This is Lìvias'."
"They where here." Glorfindel replied.
"They were ambushed." Elrohir corrected.
Following the small pack of dead orcs, wargs, and mudded footprints, they found two final wargs dead at the bottom of a hill.
"Come on." Elladan said, motioning for his brother, and Glorfindel; who had the horses, to follow.
"They were heading for the secret entrance." Elrohir said, as they made their way down the hill.
"Let us hope they made it." Glorfindel whispered.
Looking upon the first warg they crossed, was the first to see blood in its mouth and teeth.
The second that laid a few feet beside the first. Also same as the first, blood from its teeth and mouth.
If there was any chance Lìvia and the Prince were alive now, it would be a miracle.
"Lìvia?! Legolas?!" Elrohir shouted, as he and Elladan made their way to the cave, followed by Glorfindel leading the three horses with him.
They soon reached the mouth of the cave, where the footprints ended.
Elladan hesitated before sliding down into the cave. And now his fear became reality.
They looked like nothing more than corpses laying against the caves' wall.
Blood stained their clothes, and their chests' were barely rising, if even at all.
"Glorfindel! Ride ahead and warn our Father. They will need medical assistants."
Dropping two of the three reins, Glorfindel got on his horse and headed back to Rivendell.
Elrohir didn't waste any time going into the cave, seeing the unpleasant scene before him.
Elladan was already beside Legolas, hoping to get some sort of response.
Elrohir rushed over to his sisters' side, hoping to do the same.
"Lìvia?"
She didn't answer, her head tipped over onto his shoulder, the open scars on her face had blood running down her face still.
But what didn't move was her right hand. It extended back to Legolas.
Their fingers were locked together, a death grip more so. A green flower and sliver branch like band sat on that same hand, stained with blood.
Elrohir loosened the grip between the two. Lìvias' hand now laid beside Legolas', barley touching.
Pressing two fingers on her neck, Elrohir could hardly feel a beat.
There came coughing and slight movement, from Legolas, now wide eyed, who then tried to get up too fast.
"Whoa, easy Legolas." said Elladan making Legolas lean back against the caves' wall. "Take it easy."
"Lìvia? Lìvia, where is she?" He asked weakly.
Elladan saw his sister, he saw the four gashes across her face.
"She's here. She's fine. She's fine. - Elrohir come and help me get Legolas out of here."
Elrohir rested Lìvia back against the cave wall. Then made his way out of the cave.
Elladan's first thought would be to go though the secret entrance from the cave, but by the state of them, they could never make it to Rivendell, that way.
Elladan hoisted Legolas up having his arm wrap around Elladans' shoulder, making their way to the mouth of the cave.
"Our two savors, saving us again." Legolas stated weakly.
"You forgot good looking as well." Elrohir replied grabbing Legolas and pulling him out of the cave.
It was weak, but a smile no less appeared on the Prince's face.
Elrohir placed Legolas against the cave's mouth. Helping his brother get Lìvia out.
Once they had gotten Lìvia out, Legolas with Elladan, and Lìvia with Elrohir, they quickly made their way back home.
Rivendell
"Legolas. He's dead Arwen. He's dead."
That is what Lìvia first said when she awoke weeks later after the attack.
Arwen quickly tried to comfort her sister by telling her, Legolas was alive and well.
Of course Livia did not believe her sister. How could she? She knew for a fact Legolas died.
Arwen then explained, everything that she knew. From that, it sounded Legolas was more alive then she was.
Another week went by before Lìvia officially got out of bed.
Lìvia's whole face was basically bruised. Dark and light pasty colors around her wounds. Bluish purple also.
Four fine lines, with black thread sown into her skin together.
It was still hard for her to open her right eye, but she's alive that's one thing to be grateful about.
"Lìvia? Lìvia, father wishes to see you." Arwen told her, seeing her sister on the floor in front of the fireplace.
"Then why does he not come here?"
Of course her father has seen her over the past week, making sure the cuts were not getting infected.
"He wishes to see you both."
Lìvias' eyes never left the fireplace, even though one is closed.
"Must I go?"
"Yes, father insists."
"Does he also insists for me to die of embarrassment?"
"Come now, Lìvia. You should not care what anyone else thinks of you. No matter what you-"
"But I do care, Arwen. My face, is - I don't want him to see me like this."
"Lìvia-"
"You didn't see him, Arwen. You didn't see his face when he saw me."
"Well, how about we compromise?"
Now, Lìvia turned and faced her sister, curious on what she was going to say or do.
Lìvia watched as Arwen wrapped a thick black scarf around her. Then on around her head, letting it hoover over Lìvias' visual perception.
Lìvia got up and went to her mirror, seeing her face covered by the scarf.
"Do you want me to come with you?"
"No, I shall take what is ever left of my dignity, and go on my own." Lìvia said fixing the scarf once more, opened the door, and closed it after herself.
Lìvia walked quickly though the halls, not wanting anyone to see her, or talk to her for that matter.
Lìvia made it to the entrance of the library seeing Legolas there at the doors.
"Lìvia?"
"Legolas." She said, not helping the smile that appeared on her face.
Legolas left his spot by the door and embraced her, which she gladly accepted.
~~~
It was short, not many questions where asked that the two elves could answer.
Whatever answers they did give were even shorter, not wanting to remember anything from that night.
Lìvia made sure to stay off away from Legolas. Not wanting him to see her in her current state. Even so not looking in his direction.
Once Elrond had finished asking his questions, dismissing them both, clearly not getting the answers he wanted; Lìvia left the room faster than you could say "Poughkeepise," closing the door behind her.
Legolas was about to follow her, but then thought better of it.
"Lord Elrond," Legolas said turning back around. Now having Elrond's attention. "-there is still one thing I do not understand. The way the warg attacked me, I should be dead."
"Perhaps the Valar thought it was not your time. On rare occasions they do spare a life, even before on the line of death."
Legolas nodded, bowing he left the library, closing the doors behind him.
(All in time.) Elrond thought.
(They will know, in time.)
But could Elrond even answer the questions they asked, when he couldn't answer them himself?
~"Choices, choices, choices. Will you ever learn? Choices counsel their fates, and it shall be their doom."~
~~~
It is never a coincidence, how life is done. If it was, then the world has gotten lazy.
There was a similar situation long ago; a tale of a woman who loved a man, that died. But that tale never told the whole story as .
The Valar did bring back the worrier, at the Elleths' request. But her cost was more than he could bear.
Even though he lived out many years on Middle-earth, he never got over her. Never found another; even though he looked to her in the sky. He never was truly happy. In the end he sailed to the Grey Heavens.
The Elleth was willing to give up everything for the man she loved. The question in asking is; "What will Lìvias' cost be in the end?"
