Chapter 18

Dúnedain

T.A.2497

Rivendell

  I was practically running for my life. I had to hide and fast. I opened the doors to the library, closing it right behind me.

"Lìvia? Is everything alright? And why are you covered in mud?"

  I turned around and saw Naneth and Ada.

Perfect.

I made a straight run to Ada's desk.

"Can't talk. Must hide." I said hiding under the desk.

"Hide? Hide from what?" Ada asked looking under his desk.

  Just then I heard the doors open and pairs of feet coming in. I knew it was Elladan and Elrohir that came in. I also knew they were covered in mud like me.

"Where are you? You little - 'Ada, Naneth.'" Elrohir said.

"Looking for someone?" Naneth asked.

"Umm.. Well.." Elladan stuttered.

"Achoo!"

Oops.

  Ada then picked me up, out from under the desk. And then looked at the three of us.

"Now. Would someone like to tell me what is going on?"

"I was just doing, what they were doing." I told Ada.

  He let out a deep sigh.

"What did you two do now?" Naneth asked.

  Just then Lindir and Glorfindel came into the room also in mud.

Ada sighed again, in disappointment.

"Why?"

  Elladan and Elrohir just shrugged.

"Had to get it out if our system." Elladan said.

"Before the Dúnedain arrive." Elrohir said finishing their sentence.

I looked at Ada. "Dúnedain? Rangers Of the North?"

  Everyone looked at me I surprise.

"What?"

"Someone is ahead on their studies." Ada stated.

I smiled.

'Melamin.' Ada said again, handing me off to Naneth.

"Take Lìvia and clean her up before our - guests arrive. Lindir, Glorfindel you may go as well."

  Lindir and Glorfindel bowed and walked out of the room, Naneth and I soon followed. Elladan and Elrohir secretly tried to get out, but Ada caught them. Which made me smile.

"You two stay."

~~~
After Naneth cleaned me up. I asked her if I could go and shoot before the Rangers arrived.
"Please, 'Naneth.' Just for an hour." I begged.
"Alright. Just for an hour."
'Hanna le, Naneth.'
  I was already wearing my outfit. I quickly grabbed my bow and arrows and ran out the door, and into the woods.
~~~

  I have been shooting no more than ten minutes and all the targets were hit. Some not all bullseye, but close enough. Elladan and Elrohir told me I will get better.

  I eventually got bored. I then grabbed all my arrows and started to collect forest plants, and herds. Since, Ada was giving me a test soon.

  As time pasted I soon heard some kind of commotion. Far off in the distance I heard the sound of swords clashing.

  My curiosity got the better of me. Pulling my hood up, I followed the sound of the swords.

~~~
'Melleth.' "Have  you seen Lìvia?"
"No. Why?"
"Because, she has been gone longer than see said she would." Celebrían said, worried.
'Melamin.' "Do not worry. She probably got carried away practicing."
~~~

  I am unsure how long I searched, how long I looked. I soon came to a clear opening, seeing all the commotion. I climbed one of the trees that were nearby.

  Getting a better view I saw orcs, fighting men.  Not, just any men, they are Rangers. I could tell by their clothes.

  I watched the fight go on, seeing dead orcs across the field. I took notice of the men, most had their hoods up, but some I could see their faces. There was one in particular, a man with a crown on his head. I instantly knew who he was.

He was Chieftain of the Dúnedain.

  He had brown hair, though it was turning grey. He also had brown eyes.

  I grabbed an arrow and notched it to my bowstring ready to fire, if needed. I saw an orc trying to attack from behind.

  Without even thinking I pulled my arm back and shoot the orc in the leg. It fell to the ground in pain and the man turned around and stabbed it.

  He glanced around for the person who shoot it, but he was not going to find me.

I continued to shoot the orcs, but every time, I hit them in the leg or missed. Mostly missed. The Rangers, and the orcs took notice at the arrows flying as well.

  When the last orc fell dead, the men started to pile the orcs and burn them. The smell was nauseating.

I slowly lowered myself down the tree, getting a closer look. Making sure I could not be seen.

"My, Lord Arvegil!"  One of the Rangers called.

  The man with the crown made his way to one of the dead orcs that had one of my arrows notched in its leg. The man pulled it out.

"What is it Arveleg?" Lord Arvegil asked.

"This is arrow is not of ours, but of an elf." He said. All the rangers looked around, for - me.

I gulped, and sunk lower down the tree.

  Just then, someone pulled my leg down. I landed hard on the ground. I looked up and saw it was an orc. It then grabbed a hold of me and pushed me out into the opening.

  The orc then put a blade to my neck, its tip poisoned.

"Drop your weapons! Or the child dies!" It ordered.

  The Rangers did as they were told. Dropping their weapons to the ground, I could practically hear the orc grin.

"Your line ends here." He said.

  He threw the blade and it landed in Arveleg's left shoulder and he fell to the ground.

(Here is my chance.)

  I kicked the orc's leg hard, grabbing it he cursed me in another language.

A dark one.

Being distracted one of the Rangers threw his dagger at the orc killing him, instantly.

All the rangers now surrounded Arveleg. I ran over to the Rangers hoping to save him, but two of the men stopped me.

"What is a child doing here?" One asked the other.

"Where are the other elves, that helped us?" The other one asked.

"There were no other elves, just me."

"You?!" The same man asked.

"Yes. I can also help Lord Arveleg."

"You? An elfling? Why don't you just go home?" The other man said annoyed with me.

"I CAN HELP!" I shouted.

"Let her through." A male voice called. I recognized it, it was Lord Arvegil.

  Both men lead me to the center. I then saw Arvegil, beside Arveleg. I could also see, and hear him crying.

(This is his son! That explains why the orc said the line ends.)

Arvegil, looked at me with pleading eyes.

"If you can. Save my son."

  I only nodded as I quickly went to work. Remembering everything Ada taught me. Arveleg's face was already turning pale.

  It took no time to find the blade. My fear was how far it really went. In hope it did not puncture his heart.

'Si aa' narna.' I whispered to him.  'This may hurt.'

  He mumbled something back, but I did not quite catch it. I eased out the blade and placed it down beside me, half of the blade was covered in blood.

  Then I looked at his wound to see how far it really went. My heart sank, the blade in fact punctured his heart.

(But by how much? Either way I do not have that much training on live people. I am going have to bring him back to Ada. I can at least slow the poison down.)

  I quickly looked through my bag of herbs hoping to find what I was looking for athelas I also pulled out a cloth as well to stop the bleeding.

  Now, Arveleg's breaths were short and fast. I had to hurry and fast.

  I put the athelas in my mouth and chewed till it was mush and I placed the mushed athelas on the wound. I then placed the cloth on top of it and applied pressure.

  Arveleg's breathing slowed down, but not much. I looked back at Arvegil, is eyes still pleading.

"He is fading fast. There is nothing left for me to do." I said. I saw his face fall.

"How much time does he have?"

"Not long. You are going to have to take him to my father, back in Rivendell. He as more skills than I do."

He nodded.

"Then we ride."

~~~
  All the rangers got on their horses. I was put I front of the few female Rangers there.
"How come you will not let us see your face?" She asked, as we started to ride.
"You never asked." I replied.
She let out a chuckle.
~~~

  In no time, we made it back to Rivendell. Up ahead I could see Ada, along with Elladan and Elrohir.

(Oh, I am going to be in so much trouble.)

Once we got to the front gates, everyone got off their horses and quickly made their way to my father and brothers. I stayed hidden behind the female ranger.

"Do you fear Lord Elrond, as well?" She asked, whispering.

"I do. He is my father."

She said nothing, as we continued walking.

"Welcome back to Rivendell, Lord Arvegil." Ada said, bowing along with Elladan and Elrohir. "I hope you had a safe journey."

"I wish it was Lord Elrond, but my son got injured in an orc attack." He replied.

Ada and my brothers face's became very aware now. Two of the rangers brought Arveleg over to my father.

"The little one says he does not have much time."

"Little one?" Ada questioned. He glanced around till his eyes fell upon me.

"We will speak about this later." He told Arvegil.

"Lìvian!"

(Yep. I'm in trouble.)

"Yes, 'Ada.'" I said peaking out from behind the Ranger's leg.

"With me, now." He commanded. I quickly made my way towards him.

"Follow me." He said also to the two rangers carrying Arveleg.

"Elladan, Elrohir show our guest where they are staying."

~~~
  Ada had me help heal Arveleg, since this is my first live body. Ada was impressed of my quick thinking skills to use athelas, to slow the poison.
  I guess it was about dinner time when we finished. He was going to live.
   Ada told me to change clothes and get ready, for dinner and that we were going to discuss how I came about with the Rangers. I quickly changed and made my way to the Dinning Hall.
~~~

  When I got there all the Rangers were there with Elladan and Elrohir.

"No, that can not be our sister that did all that." Elladan remarked.

"Ah, but you said it yourselves that she was practicing from the both of you." Lord Arvegil said, taking another sip from his goblet.

"Yes, she is. But she is not that skilled, yet." Elrohir replied.

  And I will be honest, I tried to make myself not noticeable, as I made my way around the table. But that did not work when my brothers saw me.

"Oh, no you don't Squirt. You're not getting away that easy." Elrohir said, picking me up and placing me in his lap.

"Hey!"

"Speaking of Lìvia. Where is she?" Arvegil asked.

"I am right here."

Everyone stopped talking and looked at me.

"Then I believe I own you my thanks. For you saved me, my son, and my family."

"You are most welcome." I said bowing my head.

"No little one.  I should bow to you." He said bowing his  own head, all the Rangers did.

I looked at Elladan and Elrohir.

"Sorry, Squirt but we are not bowing." Elrohir said smiling.

  Making all three of us laugh.

~~~
After dinner ended I went out into the gardens, and sat on one of the benches.
I looked up seeing the stars coming out. Someone sat down beside me and turned and looked at them.
It was Lord Arvegil, he too looked up at the stars.
"The stars are beautiful tonight."
I looked back up at the sky.
"Yes, they are."
"Here I wanted to give you this." He said pulling out a dagger and handing it to me.
  I pulled the dagger out of its sleeve. It was beautiful, the blade was black with leather strings wrapping around the handle and at the end of the two strings were two black rocks, also at the end of the handle was a purple rock, shining in the moons' light.
"Its beautiful."
'Hanna le.' "Its yours."
"Really?!" I asked surprised.
"Yes. It is a gift for helping us. This dagger also means you are always welcome to the Rangers of the North. You are a friend to us, just like your brothers. We could always use someone like you."
"I would like that." I said smiling.
Arvegil smiled as well.
"Now, let me teach you how to use it."
~~~

That night.

~I saw myself older I believe, dancing with someone. It was dark, little light was shone. I could not see the persons' face only able to make out a few details.

I was dancing with an Ellon with light blue eyes, and light blonde hair.~

I am in NO WAY saying Elladan & Elrohir are pranksters. They are not Fred & George, BY ANY MEANS, OR THE MARA. I just thought it would be funny.

I know the attack was out there, and the injury was almost impossible to live through. But, I needed something for them to meet, so live with it.

No names where made up, this is the real blood line of Aragorn and his family. No lie I looked it up.

...Don't judge me...

I know you're judging me.

STOP IT!!

........

Anyway..

Vote.

Do both.

I'm out.
