Chapter 46 ~ Dead Meat

  Brianna's POV

Do I seriously have to spend the whole afternoon with Adelaide? "Everyone, please welcome Brianna Myers!" she says in front of everyone. I mean, at least the rook wasn't bad. The kids section of the library is just outside the room, so if we need a new book, we don't need to make a far trip. There's also a few smaller bookcases in the room, a large colorful rug in the middle of the room, and chairs for the adults around the rug. Plus there are two chairs -one taken by Adelaide- in from of the carpet.

"Welcome, Brianna," all the kids on the colorful rug said in a bored tone. I walk to the from of the room to take a seat next to Adelaide. She reeks of expensive perfume. Somebody gag me.

"You've come just in time, Brianna," she says and sits up straight like she's all proper and all that jazz. "Kids, today we will be starting with a book." She holds up 'Hickory Dickory Dock'. "Does anybody know what book this is?"

A small plump kid raises his hand. "OOH OOH I KNOW PICK ME PICK ME PLEAAAASE!!!" he shouts.

"You there," she says and points at him.

He takes a deep breath as if to prepare himself for a huge speech. "ELSA!!" he yells finally. The kids erupt into laughter. A lady- who I assume is his mom - taps on his shoulder and tells him something. He stops laughing and looks down at the ground.

"No, it's not Elsa. Brianna, can you tell everyone what book this is," Adelaide says and waves her hand in front of the book.

"You're asking me...?" I say slowly.

"Yes," she says, "yes I am."

"Hickory Dickory Dock, can't you read? It's says it right there."

"As a matter of fact, I can read Brianna." After she finished her sentence, she starts to read the book.

I take out my phone while she's reading and text in the group chat with everyone.

[email protected]: Get me the flip out of here.

[email protected]: What's happening?

[email protected] sent a picture.

I took a picture of Adelaide reading the book.

[email protected]:
oh... I'm not the right person for this.

Shawn'[email protected]: But I am!

[email protected]: What kind of email is that, Shawn!? XD

Shawn'[email protected]: What? It rhymes at least. Unlike someone's...

[email protected]: Umm, excuse me? At least mine makes sense.

Jade_Don'[email protected]: What's all this ruckus?

[email protected]: Scroll up

Jade_Don'[email protected]: Oh...

"Brianna, it's your turn to either read or sing a nursery rhyme," Adelaide says while interrupting my texting session.

[email protected]: Currently dead meat, bye!

I put my phone away. "M-me? I'm not good with kids and I don't sing."

"Oh come on, you've sang before. Like that one time in second grade when you had that part in the school play."

"Shut it," I warn her. "Fine..." I clear my throat and say, "Hey, little tiny people." Too awkward? Yeah. I might as well make this into a comeback session. "This one should be familiar. Especially to you Adelaide. I'm sure you've heard this a lot. Ready?" Everyone nods their heads. Instead of facing the kids, I be Adelaide. I grip the sides of my seat to get ready for my master plan. "Row, row, row your boat," I begin to sing somewhat badly, "Far away from me." I start to scoot my chair away from her slowly. "Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is great for me." I'm on the other side of the room now. So worth it.

See ya all in the next chapter!

Till then,
~Orchid
