Chapter 32 ~ Nice And Relaxed
Brianna's POV
I approach The Coffee Crown. I've only been here once before, so I'm still trying to get used to it. I walk in through the glass doors. The place has a modern feel to it. I try to look around for Emily. From what I can remember, she has dark brownish blackish hair and extremely pale skin. I sit down at an empty table and check my Twitter feed. A girl who looked about my age came up to me. She had streaks of green in her hair. "Are you, Brianna?" she asks in a high pitched voice.
"Emily?"
"Yup. Hey, Brianna!" She pulls me into a tight hug. "It's been so long! How long, maybe... 13 years."
"You got that right."
"So," she says sitting down on the chair across from me, "How've you been?"
"I've been good. The usual, you know?"
"Same, it's the same in Kansas."
"Wait," I interrupt, "I thought you lived here, in Georgia."
"Oh, a few years ago my dad got a new job in Kansas, so we either had to downgrade our old house here, or move to Kansas with him. You can figure out the rest."
"Oh. Welcome back, I guess?"
She laughs. "Yeah, thanks. So how's Bailey?"
"She's fine..." I think. "How do you know Bailey?" I ask.
"Your mom has told me all about her. You've been friends since kindergarten, right?"
I nod my head. "Yep. Jack and Collin too. So, how've you been?"
"Not too shabby myself," she says. "Wanna get something to drink?"
"Sure. What do you want?"
"Just a strong coffee and a bagel, but you don't have to pay. I'll pay for us." She gets up and starts to walk to the counter.
I stop her. "No, no, I'll pay." I take out the money from my pocket and show it to her. "I insist."
"Fine... But I get to pay if we meet up again next time." She walks back to the table and sits down."
I walk up to the counter and wait in the line. It was fairly long, but I could manage I guess. "Hi, welcome to The Coffee Crown, my name is Marsha, how may I help you today?" the lady behind the counter says.
"Hi, could I have a strong coffee with a bagel, and an iced tea with a croissant, please?"
"Coming right up, miss."
I step out of line and walk back to the table. "It should be ready soon," I say once I sit down.
"Ok, thanks for paying by the way," Emily says looking up from her phone.
"No problem. So how's school?"
"It's good I guess. I mean, you gotta make the best of your senior year, right?"
"True. Hey, do you have this really popular chick at your school that always approaches you every morning to criticize how you look?"
"Isn't there always?" She laughs and I join in. "But seriously, yeah, there is. Always saying how I have hairs sticking out of my messy buns."
"That's so true!" We both start laughing again.
"Bri?" Someone from behind the counter calls.
"I'll be right back," I say while getting up to get our order. I pick up the drinks and food and give Marsha the money. "Thanks,"'I say say and walk away. I place our things on the table.
"Thanks again, Brianna," Emily says taking a sip of her coffee. "Eew, I need some milk and sugar in this. I'll be right back. I'm gonna go find some." She got up and left to find her additions to her coffee. I take a sip of my iced tea. Needs sugar. I'll just take one of her sugar packets when she isn't looking. Muahahahaha...
"I'm back!" Emily says and plops down in her seat. She drops about 7 sugar packets on the table as well as a few tiny cups of milk. "Score!" She opens two sugar packets and poor them into her coffee.
"Mind if I have one?" I point to the pile of sugar packets in the middle of our table.
"By my guest!"
I take a sugar packet and pour the contents in my tea. I mix it around wth my straw and take a sip. "Much better," I say.
"Same here."
My phone starts ringing. The caller ID is Jade.
"Let me guess," Emily says, "Bailey?"
I shake my head. "Nope, it's Jade." I answer the phone. "Hello?"
"I'm bored," Jade says from the other side of the line.
"Nice to meet you bored."
"Not this trick again!"
"I'm kinda busy now," I say looking over to Emily who's on her phone, "but I can call you back later, ok?"
"Fine, whatever." And with that the line clicked dead.
"So," Emily says looking up from her phone. "Who's Jade?"
"Oh. Well... You see... I... She..."
"Get to the point, Brianna."
"Ugh, fine." I tell her everything, basically what I told to Will the other day.
"Wow," she says, "Your mom has always said you were a great student. I guess Brianna here is slacking off."
"That's not the point. The point is, that you know who Jade is now. Also, just call me Bri."
"Noted," she says, taking another sip of her now cold coffee.
**********
We talk for awhile more until I got a text from mom saying I had to go home now. "Bye, Emily," I say giving her a hug.
"Bye, Briann- Bri. I meant to say Bri." She flashes me a smile and hugs me back. "Maybe we can meet up again soon?"
"Maybe..." I say, "We'll have to see. Oh, I'm just kidding. Of course we can meet up again! We still have a lot of catching up to do."
"Alright, see you then, Bri. Bye!" She walked over to the parking lot of The Coffee Crown and got in her car. Today was really nice and relaxed, huh?
Hey guys! Really long chapter. Well, not really long but you get the point. See ya all in the next chapter!
