Brianna's POV

  "Bri!" I cheery voice yells over the loud music.

  "Bailey!" I say after turning around for instantly recognizing the voice. I run to give her a hug but she trips on something on the way and falls to the ground.

  "Smooth!" I yell.

  "Like sandpaper!" I here Arsenic yells from the opposite side of the snack table.

  Bailey stands up and smooths out her dress, a frilly light blue dress that ruffles towards the bottom. "Want something to drink?" she asks, motioning towards the snack table behind me.

  "Nah," I reply. "The punch is probably posited or something, and the food might have some kind of sleeping drug in it. Also, I already ate at home."

  "Right," she says. "Well, I gotta go. Adelaide problems." She mutters the last sentence through her teeth.

  "Bye!" I walk over to Jade who's with Shawn. Time to put my third wheeling skills to the test. "Hi," I say, the music overpowering my voice.

  "Oh, hey Bri!" Jade says back. She's unusually happy tonight.

  "So, the fireworks are ok on the roof?" I ask, trying to make a conversation.

  "Yeah, no one ever thinks of going up there."

  "Cool," I reply.

A random girl comes up to the three of us.

"Like, oh my god, you two are so cute together, I like, can't even right now!" She looks at Shawn and Jade. "Like, how did you guys meet?"

"Oh, that's easy really," Shawn replies. "She walked in on me doing my duties in a portapotty."

"WHAT?!" Jade exclaims, her eyes going wide.

"Aww, that's like, so cool. Buh bye!" She walks away and Jade starts nagging to Shawn.

  "Alriiiiight Arcadia High students!" the loudspeaker says. "Thank you for attending this year's Summer Dance. We hope you had a fantastic time here, seniors. And for the freshmen, we hope you have a great second year here. Same goes for our second and third years. Have a great summer!"

  "We will be announcing the prom kind and queen soon," it continues. "The eye will be announced in five minutes. If you are interested in finding out the winners, please make your way towards the stage. Announcements will be after dance hours. If you wish to not attend, you may start exiting the auditorium. Thank you and have a great summer." The speaker clicks and the chat starts up and he music begins blaring again. Welp, better get to the stage.

  "In third place for Prom King," the principal announces into the microphone, "Jett Redcliffe!"

  People clap but I just keep silent. He goes up to collect his crown thing which they probably bought from the dollar store or something.  

  "In second place," the principal continues, "Christopher Douglas!" If I had water in my mouth, I would've had a spit take. Is she seriously for real? Is he seriously for real? He goes up to collect his dollar store crown.

"In first place," I've already lost interest by then.

"In third for prom queen, Miranda Henry!"

  I hear Miranda yell, "WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY IT WRONG?' ITS OBVIOUSLY 'HENRY'! UGH!" She stomps onto the stage and collects her dollar tiara.

  "In second place, Adelaide Jenkins!"

  "WHAT?!" I hear her screech and I burst into laughter. "BUT I ALWAYS GET FIRST! RECOUNT THEM! I DEMAND!"

  "I'm sorry, Ms. Jenkins, but we have recounted these three times just to make sure we get everything right."

  "I HATE THIS!" She doesn't even collect her dollar tiara. She storms out of the auditorium. Well, that was fun to watch.

  "In first place," again, I've lost interest and walk out to join everyone else on the roof.

  "Let her rip!" Jade yells as Arsenic lights the fuse of the fireworks.

  The fireworks cascade across the star filled sky and explode into a beautiful array of colors tending from red to blue to white.

  "I say this dance was pretty successful," Jade says, standing next to the awed person called myself.

  "You think?! This is amazing!" I exclaim.

  "So, is this the end of good two shoes Brianna?" she asks.

  "Yeah, I think so. So long good girl then."

  "So long good girl? Catchy."

  "Yeah." Another bright firework explodes in the sky. "So long good girl."
