hazy sunsets
"hey."
y/n didn't tear her eyes away from the dishes, which she was assigned to after dinner.
"baby..." an arm went around her waist along with a chin resting on her shoulder. "you can't be mad."
there was no other voice, only the sound of izukus pleading one and the far away noises of their classmates playing some game in the common room only a few feet away.
"i'm sorry. seriously, i'm sorry."
y/ns eyes narrowed, jabbing her elbow into the boys side when she felt a snicker come from his lips after the apology.
"you should've let me win. i hate doing dishes."
"i know."
y/n finally glanced over in his direction when she felt her hair being placed behind her ear. he was just as bright as always, maybe she'd go blind from staring at him too much. would that be a good or bad thing?
izuku was so much more mature and sure of himself than their first year. which was expected, but the way he talked to her now in quiet whispers and held her so confidently in public made her feel like her stomach could explode at any second.
"you've changed."
y/n turned back towards the sink, shoulders relaxing once she realized there were only a few more dishes left to do.
"you like it," izuku whispered with a small kiss on the girls cheek.
this. this should be unacceptable.
izuku dropped his arm from around her waist, leaning back against the counter and crossing his arms over his chest. "if you hurry up we can catch the sunset."
y/n glared at him, causing izuku to rush out of the kitchen in a fit of giggles. she couldn't hold back her own smile, speeding through the rest of the dishes with ease.
she met the messy haired boy outside of the dorm hall, falling into step next to him as they walked towards a small cliff overlooking the city.
"it's kinda cloudy isn't it?" y/n looked up towards the sky, seeing the colors change as the sun faded into the horizon.
"it's pretty."
y/n looked over at him, shaking her head as his eyes stayed fixed on her. "i thought you wanted to see the sunset."
"i wanted to see you in the sunset."
it still caused y/n to nearly pass out every time izuku kissed her, she couldn't understand how someone could like her so much.
she was isolated during their first year, having hardly talked to anyone since - according to mina - her aura was scary. crazy to think they'd be best friends now.
izuku, as always, was the first one to reach out when it came to practicing or studying or even eating lunch together. she kept turning him down at first, saying that she didn't want to be around anyone, but everywhere she went he was right there with her.
"you don't have to go through everything alone. at the end of the day i'll always be here for you. supporting you. so lean on me if you need to."
those words often floated through her head, it was after izuku had witnessed her crying over her mother passing in the hospital.
he had taken the hour long train ride with her to go see her mother in the hospital once y/n recieved a phone call saying she wouldn't make it through the night.
izuku sat right next to his new friend, finally meeting the woman who birthed the now love of his life as she neared the end of her time.
"i'll take good care of her. you don't need to worry."
y/n cried that whole night; sitting with izuku next to her mothers bed and all the way on the train home. it was the first night he had lent her a piece of his clothing, the hoodie had now become a staple in her daily attire.
izuku placed his hand on the side of y/ns face, pulling away and smiling down at her. "what're you thinking about?" his other hand reached up and tugged at the familiar hoodie string.
y/n smiled too, shaking her head before wrapping her arms around him and squeezing him in a tight hug. "the sunset is better with you."
"don't get all sappy with me, that's my job."
y/n felt the vibrations of his laugh through his chest, causing her to laugh too. "you're rubbing off on me."
"good."
