Ochaco Uraraka

You walked all the way to her to Uraraka's room. You saw her cross-legged on the bed, as she finished up some papers for the night. She smiled tiredly as you gently closed the door.

“Aren’t you sleepy yet?” she asked, tilting her head playfully.

You shook your head vigorously. “Nope! Not even a little!” you declared, puffing out your chest in mock bravado.

Uraraka giggled. “You’re just like Deku when he gets excited about training. But we need to help you sleep. Heroes need their rest, you know.”

"But what if I don’t want to sleep?” you questioned.

“Well,” Uraraka said, tapping her chin thoughtfully, “if you don’t want to sleep, how about we do something fun? Something…relaxing!”

You perked up at the mention of fun. “Like what?”

“Counting sheep!” Uraraka exclaimed.

“Really, how's that fun?" you groaned.

“Trust me,” said Uraraka. “It’s more fun than it sounds. Close your eyes and imagine a big, fluffy field. The grass is super soft, and the sky is full of stars. Can you see it?”

At first, you hesitated but then you nodded. “I closed them now!” you replied.

“Good! Now, in that field, there’s a fence. And one by one, cute little sheep start hopping over it. They’re the fluffiest sheep you’ve ever seen!” she narrated. “You count each one as they jump. Think you can do that?”

Your eyes opened again. “Are they real sheep?”

“Well, no,” Uraraka admitted with a chuckle. “They’re specia sheep. You can make them look however you want. You can even give them names!” Uraraka said, smiling.

The child giggled. “Okay, okay! I wanna try!”

Uraraka sat back, her fingers clasped around her knees as she watched Y/N close their eyes again. Their small face scrunched in concentration.

“Alright, I see the field,” Y/N said, their voice soft now. “And… there’s the fence! Ooh, a sheep is coming!”

“What does it look like?” Uraraka asked, her voice a whisper, as if she were afraid to scare away the imaginary scene.

“It’s… it’s pink! Like bubblegum!” Y/N exclaimed, their excitement making Uraraka suppress a laugh.

“Pink? That’s an awesome choice!” she said. “What’s its name?”

“Umm…Poppy!” Y/N decided.

Uraraka grinned. “Poppy sounds perfect. Did it jump over the fence?”

“Yup! And here comes another one!” Y/N continued. “This one’s purple, and it’s got a star on its head. Its name is… Starry!”

For the next several minutes, Uraraka listened patiently as you described sheep after sheep, each one more creative than the last. Then, your voice grew quieter and quieter as the count went on. By the time you reached the thirteenth sheep, Uraraka noticed your words were starting to slur, and their breathing was becoming softer and sleepier.

No sooner then later, you were already asleep. Uraraka leaned over, pulling the blankets up to your chin. She smiled tenderly at the peaceful expression on their face. “Sweet dreams, little one,” she whispered.

She stayed by your side for a while, watching the rise and fall of your tiny chest. The quiet of the night felt serene, and Uraraka couldn’t help but feel that being with you reminded her to always protect smiles and bring comfort, even in the smallest ways.
