Chapter 4; Side Quest? Start!
MENTIONS OF POSSIBLE VIOLENCE TOWARDS MID CHAPTER. The paragraph(s) will be pointed out with this > ☆゚.*・。゚
Maybe our tale will end here, much sooner than hoped, or maybe our sweet (Y/n) will be saved. Either way we can only hope the best, can't we?
Snufkin's POV
I couldn't fathom what I had done to make the princess run away. You know exactly what you did. My thoughts scolded me, making me chuckle. Pulling out my harmonica, I sat my hat aside and started playing, despite what I say, it's my favorite thing to do. The (h/c) girl popped her head out of her tent and I kept my gaze steady, wondering what she was doing. And after a while, she was back inside. Sliding onto the ground more, I put my hat onto my head, tilting it forward to almost cover my eyes. And in no time, (Y/n) was scurrying out with her art supplies. She was always so odd in her want to paint at all times.
After a bit of playing my harmonica, I stopped. I had gotten quite good at picking up nearby people, with the exception of the princess the other day. But I couldn't see anyone, so I kept my hat low, and my gaze on the female.
Upon two males coming into my view I paused. I couldn't hear what they were saying, and to be honest, I hesitated. She wasn't my friend, but rather just a tag along. Sure I enjoyed fishing, and she reminded me of my friends, but I didn't know her, and knowing how things go in fairy tales, they're probably just gonna take her back home.

I couldn't hear what was being exchanged, but the moment she tried running my blood ran cold. And I could hear her feeble attempt at yelling my name. Jumping up without thought, I ran off towards them. Unlike when I normally take to helping others, I didn't know just what I was going to do. The males turned my way and the one not holding (Y/n) balled up a fist.
"Come any closer and I'll knock you flat on your ass. This is my reward." The guy holding the princess tossed her up on his shoulder and she flailed.
"Snufkin, help!" Tears streamed down her face, and as the guys started running off, I followed after, holding out my hat. She grabbed it, sobbing out and I stopped running.
"You better keep that!!" I yelled out, taking a few deep breaths. Now that they were in the distance I was yet again hesitating. I wasn't even sure why she was running from her palace anyway. I knew nothing about her other than she had my hat. A scenario ran through my head of me having to tell them in Moominvalley why I didn't have my hat, and the scolding I'd most likely get. "Alright. Fine." I huffed, climbing into the girls tent and grabbing the partial empty bag and a full bag of her money. If there's any way to get her back, it's through a plan. I thought, starting up a pace as I went to scheming. My lack of respect for authority was getting ready to face the greatest defiance I could possibly achieve.
Snagging a wanted poster on my way through the town, I stopped outside the only store still open. I closed my brown eyes, taking a deep breath before walking in.
"What can I do for you, young man?"
"Just some shopping..." I mumbled, stepping through the small store and grabbing materials I knew I needed. Walking up to pay the man for what I picked up, I gave him a smile and held up the poster. "Mind telling me how to get to the palace?"
"And what business do you have at the palace?" He stepped out from his place at the counter.
"Between you and I, she's traveling with me, thought I was safe to be around. But I want that pretty reward. If you tell me how to get there, I'll give you a fourth of the reward." He rolled his eyes, tapping his foot.
"And how do I know you'd come back?"
"Simple, I give you what I have right now, I have nearly a fourth of the reward, it's why I offered only that much." His eyes lit up and my leisurely smile turned malicious. I knew he'd be like others and set on earthly materials.
"Alright, alright!" He said hurriedly. "Here's what you do....."
Trekking the route he told me, I carried both sets of things, having to stop occasionally to readjust. It was annoying and I had to remind myself that I was doing this to get my hat back. But slowly, with each passing half hour of traveling the silence was getting loud. Normally, I'd take out my harmonica and play, but I couldn't, needing to do this without being caught. It seemed useless, she'd probably just get taken again. But regardless, I carried on. Coming to a stop in a slight clearing, I noticed a tall stone wall about 50 yards ahead. With the adrenaline dwindled and my energy depleted, I sat the bags down and leaned against them. The shades of blue in the sky were brighter, and I was sure the sun would cast in two hours or so.
Waking up slowly from the sun in my eyes, I had to think about when I had fallen asleep. It was difficult to sleep without my hat covering the sun from my eyes and I sighed, something I didn't think I could do so often. Digging in the stuff, I grabbed the basket and my fishing pole and pale. If I got lucky I'd find a small stream, but I had a feeling I'd have to stick to berries. Stalking through the forest, I had found a few bushes of different berries. Upon examination, I confirmed they were safe to eat, and picked some of each. I ate mindlessly before grabbing the materials I bought and heading towards the wall.
"So what treachery involves climbing hooks and this wall?" The voice was familiar, mainly because it sounded like mine, and I turned around pleasantly surprised to see Joxter.
"What are you doing here?"
"Is that any way to greet your dad? I'm hurt." His tone said otherwise as he placed a hand on my shoulder. "But what are you doing here, son?"
"Getting my hat back from the royal family." Turning from him, I got ready to put the hooks to work.
"That sounds like fun, need any help?" I stopped and smiled.
"I got to find the room that has her in it first."
"If that's a yes, maybe I could start helping by telling you that on the other side of that corner, there's a fenced opening." I dropped the hooks the moment he said that and looked at him incredulously before following him around to where there was, indeed a fence. Well, now it'll be a lot easier to get (Y/n) out of here. I thought, stepping through a small break in the fence.
Does Author have a plan? Yeah. Does she know how to do it? No. Let's hope getting (Y/n) out will be as easy as Snufkin is making it sound.
