Chapter Seven

Snowsilver keeps walking. Two more days until he should be at the camp he last saw Honey.
I wonder how high I would need to get to look around the area he wonders.
He chooses a tree and begins climbing its trunk to see if he can see anything. He hears something rustle in the bushes below.
Either prey or predator lurks in the bushes. He keeps climbing. He tastes the air but he seems to be upwind from whatever it is.
Suddenly a bird leaps off the branch above him, screeching lowdly as it does. The surprise causes him looses his grip and begin to fall. He screams as he falls, although its only a few tail lengths down from where he was. He twists his body and lands on his paws, luckily.
"Are you ok!?" A gray tom leaps out of the bushes, eyes wide.
"Yeah," Snowsilver shakes his pelt, "just caught off guard I guess."
"Well good thing you're ok!" The gray tom sighs with relief.
"Yeah," Snowsilver laughs, "I'm on a sort of- journey- right now."
"To where?" The gray tom tilts his head and his amber eyes sparkle with curiosity.
"To the healers camp," Snowsilver mews.
The gray tom bounces a moment, "me too! Mind if I walk with you?"
"What's your name?" Snowsilver asks.
"Jasper," the gray tom dips his head, "nice to meet you."
"I'm Snowsilver," Snowsilver dips his head.
"You're a warrior!?" Jasper steps back, frightened.
"Don't be scared!" Snowsilver pleads, "I'm not anymore, I left to find my friends," he takes a step towards Jasper, who calms down a bit.
"Alright," Jasper nods slowly, "Do the healers know you're coming?"
"No, I don't think so," Snowsilver shrugs.
"They don't know I'm coming either," Jasper smiles and nods a few times, "I heard from a friend that my sisters came here a few moons ago and I wanted to see them."
"I was there once," Snowsilver thinks back to his days with Honey and Silverfur, it seemed so long ago.
So much had happened since then, he'd become an apprentice, his mother died, he started really liking Goldsparrow, and then, now, he left the clans.
"I've never been there myself," Jasper shrugs, "my father comes from there, his siblings are there too."
"May I ask why you and your siblings apart?" Snowsilver asks.
"They're only my half siblings," Jasper admits, "I've got litter mates as well but they don't like me very much."
Very talkative, Snowsilver laughs to himself, I used to be like that.
"How come?" Snowsilver tilts his head.
Jasper shuffles his paws, "I'm their annoying runt brother," he sighs.
"I don't have any siblings," Snowsilver mews, "but if I did I'm sure they wouldn't have liked me very much either."
"Why?" Jasper nods forward and starts walking.
"I used to be deaf," Snowsilver follows him, matching his pace once he was back shoulder to shoulder with him.
"Used to be?" Jasper blinks in surprise.
"The healers helped me," Snowsilver half smiles.
"Interesting," Jasper nods, "maybe they could make me bigger, like my siblings!"
Snowsilver laughs and shakes his head, "maybe."
