Chapter Three
-The she-cats POV-
As the small tom kit falls asleep the she-cat plans how to communicate with him when he wakes up.
First thing first, he would need a name, if he didn't have one already. Then she would need to tell him her name somehow.
Maybe I could point to my fur, she thinks, then fluff my fur. Silver, fur. Silverfur.

Snowkits POV-
He blinks his eyes open slowly and looks around him.
By the looks of the way the she-cat was breathing she must be asleep. He looks to her closed eyes which confirms it.
How will I tell her my name? He wondered, How can I learn hers?
Snowkit was full of questions; Why can't I hear being the most frequently asked question of his. He would think about it for hours on end; why can't I hear? Is it because I was born like this? Is there a stubborn bit of fur in my ears that's blocking sound? Maybe I don't have ears!? He had once thought with fear, then he flicked his ears, knowing they were really there. No, that can't be it.
Snowkit buried his muzzle in the she-cats fur, searching for milk, but he didn't find any.
He noticed the she-cat stir, he must have woken her in his attempts to find milk.
He saw her open her mouth wide and close her eyes but then she closed her mouth with no further emotion.
She mustn't have said anything, he thought.
The she-cat licked his forehead in greetings, flicking her tail tip from side to side in a kind of waving motion.
She must be saying hi! Snowkit realized with a smile.
He waved his tail tip in the same way, excitement making him smile so much his face almost hurt.
-------------------------
-The she-cats (Silverfur) POV-
She smiled as the kit waved his tail back at her, he seemed to be very happy.
She noticed paths had been made in his fur on his face, probably the paths from tears.
"Can you figure out what I'm saying?" She mewed really slowly.
The kit tilted his head slowly in confusion.
I guess not, she thought.
"Can I," she mewed pointing her tail to herself, "look," she widened her eyes and blinked several times, "at your," she continued pointing her tail at the kit, "ears?" She mewed as she wriggled her ears and pointed to his ears.
The kit wriggled his ears and smiled.
She decided she would try again.

-Snowkits POV-
The she-cat made funny motions with her tail, moving her mouth every time she made a new motion.
First she pointed at herself, then she widened her eyes and blinked a lot, after that she pointed her tail at me, and proceed to wriggle her ears.
When Snowkit wriggled his ears she seemed to be disappointed though.
Snowkit decided he would pay more attention this time.
The she-cat began again.
She first pointed her tail at Snowkits ears, then at her own eyes.
She was asking to look at my ears! He thought.
Snowkit nodded and smiled when he saw the relieved look on the she-cats face.
He turned his head for the she-cat to look into his ears.
He felt her breathe into his ears slowly. It tickled his ear fur.
She moved her head away and looked at me sadly.
Did I make her sad? Was I being mean? He thought.
Suddenly the she-cat smiled, she must have had an idea.
She pointed at herself, then ran her tail along her silver fur. She then fluffed her fur.
He tried to meow but he wasn't sure what she had said.
---------------------------------
-Silverleaf POV-
"Siler fluff?" The kit mewed.
She looked at the celling in thought.
She had an idea.
She pointed at one stripe of silver on her pelt then at another patch of fur.
"Sil- Sil- Siler," the kit mewed.
"Sil- ver," Silverfur mewed, knowing it would do no good, "fur."
She would keep trying.
