I cant disappoint you
Shadow watched in horror as she watched the guardians and pitch black fight. The guardians were her friends, and they were like her family. And pitch was her father.
And JACK was her boyfriend! To see the people she cared about fight... the people she called family... not only did it break her heart, but it scared her half to death.
If one of them got hurt or died, she wouldn't forgive herself. She loved them so much and they were her family.
She gasped when bunny was thrown into the wall, her hands covering her mouth. "Bunny!" She said as she rushed towards him. Bunny groaned in pain as he held his shoulder. He looked at shadow, pain in his eyes.
"Y-you need to get out of here, shelia! It's not safe!" He said worriedly before quickly dodging one of pitch's nightmares that had been flying right towards him.
"I'm not leaving you guys!" She yelled, her heart pounding. She wanted to scream and tell them to stop. But she was so afraid, she couldn't bring herself to do it.
The reason why pitch and the guardians were fighting was because he was so tired of not being believed in. He wanted to be feared and have power.
After all, he is the boogeyman.
But he didn't understand... not only was it putting his little girl in danger, but without the guardians, kids won't have dreams, toys for Christmas, quarters from the tooth fairy, or fun and snow days from jack.
Most importantly, they won't believe.
Tooth helped north up and growled at pitch before glancing at shadow. She was like a mom to her. The mom she never had, since shadows birth mother died after she had her.
"Watch out!" Shadow screamed, and tooth quickly looked at pitch, ducking just in time. A spear had flown behind her and turned into dust.
Shadow looked at her father, her eyes widening in horror. He was aiming another spear at jack, who was on his knees, trying to catch his breath. No... she wouldn't let that happen.
As soon as pitch fired, everything felt like slow motion. She rushed towards jack, her heart pounding. She couldn't let him die. Or anybody for that matter. Not even her father.
And it happened.
The spear hit her, right in the stomach and she screamed in pain, her head rolling back. Her hands flew to her stomach as everybody's eyes widened in horror. Even pitches. I mean, he just shot his baby!
"NO!!" Everybody screamed, as pitch flew towards her on his nightmare. When the nightmare landed, he got off and sped towards her. As she collapsed, pitch fell to his knees and caught her in his arms, cradling her head against his shoulder.
Blood covered the stomach area of her white dress, the spear still stuck. She whimpered in pain as the guardians crowded around her, checking her wound.
"I-im so sorry baby..." pitched voice cracked as he looked at their blood covered hands. He felt awful. He had just shot his little girl. Not intentionally of course... but still. He felt extremely guilty.
"D-daddy..." She said as she held her stomach. They needed to get her to norths workshop. Now.
"We need to get her to the workshop. Now!" North said in his thick Russian accent. Jack tried to stop the bleeding, his hands covered in blood now. His eyes widened when he saw his loved ones eyes flutter, starting to lose consciousness.
"No no don't you dare! Keep your eyes open!" He said as his eyes watered. He couldn't lose his girlfriend. He loved her so much.
Shadow weakly lifted up a hand and stroked his cheek, her vision blurry. She felt lightheaded. "I-I love you jack." She said before her hand fell to her side, her eyes closing as her vision turned black.
About an hour later, jack was sitting in the hospital center of the workshop, holding shadows hand. The spear was now out of her stomach, which was stitched up and wrapped in bandages. The blood was cleaned and she had a breathing mask over her mouth and nose.
She had made it.
The heart monitor showed her steady heartbeat, an IV in her arm. She was in a black hospital gown, her shoes off.
A very soft groan escaped her lips as her eyebrows furrowed. She breathed into the mask, her eyes slowly opening. The bright light hit her retinas and she tightly closed them before opening them again. Her blurry vision slowly cleared up, her eyes scanning the room she was in.
"Honey?" Jack asked as he looked down at her, his free hand moving her hair out of her face before stroking her cheek with his thumb. Her gold eyes locked on Jack's icy blue ones, her eyes watering.
"J-jack?" She asked, a tear falling down her cheek. It broke jack's heart seeing her cry. He hushed her softly as he continued to stroke her cheek.
"You're alright. Just relax snowflake." He said before leaning down and kissing her forehead, his own eyes watering. He was so glad she was alive. They all were.
"W-where am i?" She asked as she tried to sit up but hissed in pain, laying back down.
"No sitting up shadow. You're in pain and you need to take it easy. Also, you're in north's workshop. You barely made it." He said as she took the mask off her mouth, feeling like she could breath on her own now.
"We were so worried about you. When you passed out, we thought you died..." he said as he placed his other hand over the one he was already holding.
"B-But I didn't. I-I... wait... where's my dad?" She asked. She wanted to speak with him. She wasn't mad but she really needed to talk to him.
Jack gently squeezed her hand. "He's waiting outside. He wants to speak to you. Do you want me to go get him?" He asked, which earned himself a nod from shadow. He kissed her nose before getting up and walking out of the room.
Pitch was sitting in a chair, his face in his hands. Even though she was alive, he still felt extremely guilty. He didn't mean to shoot her. He thought she hated him.
That was far from the truth.
Jack walked towards him and crossed his arms. "She wants to talk to you, pitch." He said, which caused pitch to raise his head and look at him. All he did was nod and give him a stare before getting up and walking into the room shadow was in.
He pushed the door open slowly and when he saw his daughter, his own eyes watered. Even though she was alive, he hated himself. Had his daughter died, he would have never forgiven himself.
"Baby..." He said as he glided towards her and sat down beside the bed, taking her hand in his.
"I'm so sorry..." was all he said, his voice cracking while his head hung low. Shadow looked at her father and gently lifted up his chin.
"Papa... I'm alright. I'm in pain but I'm alright." She started before she continued to speak.
"I-I ran in front of jack because I didn't want you to kill him. Or any of the guardians for that matter..." her eyes watered as she spoke. She needed to tell her father how much this bothered her.
"I-I don't want you guys fighting. They are l-like my family, Jack is my boyfriend and you are my dad. I'm so afraid that one of you will get hurt... or w-worse..."
Her voice cracked when she said that, a tear falling down her cheek. But pitch gently wiped it away with the back of his finger. "Why didn't you tell me sweetheart?" He asked. He wondered why she wouldn't tell him. Was she afraid?
She sniffled before sighing sadly. "Because I felt like you would have just brushed it off. I-it breaks my heart and scares the hell out of me when I see you guys fight. I don't want to lose any of you, I-i... I just want you guys to get along..."
Pitch looked at his daughter, a sad frown on his face. He never knew how she felt about him and the guardians fighting. But he knew now.
Especially since she almost lost her life.
"Honey... I never knew that. I just wanted to be feared in and have all the power."
Shadow looked at him as the tears kept falling down her cheeks. "A healthy amount of fear is alright. But too much isn't good. And children need happiness too.." she said as she tried to sit up again, but hissed in pain.
Pitch gently laid her back down. "No, shadow. You need to relax." He said worriedly, not wanting her to put herself in more pain than she was already in.
"Just please try to get along with them. Please... I can't bear to see you fight anymore..." she said before pitch gently brought her hand to his lips and gently kissed it.
"I will my dear. I promise." He whispered before kissing her nose.
"Get some rest. I'm not going anywhere." He said softly as he ran his fingers through her blonde hair. It always calmed her down when he did that.
Her eyelids drooped as she looked at him tiredly, a soft smile forming on her face. "I love you papa..." She then fell asleep, the heart monitor still showing her steady heartbeat. Pitch continued to comb his fingers through her hair as he listened to her soft breathing.
He was thankful that she was alright. But like he promised, he would try to not fight with the guardians any more. He didn't want to disappoint his baby girl.
