29: Weekend

Gouenji stood by the bar, leaning against the counter, his elbow resting on it, his fingers entwined with each other. The place was lively, business in full swing as drinks constantly exchanged hands and music kept changing.

It was the weekend and he was in a mood to unwind. He had decided to take a break from his stressful, dangerous business and just live in the moment.

But his moment was unable to begin as there was something still missing from the evening and he was searching for it.

His eyes then directed back towards the entrance of the bar. His lips stretched into a smirk as he anticipated the next moments.

A woman with dark hair and a black dress walked up to him and stood by the counter where he was. But she paid no attention to him, as if she didn't know him at all.

She hopped up on the chair and opened her purse. She took out her phone and looked at the time. She then put it back and closed the purse. She looked up and addressed the bartender,

"I'll have a..."

"Salt-rimmed martini. " Gouenji completed the sentence for her and then gestured the bartender to make two of those.

She turned to him with an haughty air, "Do I know you?" She seemed to have taken offense in him cutting her off and ordering for her.

"You will now. " He answered with his signature smirk.

"Just so you know, that was very rude. " She said.

"But am I wrong to presume you were going to order that? Is that not your favourite?" He answered, unfazed by her annoyance.

"Yes, I love those. " She answered in a small sheepish voice.

"I'm Gouenji Shuuya. " He extended his hand towards her.

She paused for a moment as if deciding whether he was worth it or not.

"Riie Kira. " She finally shook his hand.

"So, what do you do?" She asked after taking a sip of her martini.

"I own a whiskey company." He looked across the bar and pointed to a bottle, "That one. "

A giggle escaped Kira at the way he told her about his business but she quickly caught it and composed herself.

"And that's all?" She asked.

"Is it not enough for you?" He said with amusement.

She looked into his eyes with interest, as if studying him, her chin rested on her fist.

"Something tells me you're lying. "

"Well, you've caught me." He shrugged casually.

"So, what is it that you do that you can't tell me?" She reiterated.

"It's best you don't find out. I say it for your own safety. It's dangerous information. " He knew his warning was having the opposite effect on her but he had planned it that way.

"Is that so? And what makes you think I'm not dangerous already?" At this point she opened her purse and took out a cigarette and lit it.

"No, no," Gouenji immediately took it out of her mouth, "don't get too carried away, we're not doing this. " He spoke in his regular voice. He squashed the burning cigarette against the ashtray on the counter.

"That was to make me look dangerous!" Kira complained, the silky smoothness of her voice completely gone.

"Shuuya! You ruined it!" She looked at him with a pouting expression.

"Well, I wasn't gonna let you smoke! Not on my watch!" He argued.

But she continued to sulk.

"Okay, let's start again." He said after a pause, "Where were we?Hmm, okay!" He cleared his throat and switched his tone,

"It's best you don't find out. I say it for your own safety. It's dangerous information. " He repeated.

"Is that so?" Kira answered the same way again, "And what makes you think..." She couldn't finish when she burst out laughing,

"Well, now I can't do it. " She continued to laugh, so much so, that she began gasping for breath. Every time she slowed down, she renewed with a new fervour.

"Okay, the martini's gone to your head now. Let's just leave. " Gouenji said plainly as he got her to step off the chair.

"Where do we go next?" Kira pondered, "And don't say home! It's still the weekend and you're not usually in a fun mood. "

"What does that mean?" Gouenji took note of that last part, " You're saying I'm boring? Are you bored in my company?"

"Oops! " Kira said sheepishly as she quickly rushed towards the exit.

"Kira wait! What does that mean?" He followed after asking over and over again.

It was going to be a long weekend.
