13: Test

A/N: Loosely based on the tweet above.

"Shuuya, I'm going to be honest with you. You're going to fail this test, I love you, but there's nothing we can do about it now." Kira spoke nonchalantly, almost monotone, as she continued to search for her desired book in Raimon's library.

"No, no, no, you cannot say that!" Gouenji whispered with anxiety as he followed her closely, " You're my only hope now."

"But it's in a few hours and you cannot cover that many chapters in such short time." Kira stopped to face him and announced it matter-of-factly.

"I know, that's why I am asking you to help. Summarise it for me, please."

" Why didn't you study though?" Kira asked, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

"I- I kind of forgot about the test. " Gouenji answered evasively earning a judgemental glare from Kira.

"But in my defence! I was doing something important!" He added immediately.

"And that is?" Kira was curious.

"I was practicing my new hissatsu." He answered.

"For how long?" Kira raised a brow.

"Longer than usual. And afterwards I was thinking about it so it completely slipped my mind that we have a test today." He paused, " Can you interrogate me later? We're running out of time."

"Just fail the test." Kira shrugged, "What does it matter? It's not going to affect your final grades." With that she walked over to another shelf.

"Fail the...are you crazy?!" He exclaimed and was immediately asked by a student nearby to keep his voice down. He immediately power-walked over to Kira and continued, " If my dad found out I failed a test he would immediately blame it on soccer and stop me from playing."

Kira finally spotted the book she wanted and pulled it out of the shelf. Having concluded her search, she finally directed her complete attention towards Gouenji, "It's not that I don't want to help you, it's just I can't do it. No one can. There's too little time."

Kira made way to the librarian's counter to have the book checked out. Gouenji still followed her with urgency. Kira completed the necessary steps and with the book in her hand she made way outside, but not before turning to Gouenji one last time,

"I'm sorry but it's just too late. You are going to fail. " She said sympathetically as she reached out and squeezed his hand, "At this point it's better you think of a way to hide the result from your dad rather than trying to pass it." With that she walked out of the library.

Gouenji stood at the entrance watching her walk away when suddenly an idea hit him. He couldn't believe he hadn't thought of it before. It was the easiest way to get Kira to help him without having to give her time to process it logically in her mind like she always did.

"You're right! You can't do it! " He called out to Kira, " It's better you don't try."

As he expected, Kira immediately stopped dead in her tracks. She slowly turned to look at him, wearing an expression of curiosity and ridicule. She made her way back to him.

"What did you say?" She frowned as she looked up at him.

"I said it's good you aren't trying to prepare me for the test because if you tried you would fail. " Gouenji spoke slowly as he smirked.

"Are you challenging me?" Kira glared into his eyes intently.

"I'm only repeating your words." Gouenji feigned nonchalance.

"You're challenging me!" Kira exclaimed.

"What if I am?" Gouenji looked down at Kira with a smirk.

The next moment Kira had taken hold of his wrist and made her way back inside the library along with him, "Let's get to studying. Try to keep up as I speak because we have very little time."

"This trick never fails." Gouenji muttered to himself as he walked back in.

................

"So? " Kira peeked into the scored answer paper Gouenji was looking at.

"Barely made it. Whew!" Gouenji held the paper up to show Kira.

"No, no I could have taught you better. I failed the challenge." Kira put her head down on the table in frustration as Gouenji chuckled awkwardly, not knowing what to say.
