THE MUMMY RETURNS: Wanting to Stay

(A/N This is after Izzy took the scepter away from Jonathan.)

As Jonathan pouted about losing the scepter, Ardeth and Jamie chuckled at that. Then she reached over and gently stroked Horus’s neck.

“He really is a clever bird,” she mentioned.

“He is,” he nodded.

He then let Horus go to her, resting on her fingers. Jamie smiled at the bird then back at Ardeth.

“He had to learn from someone,” Jamie pointed out.

Ardeth chuckled and replied, “It was not taught alone.”

She blushed a little as she looked back at Horus then her smile faltered a little.

“I’ve missed you, Ardeth,” she confessed, looked back to him, and replied, “Everyday, I thought about how I should’ve gone with you. I felt like half of myself was missing for nine years.”

He leaned toward her and caressed her cheek, saying, “I’ve missed you as well, Jamie. I would’ve wanted you to come with me too, but that would have been selfish and dangerous. I had to make sure the creature never awoke again and if he did and you were killed, I would’ve never forgiven myself.”

“I understand. But when you love someone, doesn’t that also mean you’re willing to risk your life for them? That no matter what dangers come, you’ll be there by their side? Danger is part of adventure and if there weren’t, it wouldn’t be worth it. That’s how I see a life with you; risks that are worth taking as long I have you,” Jamie explained.

Ardeth sighed as he closed his eyes for a brief moment. Then she brought her other hand to his cheek to get him to look at her then gently kissed him. This lasted for a minute before they needed air.

“Please. When this is done and I decide to stay with you, please do not try to talk me out of it,” she requested.

He gently took Horus back, kissed her forehead, then whispered, "I promise.”
