1.1 The Lost and Found
Abhira's eyes welled up with tears as she looked up, her voice trembling with emotion.
"Mumma, you left this world, but you never stopped surprising me, naa?" she said, her words barely above a whisper.
She felt a mix of emotions: shock, happiness, and sadness all swirled together in her chest.
"Mumma always said that life is full of surprises," Abhira said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I never expected this. I never expected to have a brother like you."
Meanwhile, Abhir's face contorted in shock as he stared at Abhira, his eyes wide with disbelief. He was standing in his jail cell, his mind reeling from the revelation.
"No, no, this can't be true!" he exclaimed, his voice shaking with anguish.
"Mumma can't be dead! Say it's a lie! She's not gone, she can't leave me!" He felt like his whole world had been turned upside down.
He had always thought that his mother was alive, that she would come back to him one day. But now, he was faced with the harsh reality that she was truly gone.
Abhir's eyes scanned the room, as if searching for answers. He felt a wave of grief wash over him, and he slumped against the wall, his body shaking with sobs.
"Why didn't you tell me, Mumma?" he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "Why did you leave me?"
Abhir's voice cracked as he spoke, his words tumbling out in a heartfelt lament. "I tried to find you so much, Mumma... for 23 long years, I kept thinking that I'd meet you one day," he said, his eyes brimming with tears.
"I imagined all the things we'd do together, all the memories we'd create. You'd hold me close, make me sleep on your lap, hug me tight, and call me 'betu'... and all my problems would just vanish."
He paused, taking a deep breath as he struggled to compose himself. "I dreamed of the way you'd smile at me, the way your eyes would light up with love whenever you looked at me.
I longed to hear your voice, to feel your touch, to be enveloped in your warmth and love." Abhir's voice cracked again, and he felt a lump form in his throat.
But now, the harsh reality hit him like a ton of bricks. "But now... everything is not going to be right," he whispered, his body shaking with sobs.
"Nothing will happen the way I wanted it to. You're really gone, Mumma... and I'll never get to experience all those things I dreamed of. I'll never get to feel your love, your warmth, your presence in my life."
Abhir's heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces, and he couldn't help but wonder why fate had been so cruel to him.
Abhir's body crumpled, and he fell to his knees, overcome with grief. He buried his face in his hands and cried his heart out, great sobs racking his body.
"First Papa left me, then Dad... and now you too, Mumma!" he wailed, his voice hoarse with emotion.
His eyes became blurred as tears streamed down his face, and he couldn't see anything except the darkness of his own despair.
He felt like he was drowning in a sea of sorrow, unable to find a lifeline to cling to.
"I'm an orphan now... I'm an orphan now!" he cried out, his voice echoing through the empty spaces of his heart.
The words cut deep, a painful reminder that he was truly alone in the world.
Abhir's body shook with sobs, his heart shattered into a million pieces, and he felt like he would never be whole again.
Abhira's eyes welled up with tears as she watched her brother break down. She had never seen Abhir like this before, so vulnerable and heartbroken.
Her own pain and grief were mirrored in his face, and she felt a deep sense of connection to him.
Without thinking, Abhira rushed to the jail cell and grabbed the key from the nearby table.
Her hands trembled as she inserted the key into the lock and turned it, the sound of the mechanism clicking open echoing through the air.
Without thinking, Abhira rushed to Abhir's side and wrapped her arms around him. She held him close, trying to comfort him as he sobbed uncontrollably.
Tears streamed down her own face as she felt her brother's pain and sorrow.
"I'm here, bhaiya," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "I'm here for you. We're in this together, always." Abhira's words were a promise, a vow to stand by her brother's side through all the ups and downs of life.
How could Mumma think that her Abhir is no more?" Abhir whispered, his voice barely audible as he spoke the words that had been haunting him.
Abhira's grip on him grew tighter, as if she could sense the depth of his pain.
Abhir's eyes welled up with tears as he looked at Abhira, his voice cracking with emotion.
"Did she forget about me after you were born, Abhira?" he asked, the question hanging in the air like a challenge. "Did I mean so little to her that she could just... forget?"
Abhir's voice rose in anguish as he asked the question that had been tormenting him. "Why didn't she try to find me?" he demanded, his eyes blazing with a mix of sadness and anger.
Abhira's grip on him tightened as she tried to comfort him, but Abhir's pain was too raw, too fresh. "Why did she give up on me so easily?" he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.
"Didn't I mean anything to her? Was I just a burden she was happy to get rid of?"
"aisa nhi hai bhai!" abhira whispered
Abhir's eyes snapped to Abhira's face, his gaze intense and searching. "Kya aisa nahi hai?" he whispered back, his voice barely audible over the sound of his own ragged breathing.
Abhira's eyes welled up with tears as she shook her head. "Mumma...Mumma didn't abandon you, bhai," she stammered, her voice cracking with emotion.
"She loved you, she always loved you."
Abhir's face contorted in a mixture of pain and confusion. "Then why?" he whispered, his voice trembling with anguish. "Why did she leave me here? Why did she never come back for me?"
ABHIR
I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, all the air sucked out of me. "Why didn't she try to find me?" I whispered, the words tearing at my soul.
I couldn't understand why Mumma would give up on me so easily.
I looked at Abhira, my eyes searching for answers, but she just shook her head, tears streaming down her face.
I felt a wave of anger wash over me, mixed with a deep sadness. Why did Mumma think I was dead? Why did she never try to find me?
I thought back to all the times I'd felt so alone, so unloved. The memories stung, and I felt a lump form in my throat.
I remembered the countless nights I'd spent wondering why my mother didn't want me, why she didn't love me enough to keep me.
"Was I just a burden to her?" I whispered, my voice cracking with emotion. The thought was too much to bear. I felt like I was going to shatter into a million pieces.
Abhira's grip on me tightened, and she pulled me into a tight hug. "No, bhaiya," she whispered.
"You were never a burden. Mumma loves you, and she's sorry for what happened." But I couldn't shake off the feeling that I wasn't good enough, that I was somehow flawed.
Suddenly, I pushed Abhira away, my eyes blazing with anger and hurt. "Stay away from me!" I spat, my voice venomous.
"I'm not your brother. You're nothing to me!" I yelled, the words tearing out of my throat like a wild animal unleashed.
Abhira's face crumpled in shock and pain, but I didn't care. I was beyond reason, beyond compassion.
All I could feel was the searing agony of betrayal and rejection. I turned away from her, my heart hardened into stone.
