Chapter 25

I couldn't see, but I could hear myself breathing. Everything was still black. I opened my eyes and saw nothing but light. There was light surrounding me and I felt like I was in a different world. I stood up and all the sudden I was standing on the water. It was still and so calm it looked like glass. I looked down and could see fish and turtles and all kinds of marine life swimming under me. My heart skipped a beat when I saw a shark.

"Don't worry. He can't see you." A voice called from a distance. I looked up and out of the light a shape made their way to me. It was a woman. She had long dirty blond hair and looked like she was in her mid twenties. I'm not sure how I knew, I just did. I knew who she was.

"Mrs. Curtis," I mumbled. She grinned at me. Austin and her looked so much a like. She had the same smile as Soda and the same eyes as Ponyboy just a little more green. She was built very athletically. I could tell she passed that gene on to all of her boys especially Darrel. I just stared at her. I was confused, and then I was scared.

"It's Ariel," she answered.

"I fell," I said quietly to myself. "I fell and I hit my head underwater." She watched me remember and I stared at the sea and then at the brightness that surrounded us. "I'm dead," I whispered.

"Not yet, Hendrix," she responded. "The ocean brought you to me. Well, God did technically. But He used the ocean to do it."

"Why?"

"You're stuck. You are in love with both of my sons. And they are both in love with you." I watched her as she walked to me. "I need to show you a few things." I nodded in agreement and she gently put her hand on my cheek. We closed our eyes and I felt every molecule being pulled from my body. Then when I opened my eyes, we were in Tulsa. I gasped slightly. I knew we were in some time warp and other dimension. I could feel it. But I didn't know where, or when.

"What day is it?" I asked.

"May 23rd 1965," she answered.

"The day I came here." She nodded and then walked up the steps of the Curtis home. We entered and there we were. All of us sitting and talking. I watched myself and the other boys.

"Let me guess." I said grinning. "Ponyboy And Johnny Cade." They grinned shyly at me and nodded. "You're definitely Two-bit." I laughed and he did too. "Steve. Darrel." They both did quick nods and smiled at me. "And you must be Dally." I said to the scary young man with his head down. I couldn't see his face. I waited for a response but didn't get one. I looked over at Sodapop and he shook his head telling me not to worry.

"It's very nice to meet you Henna. Will you be staying for dinner?" Darrel asked me politely.
"Sodapop invited me, but if I'm a burden I don't have to."
"Of course you aren't a burden. We'd love for you to stay." I grinned at him and followed him to the kitchen to help him cook.
After getting the casserole in the oven I began to set the table. I looked into the living room at the boys and admired them. I remember thinking how they could easily be my home. I wanted them to be my home.

"Why are we here?" I asked Ariel.

"Because you need to see what really happened that night."

We watched us eat dinner and then I listened as I asked the boys for a hotel near here. Then Dallas offered to walk me there. Ariel and I followed me and Dally outside and walked behind them.

"So your accent tells me you're not from here." I stated trying to start some sort of conversation. He lit a cigarette and shook his head no.
"New York." Was all he said.
"Why'd you come here?" I asked.
"Why do you care?" He responded. He wasn't a friendly person. But I hoped maybe that would change.
"Well I-" I started but was cut off.
"Look." He said stopping us both. "I don't know who the hell you are and why you're here but I'm just walking you cause Sodapop would be pissed of his little girlfriend got jumped. I'm not doing this to become best pals alright?" My face burned and I remembered my stomach hurt when he said this. That always happened when I was younger and my mom or my teacher would be mad at me. I hated confrontation and I hated getting into trouble.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled. He looked at me and for the first time his eyes softened a little bit. We began walking again we're almost to our destination.
"Why you wear your hair like that?" He asked and i almost froze I was so confused.
   "What?" I asked.
He stopped at the gate of the hotel and looked at me while I walked in.
"Covers your face." He said once again choosing very few words. I stood confused and waited for him to finish. For the first time all night he grinned. "That's a bad thing. You got a pretty face Henna." He turned around leaving me shocked.

"That's when I took the picture," I said as Dally walked past us. "I remember all of this, so why are you showing me?"

"You may know what you did next, but you don't know what he did," she said. We then followed Dally back to Bucks. He walked in and there were many people drunk and dancing around. A blonde with big curls and bright lipstick ran up to Dally.

"Hi baby," she spoke seductively and had a heavy southern accent.

"Sylvia, no. We're done." Dally walked away and she went after him.

"Dallas cut it out. You know we're meant to be together. I'm your girl," she put her hands on his shoulders and he flung them off forcefully.

"No. We aren't. Get out!" He tried to walk up the stairs but she stopped him once again.

"Dally I'm the girl for you and you know it. You ain't ever gonna find nobody who puts up with your sorry ass," her voice sounded like pure venom. My fave burned watching her touch him and I wanted to grab her and fling her away from him, but I couldn't.

"Sylvia, listen real careful all right?" He paused and leaned close to her. "I just met a girl. A real girl. She's pure and beautiful and I'm going to get her. I want her. And not in the way I ever wanted you. I don't want her damn mini skirt on my floor one night and on some other greasers the next. I want her, and I'm going to get her. And I'm going to start by getting rid of you." He walked away leaving her furious and jealous. He walked off and went upstairs.

I looked at Ariel in shock and she just smiled at me. "He ain't as bad as he seems now is he?" She asked.

"So you want me to be with Dallas?"

"Not exactly. Now it's time I show you something else," she responded. She put her hands on my face and we closed our eyes and once again I felt myself being pulled to another dimension.
