#1| A Picture Of Misery
❝ 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭. ❞
In the early morning, the sun shone at its brightest, the birds chirped merrily singing their song, solemn zephyr made it the perfect morning. Everything appeared serene until a loud crash sound was heard and the birds flew away from their respective places.
The mansion was filled with the voices of the falling crockery, vase, glass pieces and what not. The maids stood at bay, flinching by the clanking voices of the crashing items and expensive glass pieces but the woman behind all this mess was too angered to listen to anyone.
Each set that was being mindlessly crashed into a thousand pieces cost more than the lifetime salary of the maids, but the woman responsible for the mess paid no heed to it. Anger pulsated in her veins to the point, she was practically shaking in rage and it was impossible for anyone to calm her down, if not for her husband.
Their hearts came into their throats when they saw the woman mercilessly catapulting her wedding picture and the prestigious 'Businessman of the year' award, breaking it into pieces, the glass piercing into her skin, which she cared less about.
"Mrs. Jeon, they're Mr. Jeon's priceless possessions! Please–"
“Do you think I care? Why the fuck?!” She scoffed, arching her perfectly plucked brow at the woman. The former momentarily halted in her actions for a moment and glared at the poor woman, making her flinch and go back to her position. Her one glare meant no more voices should be heard except hers.
With no more interruptions on her side, she once again started throwing random things that came into her view, until the mansion went extremely silent as the woman's husband entered with a furious look on his face.
“What the hell are you doing, Calista? Have you gone nuts?!” He walked up with hurried steps and the maids instantly scurried around, pretending to be busy in some imaginative work. She stood still in her position with a blank expression, her eyes holding the vexation and the pain of betrayal.
The male tightly held her by her shoulders, his nails digging into her skin but she harshly jerked off his hands from hers, her eyes portraying disgust as she slapped the male, making his face turn sideways. A line of gasps were heard from the corner of the hall, but Calista was too carried away by anger to even notice anything else.
For her, what mattered was this man in front, the man she claimed to be her husband.
“What were YOU doing with that darn woman?!” She questioned, her eyes reddened with vexation as the other's eyes widened realizing what she meant. He went silent and left her arms for a moment, his eyes never meeting hers and his silence added fuel to the blazing fire.
“Oh, you have no answer now? JEON JUNGKOOK! ARE YOU FUCKING CHEATING ON ME?!” She screamed her heart out, tears cascaded down from her eyes as her heart shattered into pieces from his silence.
She was aware of their faltering relationship, she was aware of his distance towards her, but still somewhere in the corner of her heart, she has a small hope that he might deny the accusations that were put on him. Maybe he'll say, 'No, it isn't true.' ; but his silence meant that he was accepting the accusation.
After a good two minutes of the thick tension colliding between them, she huffed out a deep breath which she didn't know she was holding for a while and yelled further, releasing all her pent up frustrations.
“I was a fool to love you all this time, when in reality it didn't mean anything to you right?” She uttered, hitting him on his torso by her fists, as he went numb hearing her words. He took some steps back as she continued hitting him on his torso.
“I know I was never according to your standards, but at least… at least you should've let me know ‘No Calista, I don't like you.’ Why? Why did you play with my feelings? WHY?!” She released her inner frustration as all of this was too much for her.
His eyes widened at her confession, she never revealed her feelings up until now and he was starstruck as he listened to her. As much as he wanted to hear her inner feelings towards him, he never expected to hear it in such circumstances.
He wanted to give her some space because their marriage happened in a haste. He got a lot busy in his work, at times even forgetting about her existence but in his attempt of being a good human, he forgot she needed him the most at times– times when she was left alone in his huge mansion, times when she felt the need of someone who'll cheer for her when she receives an accomplishment or times when she just needed someone to put her head on and cry her heart out.
Just because she portrayed herself to be alright, didn't really mean she was doing well and just because he was portraying to give her some space, didn't mean he wasn't craving for her attention.
He wanted to let out his feelings for her, the day he received his biggest accomplishment 'Businessman of the year' award, but then this incident happened and everything came crashing down like a house of cards.
'Was our relationship always this hollow?' He wondered, looking at her vexed state. The glass pieces of his broken award, pierced into feet and blood dripped out of it.
Well, how can she be calm when she witnessed the most heartbreaking scene in her life?
She saw her husband kissing another woman in his office.
She saw it all.
And that broke her heart.
Calista Choi and Jeon Jungkook have been classmates since University days and above all, the best of friends. Suddenly, one day their families decided to let them get married just to strengthen the bond between the two companies. It was a tough decision for both of them, actually a very tough choice because their friendship was suddenly put on a pedestal in the name of marriage. They weren't ready for all of that, truth to be told, they wanted to grow individually in their lives.
Nevertheless, they gave in just to fulfill their parents’ wishes but their relationship was going south. They became even more distant after getting married, their friendship felt as if it was a distant memory and their lives became even busier than ever to even have time to see each other. It was too late when they realised, what blunder they did.
University days was the time when the two of them used to enjoy, laugh, be carefree and do what they liked without any boundations but at present, everything appears to be falling apart, like the threads shredding out of a cloth piece.
Calista slowly started to have feelings for Jungkook after they got married, it was just a little crush in the beginning but as time passed by a couple of years, this small crush turned into love. She never got the courage to say her feelings to him but she was certain, when there's the right time everything would fall into place but this incident…
Him kissing another woman.
That scene wrecked her brain and made her insides churn with fury because as long as she knew Jungkook, even though he didn't show any interest in her, she was aware he was loyal towards her but seeing that scene truly, left her speechless. All her frustrations, insecurities, failures embarked upon her like a fallen dream and it resulted in her enraged behaviour, her fury blazed like a silk cloth catching fire.
Maybe, she should've revealed her feelings, life would've been easier.
Maybe if she tried to talk with him, he wouldn't have gone for another woman, would he?
But then again, he cheated.
Those were the thoughts that rang in her brain like a hammer bolting an iron piece. She clenched her hair in frustration.
“Calista, your leg is bleeding! Let's sit and talk, I'll explain.” He expressed his worry, his eyes glistened as he spoke but the woman was so caught up in her anger that she shut him up by the motion of her hand and instantly sprinted out of the house, before he could explain his side.
“Listen!” He called her but she didn't listen and he had no choice but to follow her.
----
Her car maneuvered over numerous lanes as she drove at an insanely high speed, tears obscured her vision and her phone was continuously buzzing with numerous calls from Jungkook, which she ignored.
His vehicle was just behind hers and he was certain, she was driving at a dangerous speed but she was in no mood to stop right now. She rolled her eyes as another call from Jungkook displayed on her screen. She just wanted to run away from that, as soon as possible, everything was choking her from inside and she would've gone crazy if she stayed a minute more at that place.
She pushed the accelerator and drove further, too consumed by her own misery to notice that a truck was coming in her way, she took the wrong lane and considering her speed, it was impossible to stop at his moment.
She noticed the vehicle but it was too late when she got into her senses.
Everything appeared to be in slow motion for the woman as her vehicle collided with the magnanimous truck, blood oozed out of her head and she knew her bones had been crushed and a major part of her body was disoriented.
"CALISTA!" Jungkook screamed as he halted his vehicle and came out hysterically. He registered the scene of the accident, still unable to believe his eyes as he rushed towards her car, taking out her fragile body in his arms.
All she saw was Jungkook's distressed figure cupping her face, tears flowing uncontrollably from his brown orbs as he screamed but she couldn't hear anything.
“I'm-I’m sorry, Calista!” He sobbed, holding her close to his heart, as he took a hold of her cold hand, his custom made suit stained with her blood.
And everything went black.
----
Calista was hurriedly carried to the hospital. Throughout the way, Jungkook cried out in the ambulance, even blacking out for a moment as the paramedics rushed to his aid. He blamed himself for her to be in such a state.
If anything were to happen to her, he would never forgive himself.
As soon as they reached the hospital, the team of skilled doctors and nurses carried the injured woman on the stretcher into the operation theater, while the man anxiously waited for everything to be fine. Maybe, she wouldn't talk to him for days, maybe she might wish to leave him but she'll be alive, she'll exist, that's what he desired at that moment.
'Please, please, Calista, stay alive.' He wasn't a believer of God but if some miracle were to happen and bring his wife back... he joined his hands and begged the Almighty, tears uncontrollably lashing out his eyes.
His phone rang but he chose to ignore it, as he sat on the steel bench, his plain white shirt reddened with blood. He clearly remembers her last words, "I was a fool to love you all this time."
"If you want, I would never show you my face, Calista. Please, be alright!" He cajoled himself, as he gazed at their picture of their university days, securely kept in his wallet. They looked so happy back then, with almost nothing to worry about. Warm embers cascaded down from his face as he caressed the picture with his trembling hands.
Oh! How badly he wanted to clear the misunderstanding, how much he wanted to say that he too, loved her the same way she did, but where did it all go wrong? Was it when he forgot to wish her on her birthday? Or was it when he was unable to spend time with her?
Why did she have to lose her brain and drive the vehicle at such a high speed?
If only he could go back in time, he would do everything to make her his, tell her how much he cherished and loved her presence. How much he craved to be with her!
Everything went terribly wrong from his side.
Maybe, it was too late for them to be normal again.
The light of the OT turned green and the team of doctors came out with a distressed look. Jungkook ran up to them, his lips quivered as he asked about his wife.
“H-how is s-she?” He stammered, unable to form words and his eyes glistened as tears flowed through them but the doctor sighed patting his shoulder.
“We're sorry Mr. Jeon but she lost a lot of blood, we couldn't save her.” He spoke out and went away with slowed steps. The other doctors patted the male's shoulder to give him some emotional support but he was too stunned to speak anything.
Those words rang in his brain like a mantra.
‘She lost a lot of blood.’
“N-NO!” He screamed and instantly fell on knees, crying out his agony like a mad man.
“You can collect her body from the mortuary.” Another doctor uttered in a low voice, understanding the male's state.
What sort of lunacy is this?
They are a group of professionals, how can they not save a patient?
No, she can't leave him. NO WAY!
Everything appeared to be shattering for the male as he couldn't believe his ears and what his life had turned to. The woman he loved all his life, left his side and he couldn't even propose his feelings towards her.
If only he could turn back time…
If only he could see her smile again.
His vision blurred and black spots started appearing in front as he passed out in the hospital hallway, his body collided with the cold floor.
