Snape and the Giant Squid

My brand new fanfic. It isn't going to be long, but I'm going to try to make it pretty funny. Happy reading.

Much love,

Chapter 1

*~*~*~*~*~ Summer 1972 *~*~*~*~*

Twelve year old Severus sat alone is his tiny, mouldy room. His father had locked him in there, but not before punching him hard in the eye. Sev's head was throbbing violently as be hugged his knees while hiding in the corner. His stupid mother always turned a blind eye to the abuse as she knew she'd get worse if she stood up or him. He'd gotten his letter from Hogwarts, telling him his school supplies, but his father tore it up and screamed at him that'd he'd never see that freaky school ever again, ever.

"BOOOY!!" a thundering voice boomed, shaking the thin, crumbling walls. Sev flinched. He hated when his dad yelled. Standing up shakily, Sev opened the door and headed back downstairs to see what his father wanted.

"Y-yes father?" He asked, voice quivering.

"Clean my shirt. It's filthy and there are no others I can wear." Sev's dad growled. "I want it sparkling white."

His father threw a bundle at him. Sev unravelled it. Whatever it was, the bus me was not a shirt. The thing in his hands was a mixture of dried vomit, blood, beer, and other substances and smells Sev didn't want to think about.

"Where should I wash it?" Sev asked.

"Outside you thick piece of Snape. I don't want it stinking out the kitchen." His dad yelled.

Sev nodded and started to walk to the backdoor. He paused at the back door when his father yelled at him again.

"And no using your magic, freak!"

"Yes father." Sev called back.

Opening the door, he felt the cool summer breeze hit his face. And he knew that it was dinner time. For Sev, that meant whatever his oaf of a father left after he was done. Sighing quietly, he made his way down to the hidden pond at the end of the garden. His mother had enchanted it so it was crystal blue in colour. But when Sev dunked the horrid piece of clothing into it, the blue turned to a marshy green colour. The water was freezing to touch, but Sev out his hands under anyway.

He rubbed and scrubbed the shirt, desperately trying to clean it, but no difference was made. It was an hour or two after he had started when Sev finally gave up. He couldn't clean it, no matter how hard he tried. Sev sat back in sadness and defeat. His father was not going to be happy.

"I can't give up now." Sev whispered determinedly.

He sat forward and started to scrub again when suddenly, the water started to ripple. Sev took his hands out of the murky water and leaned closer. Suddenly, a sunburnt coloured head poked up out the water. Sev gasped as the eyes of it blinked. The mysterious creature bobbed forward, making the water go crystal blue again as it pasted. Once the water was clear, Sev could see that it was a baby squid. He reached down and started stroking the squids head softly.

"Hello," he cooed at it, "how did you get here?"

The squid just twirled its tentacles and seemed to purr happily. Sev was about to laugh, when a thunderous voice boomed behind him once again.

"BOOOOOY! WHERE'S MY SHIIRT!" The voice yelled.

Sev sighed and stood up and took the shirt and scrunched it up in his ghostly pale hands. He walked slowly to the living room where his parents were sitting on the sofa.

"Give me my shirt." his father growled.

Sev closed his eyes and held out his hand which held the shirt. He felt it being ripped from his hands.

"WHAT?" his dad cried in anger. Sev opened his eyes to see that the shirt was no longer horrid shades of greens and reds and browns, but it was white. So white in fact that it was almost glowing. Sev had to restrain himself from smiling with triumph.

"I warned you, freak, not to use your stupid powers!" his father roared, striking Sev's cheek, sending him backwards. Suddenly, the back door flew open and something rushed forward and attacked the violent man. Sev looked up to see the squid wrapped around his father's face, suffocating him. His mother had taken out her wand and aimed it at the crazy animal that was squeaking wildly. She shot a spell at it, but it moved out the way and hit her husband square in the face, causing him to be knocked unconscious. The squid dropped to the floor and seemed to hover out of the room.

Intrigued, Sev followed. But when he got outside, there wasn't a small squid, there was a giant squid.

"What the-"Sev gasped, dumbfounded.

The squid wrapped a tentacle around his waist and hoisted him on top of its head. It crouched down and jumped, propelling it skywards. Sev held on for dear life as they soared into the clouds.

"W-what are you?" Sev stammered.

"I am the Giant Squid. And I'm here to take you to Hogwarts." The squid said inside his mind. Sev laughed. That's one way to make an entrance, ride in on a Giant Squid.

The view was very nice from the sky. The Squid had put a protective bubble around them so they could breathe and keep warm. But there was still a cool breeze that swept Sev's hair back and ruffled his clothes as he sat on the Squids head. The beautiful sunset made him smile. The red of the sunset reminded him of Lily ... Lily. He'd need to send her an owl when he got there.

He'd never been somewhere so beautiful, or somewhere so high for that matter. Sighing happily, Sev stood up, spread his arms like wings and closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of freedom. Taking a deep breath in, he started to sing, loud and clear because no one around them would be deafened.

"A whole new world

A new fantastic point of view

No one to tell me no or where to go

Or say I'm only dreaming

A whole new world

A dazzling place I never knew

Unbelievable sights

Indescribable feelings

Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling

Through an endless diamond sky

I'm like a shooting star

I've come so far

I can't go back

To where I used to be

A whole new world

Every turn a surprise

With new horizons to pursue

Every moment gets better

I'll chase them anywhere

There's time to spare

Let me share this whole new world with you!" Sev sung.

"Are you quite done?" Squid asked.

"Uh, sorry." Sev said sheepishly.

"It's fine. But next time don't sing so loud. I might lose concentration, fall, and kill us both."

"Was I really that bad?" Sev asked, crestfallen.

"Oh yeah, terrible. But it was a nice song." Squid said happily in Sev's mind.

Sev lay down. A blanket magically appearing over him. He settled down to go to sleep, but not before he had to get a few things off his mind.

"Hey Squid?" Sev whispered.

"Yes, Severus?"

"How come you can talk? And what is your name?" Sev asked.

"I am a magical Squid called Benjamin." He replied, "Now sleep my little squidling; we have a hard few days ahead of us."

Sev smiled before getting comfier. As he drifted off, he somehow got thinking about how the Squid found him, and why it couldn't just take him a quicker way to Hogwarts, his one and only true home....
