Part 13, Knock-knock

I lock the door before turning my back to it. I'm greeted with darkness from my blinds being shut even in the middle of the afternoon. I dump my dirty clothes on top of the now growing pile in the corner and then climb onto my bed. I hear nothing except the slow beating of my heart and me breathing. I did have a clock in my room. It would tick so loudly at night; on one morning I found it on the floor in pieces. At least it stopped ticking.

Outside I hear the squeaky old trolley stop in front of my door followed by the jingle of keys before my door opens, flooding my room with light. The look on the nurse lady's face makes me smile a little. Everyone that sees me react the same. Not because of my pale skin and dark circles but because of my eyes. My eyes have gone from a light blue to a deep, even blood red as well as my hair has started to darken with the roots turning black. The trolley lady calls to another while I just watch her, with my eyes glowing, piercing through in the dark.

A second nurse comes in, silently collecting my dirty clothes pile while the trolley lady places a tray of food on the bedside table backing out slowly and closing the door behind her. After eating the half decent food, I lie back on my bed. Before I know it I've drifted off to sleep. Shortly after falling asleep I'm woken up from talking outside my door. I first hear two little kids.
"You sure this is the right room?" A light girl questions, she sounds scared.
"I'm sure. I heard strange noises coming from here." A boy says trying to sound confident or just trying to impress the girl. Silence follows then a soft knock on the door.

Sliding off my bed I make my way to the door. The click of the lock scares the two outside, making them jump. I open it just enough that they just see half of my face. They look the same age if not a year or two younger than me. All they do is stare at me.
