Twenty-five

We all walked out onto the streets of Private Drive with caution, knowing that even the dim street lights could expose us to numerous dangers.
Harry snapped open the cage door for his snowy white owl, Hedwig, to flutter out and to freely join the others. Majestically she flew around me, allowing her white feathers to tickle my side before soaring back to the real Harry. I let out a quiet giggle as the last moment of enjoyment then followed Lubin and Tonks to our mode of transportation.

I was flying by Thesral, a creature that I was stunned to meet after the death of Dumbledore, one I could have only met in those circumstances. The animal was horse-like but more sinister in its appearance. The creature's body was alarmingly boney, and its skin and hair were darker than an empty night sky. The thestral sprouted large black leathery wings from its back that resemble a bat, and in areas where it didn't look like a bat or horse, the thestral was very much reptilian especially in its dragon-like facial features. Thestrals had pale blank white eyes that stood out against the deep colour of its glossy frame, eyes that you'd expect to accompany death. They were the most beautiful creates I had ever come across in their darkness.

I placed a hand on my Thestrals snout smiling encouragingly at it, and the creatures white eyes softened the slightest, then I rested my head on the skull of the creature hugging it and took a deep breath in. There was comfort in their darkness, and danger that I couldn't place, one that brought me back to a foggy memory of a feeling. The creature made much sense to me against their difference.

I stepped back, and the Thestral bowed deeply allowing me to mount its back and hold onto the creatures main to stable myself.
"You can do this" I encouraged both myself and the Thestral.

Tonks and Lupin were by my side on their brooms, and I glanced nervously towards them as Mad-eye reminded us all of our meeting point.

"Good luck, everyone" Moody nodded standing in front of the aligned wizards. "On the count of three" he instructed, and my stomach turned over at the reality of the closeness of events.
"One" he stared, and everyone looked around at each other a final time.
"Two" with a shaking body, I leaned forward gripping onto the Thestral as tight as possible without harming the creature.
"Three" Mad-eye finalised with a slam of his staph onto the stone floor, and with that, the Thestral lurched forward and swooped upwards into the sky with its fleshy wings.

The sky was cloudy and grim, but not too ominous in its shading to blind me from my surroundings. Many Harrys flew past, and the heavy lighting of the city made its way past the clouds. The air was cold on my face, and my eyes stung slightly despite the protection of the glasses.

I never got used to flying, it was one thing my muggle upbringing never allowed me to accept, but the idea of falling to my death had to be pushed back for now.

In almost an instant, a disturbance filled the air. My eyebrows frowned together, and my feet tucked further under the creature for security as the sky grew darker.
Out of the darkness, Death Eaters began dropping from the clouds, surround the groups of people including myself, Tonks, and Lupin, and from the cracks of the clouds flashes of green light would appear. Masked and threatening they drew out their wants trying to hit us with damaging spells. I drew out my wand and yelled:
"Expelliarmus!" at an oncoming figure that was covered by its dark robes, and the Thestral darted forward avoiding the hits of the cult members.

An ear-shattering blast came from behind me, and belching flames were visible. A scream was heard directly behind it. With force, I tugged onto the main of the Thestral.

"We have to help the others!" I yelled at the creature above the noise of the chaos, and although it appeared to strongly disagree it sharply turned its head around heading towards what we had initially avoided.
I looked to my side to notice that Tonks and Lupin were gone, and the fear that came with assumptions settled in.

We stopped in the air when we noticed Bill and Fleur who were attempting to guard themselves against the force of the Death eaters. From their blind spot, a wizard raised their wand.
"Incarcerous!"  I hit them without a second thought which had led the opposing wizard to be restricted by rope and blinded, it screamed shrilly,  it was clear by the tone that the wizard had been a man, and he plummeted off of his broom disappearing within seconds.
I fired a continuous number of spells giving Flur and Bill time to escaped their cornered situation, but there were far too many for me to singlehandedly fight off. My efforts became weaker with each fire, and my breathing grew heavy. A shot hit the side of my body, but thankfully the spell had not been as evasive as pervious green flashes. I wince and stumble back slightly but by stability on my Thestral never completely faded.

We carried on forward once more, trying to escape the mess, and in a panic, I carelessly fired around me.
The noise of menacing laughter, screams, including the aggressive shots of spells become louder, and my ears rang above the sounds. The flashes of light and the racket of destruction were enough for me to let out a primal scream of frustration.

I analyse my surroundings, noticing that I was completely isolated for any members of my team, groups upon groups of Death Eaters were following me raising their wands in threat to harm. A single tear managed to roll down my cheek, and my whole body trembled from adrenaline.
And then, as though they heard a call, the Death Eaters vanished back into the darkness like rats back to the sewage.

It became oddly quiet, and with that silence, it had been clear that I was violently gasping for air with anxiety pulsating through my entire body, leaving me to feel light-headed. I leaned my head on the back of the creature I was riding now sobbing at the feeling of fright, hopelessness, and pain that rippled through my body. The overwhelming feeling of catastrophe fogged my mind, and I had no idea where I was heading, all I knew was that I was alone with my weakness desperately trying my hardest to ignore the feelings for just once in my two years of madness I needed to logically help myself.

Travelling north, I eventually found my way and settled down on the dull grass next to a crooked house. I mounted off of the horse-like creature, but my legs failed as support, I crashed onto the ground and laughed lightly out of discomfort.

"Alive" is all I could manage to comprehend when the coolness of the earth hit me.

"You must be Thea" a short redhead woman observed helping me up, she had a kind warming smile with a maternal aura around her.
With her assumption, I noticed I had my body back, and I quickly took off the glasses I no longer needed. The trousers were now too long on me, the shirt was too tight, and the jacket was baggy. I combed my fingers through my long hair and sighed thankfully. "Nice to meet you, Mrs Weasly, thank you so much for your help" I croaked stumbling.
"The others are inside dear" she informed, and I nodded happily following her towards the house.

Before I even stepped a foot indoors Lupin pushed me backwards holding his wand towards me, I gasped.
"What were your last words before we left the house?" He quizzed, and I frowned towards him.
"What?" I gapped, he repeated himself with a louder fury.
I scrunched my eyes and wracked my brain. "Umm... It's not my safety I'm concerned about" I rushed watching him with worry as he lowered his wand.
"I'm sorry you just took much longer than the rest of us" he spoke gently.
"Threstals don't come with maps" I struggle holding onto my side pushing past Remus to follow the warm light that came from the household.

The room that I entered was crowded but very bright in oranges, yellows and other warm tones. Books were stacked on every mantelpiece, and an old radio quietly sang next to the sink. Throughout the room, there were many vases with bright fresh flowers and bronze cauldrons that reflected the candlelight. It was extremely warm, and my body relaxed under the heat. It was a place easy to get comfortable.

"Where were you? We were worried" Harry questioned and despite his exhausted state he used his best efforts to wrap his long thin arms around me and lift me slightly in his desperate relieved clutch, and I left out a yelp of pain, prompting him to drop me in fear.
"Are you alright?" Harry panicked, putting his hands on my shoulders and looking me over.
I weakly lifted the side of my shirt to find a gash near my rib that was heavily bleeding.
"When did that get there?" I chuckled but instantly regretted it at the pain that shot through my body. I looked up and was met with Harrys guilty and angry eyes. "It's easy to fix up" I forced a smile then looked towards the settee to see George bleeding where his ear should have been, my eyes widened at the glistening blood and abruptly my pain became fainter.
"Are you ok George?" I asked, knowing the answer but needing to question anyway.
"Definitely a religious experience" George weakly smiled
"Yeh, I was gonna say you're looking rather holy" I replied with wide eyes, and Fred groaned.
"Please don't stay with that" He pleaded with his brother, and they both laughed.

I looked around, counting heads silently and noticed one less "where's Mad-eye?" I asked with a frown. The room fell silent and still, I had missed something in my momentary absence that I wasn't sure I wanted to know. "He's dead" Arthur Weasley stated simply with a grim expression leaning next to his injured son, I held my breath and nodded slowly.

"Mad-Eye reckoned You-Know-Who would expect the real Harry to be with the most skilled Auror. He knew he'd be in the most danger" Lupin explained, and although it was expected that not all of us would make it out, it was difficult to process.
"That's why he went alone" I verbalised with appreciation "Mundungus?" I questioned, looking back up at Lupin.
"One look at you You-Know-Who, and he disappeared" The rugged man explained with a tensed jaw, I hummed in response.

"Come on dear, how about I fix you up" Mrs Weasely suggested, changing the conversation, resting her hand on my shoulder.
"Thank you, Mrs Weasley, that would be amazing" I gratefully accepted realising that my shirt was soaked with my own blood.
"You probably don't want this back" I smiled apologetically at Harry, and he shook his head with a smirk. "Thought not" I sighed following Mrs Weasley to her kitchen.
